+1 is North America/Canada. MORI has a large centre in Ottowa which assists with the UK based surveys when demand is high - presumably they route it through the Harrow call centre (which the rest of the number is for), so I would suggest it probably isn't a move to circumvent any call barring. As has been noted above, if you are on the preference service, you still get these calls.

Just sent these people an email. Apparently they should stop calling within 24 hours.

    All info is on www.ipos-mori.com/contactus/approachedbyus.aspx

I've read alot of the previous comments about calls from this number. The one about calls from this number allowing all future calls made from your line to be "tapped" by the caller was particularly funny.

As with most people here I hate getting calls of this nature, I'm registered with TPS, and I'm ex-directory. However it's pretty clear TPS registration isn't relevant to this type of call - and neither it seems is being ex-directory.

They have been calling me at various times of the day - weekends, evening, etc, for the last couple of weeks and I have ignored all the calls.

The main problem I have is the lack of an easy "opt out" option (yes, I know we shouldn't get into the position of having to opt-out, but that's life I guess) - the solution is pretty simple - they should modify their calling system so it DOES leave a message with clear details about what the purpose of the call was, who they are, and how you opt out.  In a similar fashion if you call back the number there should be an automated system allowing you to opt out easily.

Regulations need updated to mandate a system such as I describe above - therefore it would be much easier to take action/ban/block a company who didn't do it this way.

Finally the chargeable "call barring" functions offered by the telephone companies should be made FREE - regulators/telecoms companies/market research companies are forgetting that WE PAY for the privilege of having a telephone to be able to receive these calls in the first place so WE should be in the driving seat as far as choosing how our service is used/abused.

Too many previous posts to read them all, so sorry for repeating anything.

    MORI say this:

"Q - My telephone number is registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and / or BT Privacy service to stop cold calls so why are you calling me?

A - ...There are no legal or regulatory requirements to filter unsolicited calls made for research purposes against the TPS. Our call to your telephone number was NOT intended to sell, market or provide any details for any goods or services in any way. Our call would have been made to request your participation in a genuine research study..."

However, they also explain the 'opt out':

"Q - You called me recently and I have further questions or a complaint regarding that contact or would like to prevent further calls to my telephone number.

A - If we have contacted you recently, and you have any specific questions or complaints regarding our telephone contact with you please contact our Telephone Requests Section on telephone@ipsos-mori.com. This email address can also be used to request that we cease any further future calls to your telephone number..."

Both of the above snippets are edited for readability only.

They're still scum for interupting Start Trek Voyager.

I never got advertising calls, til v recently.  Only after I entered a few competitions online... GMTV and Take a Break, etc  entering my phone number, BUT I did tick the box that says my info will not be passed on to third parties.  Since then, had four calls from this 0208 8618682.

Mori is a market research orginisation and as such they are bound by the MRS (Market research society) Code of conduct. The industry is strictly regulated so there are rules as to what they can and cannot do. See MRS website for details.
Market research is not covered by the TPS which only blocks sales and marketing calls but if you refuse to take part in their survey they are NOT allowed to call you again.
If they persist in trying to contact you, you can report them to the MRS at their website or on this number 0500 369 999, make a note of the times they called you and if the MRS find a breach of the MRS code of conduct they will take action.
When they call you next time, tell them (again) that you do not wish to take part in their research and that you are reporting them to the MRS and they will probably leave you well alone.

Just a note that this is not a scam. It's legitimate Market Research. And IPSOS will PAY you for it if you're registered with them.

I am a member of their website and take part in online reasearch polls over the internet. I have been doing this with various companies for 8 months and have made £500 in amazon vouchers and cheques.

I recently input my number and this number called me. It was to arrange to send me a touch screen PDA which i will in for 1 week and then they pay me £30.

I've never had any spam e-mails, phone calls or mail since taking part in these online surveys. There are plenty of them that are scams, but this is legitimate.

I can't speak for those who have not resgistered and why they get called so much.
But i take part in research while i'm at work...so i'm getting paid to get paid some more. Great!!!

Just had a call from some dude calling from 000442088618682 - when you sanitise the number to 02088618682 it gives you a hit for IPSOS MORI - who conduct research polls.

I explained that I didn't want to take the call, I asked where he got the number from.  He said the computer dialled it randomly at which point I told him that I subscribed to TPS and various other services to filter out unwanted calls.  He pointed out that TPS was supposed to stop cold calling sales calls and as his was for market research it was allowed by the system!!

SORRY - not in my book!!  An unwanted, unwarranted, unsolicited phonecall to my ex-directory phone is NOT mitigated by it coming from a service that appears to be able to bypass the safeguards I have set up.

And no thank you Mr Ian Douglas of Ipsos Mori I do not wish to talk to you about Ipsos Mori

I have just recieved a call linked to the National Student Survey. We are uncouraged by uni to complete this as the university itself recieves £500 for high response rate and must obtain 50% response to have their data used within the survey. Obviously, this looks bad for them if they do not achieve this.

But why would market research become involved? They asked the scripted questions but i hope my answers count toward the offical survey after taking up my time!

Called me on an old mobile - they must be randomly dialing out, and must be expensive for them.
Said they were market research for television. Said I wasn't interested. They asked if I knew of anyone who would. Said no.  They asked why I didn't want to take part.  Hung up.
Come on - take no for an answer. Stop wasting both our time.
