I've just had a call from these people. I will find out where they're calling from and they won't be so quick to call me again. I have also put a complaint through to the TPS with a link to this page

I've just just made a complaint to Ofcom. I suggest everyone else who is getting these calls does the same. It only takes a minute and could make a difference.

Don't make the same mistake as me though - make sure you UNTICK the boxes. You'll see what I mean.

I hear that the scam is that it costs loads a money to call 070 numbers, I was going to call an 070 number back on my mobile and Orange warned me it is a premium nuber

We have been getting the same calls for weeks now but the number displayed is 52302659. We quite often have 6 phones ringing at the same time (100 number DDI range) but only one ever gets connected. Over the weekend i got my wifes rape alarm out but forgot to bring it to work this morning and they called again. i told him I was busy and to call back tomorrow at the same time when i hope to give him a bit of a headache.

had same number call me 5 mins ago aswell have looked at global communications contact details and there is no such number on there i have no idea who it is thats calling but i had no voice nothing.

if u find out id love to ring them :D

Had this quite a few times now and each time the call cuts off the minute i say hello. Wish i had a whistle handy!!!!!!!!!
It is very annoying especially as I'm X directory.!!!!!!!!!

keep getting annoying phone calls from this number, when I answer there's nobody there

o7o12212212 calling several timesaday and always nobody speaks. It worries me. I have also reportyed it to Ofcom

07012212212 - phoned our ex-directory house number three times in five minutes. At 9pm!!! - We didnt answer. But we had a automated telephone message telling us to ring them back as its an emergency. Its a scam. Its a premium number so it costs £0.50p a mimute to call them. They probably call thousands of people a day, at a cost to the receiver at £0.50p a minute!! I'm no columbo but this doesnt take a genius to work out that they are a bunch of con merchant bunts!!! - ( i cannot pronounce my c's)

This number has been constantly calling and not talking, more annoyingly this has twice interupted company conference calls by plaguing lines constantly calling and never talking

I've now started having this number turn up on my phone, wasn't sure if it was a mobile number at first thought one of my friends might have gotten a new phone then I decided to do a web search using the number on the phone, low and behold I find a forum thread about it. Why isn't an official complaints body doing anything about this!

Never phone an 070 number back as these cost 50p per minute from BT landlines and alot more from mobiles. Scammers use these numbers and hope that you ring them back so they make money out of the call.

The number 07012212212 is a part of the number allocation for 'Skymarket Ltd' (http://www.skymarket.co.uk/) who appear to be an ISP.

But....

070xxx numbers are 'personal numbers', that is the number is an alias for a real world telephone number - there is no handset with the telephone number '07012212212'. This means that whoever is making the calls is specifically hiding their real caller ID and are explictly forcing the caller ID '07012212212' to be shown.

Given that:

1 - The comments above seem to imply that calls are from Asian call centres

2 - Skymarket don't appear to be in the call centre business

3 - Calls are being made to people on the TPS list

it is likely that these calls are being delivered to the UK from abroad with false caller ID information.

Essentially, what this means is that there's completely nothing you can do about receiving these calls.

If you don't want to speak to these people, just hang up on them - you don't have to be polite, after all it's not as though they're respecting your time/wishes. However, the best thing you can do is to string these people along - take as much of their time up as possible. If you can get them to the point where they send something to you in the post, you've cost them a few quid (and you've now got some information you can pass to the TPS people which stands a better chance of getting them shut down).

Further to Lee's comment above, please don't post pricing information unless you've checked it first.

070 numbers are charged from 5p/min to 50p/min depending on the tariff associated with that particular number. In the case of 07012212212, the tariff band is 'j' which BT charge 32p/min (at standard rates).

Scammers don't typically use 070 numbers as the return is very low (after carrier charges, they'd be lucky to walk away with 20p/min on a 50p/min number). This simply isn't enough to make using these numbers viable - especially considering that they've got to pay the person who answers the call  (or they could automate it, but call duration is likely to be much lower). Instead, scammers usually use 09 numbers which can be charged at up to £1.50/min.

I had a phone call from this number 2 days ago but as I wasn't at home the machine picked it up. Of course, there was no message.

Another call from this number to my landline.  This time Raj claiming to be call from colloquial (sp) telecom, part of the 3g network.  As this call is an information service, they appear to be skirting the borders of TPS.  My best advice is ignore all cold calls.  If I want to buy a product or service, I'll initiate the contact.

An Asian (Indian) rang us today...

"...because you pay your bills on time we have a new free mobile phone for you...   ...can I have your name and address..."

But you've got it already, we pay our bills on time right?

"...well Sir we only have your number..."

So the first bit was [***] then?

"...all you have to do is pay £25... but not now..."

We hung up.

Every day this week this number has been showing up on my call log.  Like many others here I'm ex-directory and subscribe to TPS.  

I've also raised this with ofcom.  I too would like to know why as of yet no action has been taken against this outfit.

Judging by the number of us posting here and the date the thread starts these irritating prats are in it for the long haul.

I have had this caller 07012212212 call twice in the last 2 days and several times to my elderly parents whilst I was on holiday last week.  I did 1471 and as I have a lot of contacts who have mobile phones - pressed 3 to connect however the line goes dead - checked my address book then looked online and saw this long list!
