As people have said this number belongs to MORI - In my experence they are a genuine Market Research organisation and dont try to sell you stuff - I get calls from them on and off and when the number comes up on Caller Display I decidee if I can be bothered with it or not - They are harmless enough though!

I answered and this is a market research company, i told them to remove my details from their database or I would take action to stop them, last call was last thursday and so far nothing since and I was getting them daily. Said they were called ipsos and were conducting a survey on what i spend my leisure time doing.

This is Ipsos Mori.  they conduct research and surveys about literally everything.  It is very hard to make them go away.  You're not obliged to answer any of their questions or take part in their surveys but it wouldn't do any harm.  They are legit.

    > "you`d be eating the curb."

Says the little man at the other side of his computer keyboard. Big words and little else.

    > The numbers are generated randomly. Just because they are available or not in a directory doesn't mean a computer can't generate one. 905-698-3214 --- I generated a North American number with my head, its quite possible that number is unlisted or not in a directory. YES number can be saved for future calls backs with a name. The machine that does this is called a computer, what a wonderful world we live in isn`t it?

Of course you can generate phone numbers randomly - but I'll put this bit in BLOCK CAPS since you seem to be so chronically hard-of-understanding - HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO PUT THE NAME OF THE SUBSCRIBER TO YOUR 'RANDOMLY' GENERATED PHONE NUMBER WHEN THEY ARE EX-DIRECTORY, YOU COMPLETE AND UTTER [***]?

Anyway, it would appear that my email did the trick, so I'll not waste any more time trying to reason with the sort of slack-jawed mouth-breather that's destined to spend the rest of his useless life trying to make some sort of a life working in a succession of ever-more desperate call centre jobs. Good luck with that.

Oh, and I couldn't let this gem pass without comment:

    > Ipsos is worth more money then your whole 5 square foot country so good luck fighting them.

This from a resident of the inbred capital of the world. ROFL.

Been called by this number several times. Once at 20:40! Having worked in marketing I know it is illegal to call people after 19:30 for marketing reasons.

I have received about 6 calls from this number over the last few days. They seem to be calling me in the evenings so far. The last time they called, I picked my handset up to see who it was, but remained silent. Nobody said anything on the other end, then, after a second they hung-up. I will just hope that has worked.

This number just rang my ex-directory landline number!  Woman asked my husband for information about his workplace!  She said it was to do with health and safety.  My husband just said his work was private and he wouldn't divulge any info - how stupid do these companies think people are?  It's now 20:15 so technically they just made an illegal marketing call (saw comment above from someone who worked in market research).  I'm registered with the BT phone preference service so don't usually get any cold calls.  I hate this invasion of privacy!  Will monitor and report to BT if becomes a nuisance.
