Have had 2 calls today from this number.  Thought like a few others it was a friends mobile.  We too are ex-direct and on the phone preference service. When you call it back you are told you have not dialled correctly

I have had this number call me a few minutes ago - but as usual I just ignored it, for the fact is that two days ago I had TEN calls in one day from them (all picked up by the answering machine, as I screen all my calls).  They are silent calls and I have to say they unnerve me a little.

I finally relented yesterday out of idle curiosity and called them back.  I was entertained by a charming little tune for a minute before I got cold feet and hung up, ever fearful of a large phone bill!  They called me again twice last night, but just the once today, so maybe they are getting bored with being ignored.

Asian man said he was from Virgin. I asked him where he got my number and said the Virgin management gave it to him. I asked him the number he was calling from and he recited my own number back to me.  Then he called me a mad man and said I should visit a psychiatrist! At that point I said that I had recorded the call and he rang off.

I've simply copied and pasted Nick Barnes' post from above. It is sound advice, and we should all not only string these ar5eholes along as much as possible, but we should be complaining to OfCom and making them do some work for a change.

the best thing you can do is to string these people along - take as much of their time up as possible.

If you can get them to the point where they send something to you in the post, you've cost them a few quid (and you've now got some information you can pass to the TPS people which stands a better chance of getting them shut down).

I 1471'd this number last night after I received a silent call from it,

I don't know if anyone seen the advert ages ago where a woman answers the phone and says your call IS important to me, please can you hold the line for a second then switches on some tune for a "thingie", or words to that effect.  I have just had a call from this number and done this, the swearing at the other end was priceless!!!

I agree that we should all try and piss them off as much as they piss us off.

From what ive heard its all automatic so when we answer the phone it will start ringing on their end and then they talk their [***]. thats obviously the reason for the silence at the beginning of the call. So they're obviously sat waiting for calls. Now there are loads of sites online which allow you to send free text messages and land lines now accept text messages so lets all spam them out with text messages. If we all send a few they will be bombarded with them and won't have time to call us up with shyte. I'd like to be able to get them shut down but I don't reckon its gonna happen. so I'm just gonna have some fun at their expense.

Just had a call from this number, ex-dir so asked to speak to a manager as 1st asian man said "we got it from a list"
2nd asian man named george said that it was from an internet list, when asked him to clarify more he said i was wasting his time and put phone down on me!

Oh, and also, they firstly asked me if i had a mobile phone number?

The number called me and then MY PHONE was "disabled" as the call didnt disconnect.
They are calling everyday and i am TPS too!

I was unable to make a call for at least 15minutes.
Someone should shut the number down.
I have even asked them to remove my number but it still keeps calling me.

This number called and an asian sounding woman said "global telecom". I said, "I'm TPS and the second word's off"

These muppets keep ringing, and at the most awkward times!!! I never answer - I just let my voicemail take the call, but they never leave a message, so it must not be THAT urgent!! It's beginning to get annoying now though!

Hmm same number, no message, and cannot return the call. I`m on TPS but recently have had cold calling msgs for the first time in 5 years. Some company has obviously passed my ex dir number on. BTW Ofcom regulations state that the caller MUST leave a message or say who they are on 1471 , if they dont they are in breach of the law :-)

Took this from an american version of this website , looks like these are scammers now targetting the UK. So take care .

"I was just called from Bismarck, ND from phone number 701-221-2212 from a man who said his name was Richard Johnson.  He claimed to be the National Medical Office, a department of Health & Human Services.  They tried to sell me a Medical Discount Card.  The man claimed that I needed to give him my bank account name, routing number, and account number in order to verify that I was the correct person and that in 7 - 14 business days I would receive my card, they would call me back, and I would authorize a $199.95 bank to bank transaction as a one-time/life-time processing fee.  They gave me www.hhs.gov as proof that they were with the government.  I did not give them any of my bank information, and repeatedly told him that I knew they were scam's because I've also been called from that same number with an IRS refund scam and a car warranty expired scam, all wanting my bank info.  Don't fall for it at all!

Asian callers seem to be identified in a majority of cases , although accents are sometimes easy to mistake. Even if they were from Antartica they should be  ashamed of themselves ( My fiancee is Bengali )

Someone on this number called and left no messages . On ringing back, it was dead or cut off.
