Stupidly I picked up the phone the first time they rang me a few weeks back, it was a woman wanting to know if I had taken the National Student Survey, I just said yes even though I hadn't and have no intention of doing so. Been pestered to death by these lot ever since with daily phone calls which I just reject...they haven't got the hint yet have they?!

Ipsos MORI has one of the largest custom built, in-house telephone operations in the UK. We conducted almost 1 million interviews in 2008 alone from our CATI (computer assisted telephone interviewing) call centres operating out of London, Edinburgh and Lowestoft. Using CATI increases the accuracy and comparability of data as it allows complex questionnaires to be programmed and, by linking CATI to dialers, enables significant increases in the speed and efficiency of data collected. The dialler technology also allows us to offer full voice recording and remote monitoring of interviews.

The London site specialises in centralised, international data collection and has particular expertise in delivering complex, business-to-business projects across a wide range of markets. The Ipsos Group has more than 2,000 CATI stations around the world and Ipsos MORI regularly links in with our North American and Asian call centres to provide clients with round-the-clock global coverage.

These call could be VERY SERIOUS organised criminals grooming for movement/personal information.

We have received calls from two traceable numbers and then the rest have been withheld numbers - two men.

We suspect that the basic information for "targets" (those that receive the calls) are based on websites like Brittany Ferries, travel sites, etc who freely send open email unencrypted booking confirmation details that can be hacked and forwarded for use.  Burglaries, drugs trafficking (particularly on the Plymouth/Santander route), people trafficking, bank/credit card hacking etc.  THIS IS A VAST WORLD AND CAN/WILL EFFECT YOU.

Now that BT (British Telecom) have moved their call services abroad - security is reduced/unmonitored.  Criminal gangs could be paying staff for information on "targets".  If you change your phone number - it doesn't make any difference - the new number will be passed on.

The Police ARE NOT interested - you are on your own.  We offer no advice as we are still being targeted and don't know how to resolve the problem

Another survey in which I had to tell my wife who answered to stop giving him information and hang up.
I've been registered with TPS for years and am also on the first page of this thread complaining about this same company in 2008, so not much changes.

Hi everyone i know how fustrating unsolicited phone calls are. But unfortunatly there is no federal law in place to stop market research companies such as Facts International Ltd & ipsos mori from calling residential landlines even if you are registered on the TPS LIST (telephone preference list) the tps service can only stop sales calls and not independant market research companies. If you are a registered trading buissness and you are recieving multiple MR calls i would suggest that the next time they phone you be polite to the telephone agent and politely ask them to take your telephone number off of there cati system. The computer systems market research companies use are RDD systems (random digit dialing) this is an auto-generated computer telephone device that literally makes up random numbers until it creates a real dialiable number, then it begins to dial out the self generated telephone number. Its a bit like a cryptograph cypher device. This often results in the telephone agent not even know who or what company the computer is about to dial out to. This results in fustration for both the market research telephone agent and the unsuspected person on the other end of the recieved call. This often leaves the general public feeling cautious and weary as the company is asking them for details but doesnt even know the recievers name. Market research companies are legitimate and trustworthy companies. They just usually call us at the most unappropriate times. Which is usually always lol

I got a phonecall from this number a few weeks ago saying he was part of the National Student Survey which seemed strange. I told him I'd already completed it online but he said the internet survey wasn't working and would i mind doing it again over the phone. To which my reply was Yes I do mind! Since then I've had 3 missed calls from the same number. Must be just a scam to get personal information.

Me too. I answered the phone a few weeks ago. I had already done the survey so I don't know what they're on about and I refused to do it again over the phone. Luckily i've missed all their phone calls since.

I got a call from this number last Sat at around 6pm, they said they were calling from the National Student Survey as well!! I told them that I didn't have time to do the survey over the phone and have been getting calls from them every other day. I don't answer it as the number comes up "no caller info" on my caller ID. The last time was there now at 7.45pm. SO annoying.

Just had another call from the 2088618682 number, but I did not know that until I did a 1471 to see who got my 'permanently switched on' answerphone and left no message! They are not the only persistent caller I get, unfortunately the others are clever enough to block theirs from 1471. All I can say folks, is buy an answerphone, and tell your friends to leave a message, as you could well be listening in to see if they are calling you instead of these pests!

Just been called by this number today at 18:40.  Didn't answer it. No answer phone message left.  Like others I've typed the number into Google and arrived at this site.  I guess i'll be getting more calls from them soon!
