I got a call from this number a few mins ago. It sounds like a telemarketing company base on somewhere China or Taiwan. But I believe it is a fraud call.
Don't answered it or call back.
    It is very annoying!~

I've been receiving calls from this number since yesterday. I answered and they hung up. When I rejected the call today, they left me a voicemail without saying anything. It goes to a fax tone when I call back. I'm getting annoyed now!!!

I got a call from this number 2 days in a row, when i was able to receive the call, they guy on the other end had told me that he was from a mobile company and that my ex partner was looking/trying to get a mobile phone on a plan and that the phone was to be billed into my name as that is what my ex had told them. This guy was asking for my bank detail numbers but i refused as i did not want to be paying for a phone that was not in my name and that my ex had tried to bill me for, but i am now glad i didn't as i would of been scammed! I advise anyone not to receive any calls from this number or to give out bank details or any other sort of personal details!

Just received a call from 02-8209-4700 and I check on internet, there are a lot of comment about this number. It's so strange. Any way, I don't care, so i don't call back. Next time if this number still call me, I will call back, and hopefully the answer person is a young beautiful girl. lol

Just got three in a row from this number.

First call they hung up as I answered.

Second time they stayed on the line. Caller was female, and there was a baby crying in the background, and some music, possibly TV. Whoever she was didn't seem to speak English, as all they said was "Ehlo?" a few times before hanging up. Possibly an Indian accent, but I wouldn't want to stake much on that guess.

Third time I simply rejected the call.

An ACMA search shows the number is one of an allocation owned by Verizon Australia.

All up, I'm with the above who suggest it's someone playing silly buggers on VoIP/Skype or similar.

this number is a calling card. it uses an australian phone line to call here. my father purchases this calling card form overseas, and every now and then this number appears. if you are receiving this nunber, someone overseas is trying to contact you.

Just happened to me a few minutes ago. I am based in Perth. I didn't answer the call. On the call back it diverted to a fax number.

I missed this number at an odd time this morning, looked it up here.  Got a call again tonight and it was my girlfriend as suspected, who is overseas and out of mobile credit :) So its true that it is a calling card thing, though I'm sure plenty of people would use it for dodgy purposes because calling cards can be quite cheap.  Of course no point calling back, and as I have learnt if I don't know the number just don't bother.

A few people have mentioned that the number is when someone from overseas is calling you.  For me, this is the case.  My boyfriend is in France and calls me on his UK blackberry and that is the number that comes up on my mobile.

Yesterday my partner and I had been making inquiries about purchasing a boston terrier puppy via SimpleTrade.com.au with a seller who claimed to be NSW based, somewhere around Newcastle.

After the whole song and dance of selecting a puppy from photos, we requested identification and a phone number. At first the request was ignored, then when asked again (we were nice about it) we were told that the seller lives in a remote area and is on dial-up so cannot make calls or receive them. When pushed again for a mobile number we were told that the the woman, who went by the name of Kylie Plummer, she offered to talk to us via voice on Yahoo messenger, or would send her husband out to call me on my phone number and she would send a copy of his drivers license.

The email address used was kylie_plummer@yahoo.com.au and the drivers license was a NSW provisional in the name of Peter Andrew Hunt, of Lisarow, born in 1985. What was sus about this was that "Kylie" claimed that she had 3 kids, oldest being 22, yet her husband/patrner's ID makes him only 23...

The phonecall never came from the husband within the expected time frame, but instead last night I get 3 called from a blocked number, then ONCE from 02 8209 4700 then another from a blocked number, all evenly spaced by 1 minute. I did not answer any of them as it was 2:30am and I was asleep. The last call woke me, but I missed answering it.

We find this heavily suspect, as in one day we found many many people selling hard-to-get boutique puppies on the Simpletrade.com.au website, and all their responses had broken English, and didn't seem to make sense. In all cases it would seem too good to be true, that we could get a puppy immediately and bypass the waiting lists elsewhere, but this was the only one we nearly followed through. I think the whole thing could be a massive scam.

As many are reporting, this number could be a calling card number or an IDD number, or a skype-out number.

Interesting...got a call too in my mobile. No message left. No way someone is playing silly boggers, I also think it is a trick to get money out of people.
