Rang asking for my wife. Said they were doing a "customer satisfaction survey" on behalf of one of her service providers. I repeatedly asked what company the caller worked for & who is the service provider; she said that she could only give such information to the named person because of the Data Protection Act! I refused to pass her over to my wife unless I could tell her who was calling . . .

Data Protection Act or not, isn't it common courtesy to identify yourself when the number you have called is answered? As far as I'm concerned anyone who refuses to do that will not be regarded as a legitimate caller.

It's about time calls like this were subject to TPS regulations; I don't care what they claim to be doing, they are just nuisance calls.

Just called me at 12.10pm on a Sunday.....very annoying.  Didn't answer because I knew I'd be rude to them.  Like someone else said, no genuine company would be calling on a Sunday, and I have better things to do than answer their pointless questions.  It also seems to have been a waste of time registering with TPS and having an unlisted phone number as all the crazies still seem to call........annoying when we can't enjoy a peaceful Sunday in our own homes without these idiots pestering us!

i never answer these types of calls as more than likely they are just canvasing for telephone numbers that actually pick up, which they can then sell-on to other canvasing companies who pay more for lists of 'reliable' numbers, who of course then sell them all on again to some other company etc etc ad-infinitum!!! so even if you're able to 'block' calls from any particular number and/or from the last number that called, if you pick up you're still going to get increasing amounts of calls from 'other' new numbers that will also have to be blocked! it never ends!!!!

have personally only found one working solution to all this, and that's to have an answering machine on permanently and to screen all calls that come in with free 'caller display', picking up straight away if i recognise the caller, or calling them back if they leave a message and i want to speak to them (the council and utility companies will usually leave a message, so at least you know who they are before returning their call)

which is still actually a damn nuisance and inconvenience! but what else can you do??? even so, i still get around 5 or 6 unknown calls per week at all times of the day and night, including sundays! but at least i don't have to get hopping mad with anyone again and again and again until it eventually spoils my day!

there really should be a law passed about all this whereby huge fines are imposed from breaching people's privacy who did not OPT-IN for them! as i really don't believe 'anyone' actually either likes or wants these calls and/or ever receives any personal benefit from them whatsoever!

the very fact that ofcom and all the various telephone companies 'offer' some kind of screening systems that you have to PAY FOR! already 'attests and confirms' to people being unduly 'harassed' plus the need to do something about it, and as such 'already' proves the case (of willful harassment) that these 'other' companies are managing to get-around without restriction!

incidentally... does anyone even 'realise' that this particular number and the complaints on here about it, actually dates back to 2008?? good grief!

    its enough
had over the last days many calls from them, they just don't give up, they say they are calling on behalf of a consumer customer service, when I asked which one, they did not want to say and said that I would have to identify myself first. I told them if you don't tell me for which service this allegedly is, I don't tell you who I am.

They just rang me (landline) but I have caller display and don't pick up when I don't recognise the number. I think this number has come up before a few times.  How come they are allowed to ring when my phone number has been registered with Telephone Preference Service for years.  Actually I might answer next time and give them a load of misleading information for fun, put them on hold while I go to the toilet etc...and then finally ask the caller if they are proud to have a job harassing people...

Registering with TPS does NOT stop calls.  Reputable UK sales companies obey TPS rules and do not 'phone registered numbers.  Not so reputable companies do not obey the rules and if you receive a call from one of them you have to report it to TPS.  If you don't report it TPS don't know you have been 'phoned.  They don't monitor the 'phones.  Having said all that TPS does not cover Market Research calls anyway.  If you want to stop them go the the company website and use the "Contact Us" facility.  Tell them to remove your details from ALL their data bases for ALL their companies. This works.

    Got the hump
    Just phoned.
I've reached the point where I don't answer the phone now- it's that bad. These unsolicited calls should be made illegal by law.
Where are the authorities to stop this incessant bombardment?

I had a call from this number today told the caller they shouldn't be ringing as I was on TPS she replied saying it didn't appply to companies doing market research which I doubt, told her I wasn't interested but will be reporting it to TPS

Had another call from this number (several now). However, thanks to my new call blocker (best £40 I ever spent), I have black-listed them and they won't get through again.
I can recommend getting a call-blocker like this (I'm probably not supposed to name it - there are a few types available) Being able to re-claim my phone line and having considerably less annoyance each day from these calls has been worth the purchase price already.
Good luck fending them off, fellow sufferers.
