The same happened to me last night. I am here in Sydney and the phone comes to my prepaid aussie mobil. No one has this number, except my parents. And they won´t phone me at 01.00 am!

I also got call from this number today but i didnot call back as I read comments from you all.

I live in Sydney. And I've received 11 missed calls from this no. !!!!

I also get a call from this number at different hours of the day, ring it back and it's a fax tone.

Well ,to answer all of your question -WHO CALL ? - simply it's international call from your friends or family . But instead of their own number , Optus mobile shows 02 8209 4700 .
That's it. So easy . I don't know why you guys can't figure out who made those "annoying" calls??

Just got this call from this, i live in Western Australia, they have phoned 2 times this morning, Does anyone know ho it is calling? I was shocked when i saw that there was alot of poeple who have had the same problem.

I had a missed call on my mobile from this number for the first time this morning at 6:02am, lucky I had my phone on silent so I didnt realise it was ringing. I also had a number of missed calls from a friend over in the UK (mobile). I doubt they are linked as I have had missed calls from my friend over in the UK before and have never had this number show up so im stumped as to who it is and why they would be trying to call/fax me something at that time (to my mobile)?

I too live in Melbourne, Australia and looking at the number it seems to be a NSW one.

I tried calling it back a few minutes ago from another phone other than my mobile and got a fax tone sound.

A little annoying but hopefully it doesnt continue and if it does, God help those responsible.

Guys - I'm from Germany and this [***] rang me up on my German phone! I'm at the moment in Melbourne and have absolutely no idea how this dirty abo got my mobile number!

I got a call from a company we are currently working in in India. I think it's a intermediary switch to route the call. I don't think calling the number back will work.

It took a while for the person on the other end to connect after I answered.

I just missed a call from this number (I'm also in Melbourne Australia). Then had a voice mail msesage on my work phone from a friend in Canada who'd tried to call me on my mobile. Seems pretty strong evidence that (for some reason) an international call sometimes comes through from this number. Perhaps it's the caling card thing mentioned above. I know my friend in Canada has one.

Anyway, it's not necessarily a telemarketer or prank.

Just received a call, i live in western australia, for what is said above, i dont belive its a Friend overseas as i dnt know anyone overseas, ow and im not with Optus im with telstra... so all the above is highly unlikley..... and they seem to call the same state at curtain times... have no idea what going on there, but its the 1st call i have received so by what you guys saying i should expect more... haha GREAT!!!!

I missed this number at 20:10. Because I am a student from overseas and dont know anyfriends would ring my cell phone by using their land phone (too expensive). so I check online, as everyone said above, this number may calling from some fraud company. they may charge us $1 per second??? who knows.....but luckily i didn't received in the early morning, thanks god...btw, i am using vodafone

Wow, I wasn't expecting to find so many similar stories when I decided to google the mystery number that has suddenly started calling my mobile at random times over the last week or so!

I live in the UK and this is a UK mobile that I brought to Oz with me. I use O2 in the UK and here I'm using Telstra.

I only arrived in Oz last Monday (1 Dec) and the calls started on the first night, at seriously antisocial times in the morning. It's only happened a few times that I know about, but I've started putting my phone on silent when I go to bed, just in case, so it might have happened more often.

Am not sure yet what the deal is as I haven't yet answered when this mystery number has rung, assuming that if it is important whoever is calling will leave a voicemail message. So far no one has.

All very mysterious and annoying...

also got two calls from this number today, missed them b/c in a meeting. am in melbourne, australia and no message left. didn't bother calling back b/c they didn't leave a message but was curious so googled.
my mobile is on the 3 network.
now i know not to answer.
thought it was the guy i went on a date with the other day :P

Same as above. Got a Fax tone when I tried it, then googled the prick and found that they are annoying everyone else too.

I got a call from this number too!!! I got it around 6:30pm but I didnt answer it. Didnt recognise the number. I was about to call back but after reading a few comments above changed my mind. Thanks

same as above four or five times a day and i am getting really annoyed any way of stopping it calling my phone. is there a way of barring it? please help

That number called and I had no idea who it was, so I put it in google and found this! I didn't answer because my phone has low battery. I hope it doesn't call again!
