Got one too but it was for the person who used to live at my house and it was HMCS Kent.  Looks like a scam to me.

The 01622 680070 number on the front never got answered.  The letter was dated 9 days earlier than when it arrived but it said the fine had to be paid 10 days after it was written.  The link to pay online at www.direct.gov.uk/payacourtfine didn't exist.  The only thing that seemed genuine was the post code to Kent Police on the front of the letter.  The 0300 790 9901 automated payment number worked but that doesn't mean anything really.

    Hi All,

I recieved the exact same letter as everyone here, after the initial shock i started to realise it looked like a scam, photocopied court logo and information sheet 'how to pay your fine'. Plain envelope (has been franked so may try to trace where it was franked). Also I have had no prior notice of the fine or any details of what i am supposed to have done!! Also it is a bit suspect wherit says 'Born:' it has my correct date of birth but does that ever appear on anything like this, it would usually say D.O.B:!!

Its clearly a nationwide scam as mine is from Lowerstoft, Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury or Mildenhall, HMCS Suffolk.

Very strange, I will also report mine to the police.

Thanks to everyone for your posts it has put my mind at rest its a scam for sure!!

    Hi

I received a letter asking for my arrest or their was a warrant out for it.

Basically, they are claiming for unpaid car tax.   I was unaware that my car tax had expired.  They towed my car and crushed it, because I could not afford to get it released.

That was the last I heard of it.  Now this letter is saying the fine is because I had no tax.  That is what the fine is for.  They issued a lot of letters but they all went to my old address.

it was from the Southampton Office.  Same number 02380 649500.   And I have to pay the fine to 03007909901

Looks like I'm gonna have to cough up on this one.

The number is legitimate. If you go to directgov website about paying your fine the official information appears as follows

"You can pay your fine by phoning 0300 790 9901 (in England) or 0300 790 9980 (for Wales). You will need to have the following information ready -

    the division
    and

    the fine account number"

I got a letter the same as this dated 6th October and turned up on 14th. Says warrent for arrest has been applied for and I have to pay £410. Really looks like a scam to me.

The letter is very badly printed and a photocopied hmcs logo. Address is a PO Box. At the top Central Enforcement team but at the bottom it says Hampshire and Isle of Wight Enforcement Team! why different.

No other details apart from pay or be arrested. No other options for paying, no form to send back. It doesn't even have my full name on it just first initial and last name! No "Born" or "D.O.B" or any other details. Also cant find any mention of the number or the place or the central enforcement team on the hmcs website.

    Must be a scam!!

    This was not a scam!!!

I have just been to the court and they do expect me to pay them £410 for apparently not sending the change of keeper form for a car I part ex'd 3 years ago.

I did send it but obviously have no proof as it was 3 years ago wasn't recorded and have heard nothing until now.

Looks like I have to pay.

Hi I just received the same letter in the post yesterday. I have called the automated service number on which I found on the website on the letter head www.cao.latestinfo.co.uk but I almost tried every option to see if I could speak to someone but couldn't speak to anyone.

I am a little confused could anyone let me know the outcome of their letters. I don't want not to pay something I should? Should I call the police to sort this out or there should be some help line where people deal with things like this.

There was a section on their website where they said I should write to the Fines Officer if I don't know what the fine is for. I sent it with special delivery and they had an actual address - could this be legit? But I sold my car last year but at least I know the new owner and he hasn't mentioned that he hasn't received the paperwork and he surely needs that for his road tax.

I really hope this is a scam.
