Just had three of these in rapid succession to my landline; the caller is a mobile number asking me to call back. I am waiting for bad news from a hospital about a close relative; so rather unsettling.

I thought this was a scam but I have checked it with BT and its simply someone trying to text you ( it creates this message when your phone is not as sophisticated as the phone texting you) It isn't a scam.

Recieving repeated calls from the dreaded 066 number between two and three am. Been going on for days now. Dont think its a scam. Think its a genuine case of text sent to landline and delivered repeatedly by some computer that then leaves a trace to the 066 number. Think the repetition and timing of the calls are simply the result of some computer error. Still annoying tho!

Got an otherwise empty voicemail asking I return a call to 07953 966066, my business partner got one that sounded similar around the same time too. The only way this could have happened is if via someone crawling our website. This must be automated too as my phone number is currently commented out so real people wouldn't see it, only particularly dim bots.

This has all the hallmarks of a scam. I would never just call back a number from an automated message that doesn't (at least) leave a name but notwithstanding this I still think it's entirely appropriate to hunt these people down and burn them at a stake. Pah!

October 27th    9.00pm   First call received via 1571 service.   My wife closed phone down after listening to some filth massage, then being given a set of options some of which were to call 07953966066 to continue receiving the calls and another one to stop any further calls.
Called police approx 9.20pm to report the call. Given a Log ref.
Advised to contact BT to have the offending number blocked.

October 27th      9.25pm made call to BT in order to have the offensive messages stopped.   Advised by a Ms S of BT that they were unable to block this type of call as it came from a T-Mobile platform. It was then suggested that we call the 079 number and choose the option to cancel.

I tried to explained that I did not wish to phone that number and become part of the filth game someone is perpetrating, also I could not see why I should have to call, what could be a premium line number and be charged an exorbitant rate for having to call a number that I really did not wish to call; also how am I to know that by dialling that number, that my home telephone number is not being added to some company’s data base, for future use?

Think at this stage I called the police once more to advise progress with BT.  Advised by police to contact police once more should we receive any more offensive calls.

November 1st   12.09pm another obscene call.  Phoned police as requested, advised to contact BT and request that the calling number be blocked.

Call made to BT, had discussion with Mr J of BT. He told me there was nothing they could do as the calls are generated via a T-Mobile platform. I replied by saying I thought it rather strange that as T-Mobile were using some of the BT equipment to get through to my number why were they unable to block it. The only suggestion he came up with was phone the 0795 number to cancel, or call their BT Nuisance Call Department on 0800 411 422.  I phoned their nuisance department on Monday November 2nd at 9.20am.  At first I spoke with Ms M, who gave me the same answers as MrJ. I requested to speak to a manager; the manager’s name was Ms A.

This lady went through more or less the same rhetoric with no positive outcome other than to call the 079 number or call the T-Mobile customer service on 0845 412 5000.  This number turned out to be an automated call system offering no help with my concerns.  Ms A, from BT, did say, however, that she did understand what I was saying and did know where I was coming from. Some action would have been more appropriate.

November 2nd.        Call made to police, police to visit our home at 6.30pm

My wife is now afraid to answer the phone, simply because a system is allowing obscene voice texts calls to be made by anyone to anyone using equipment owned or operated by T-Mobile and BT and no one, apparently, has an interest in preventing this, even when it’s reported to them..

We could of course, as everyone is suggesting, take the easy option and call the 079 number and, hopefully, prevent any further calls being made to our number, but this will not prevent other innocent people becoming victims to this disgusting and unwarranted scam.
Until BT and T-Mobile and perhaps others understand this, this repellent and unwanted form of communication will continue. We will now be conacting Ofcom.

Have also received a blank txt msg from 07953966066.  This is for Alan and others who have received a number of disturbing msg from this number.

To be fair to BT they are simply transmitting on a call originating elsewhere and are probably legally obliged to not block any calls – for competition reasons as much as anything.

Have you tried contacting T-Mobil – as they appear to be the source?  It is possible they are being used as a relay and not no in fact the source either.  I might also suggest that you contact your local MP.  Also you should contact the telecoms regulators and register a complaint with them – they “organize” this mess.  The more complaints they get the more likely that something will get done in say around 10 yrs or so – they don’t move very fast.

Two scenarios seem possible.  1, 07953966066 is the mobile no of the perpetrator(s). 2, 07953966066 is a number owned by T-Mobile for a service to their customers that automatically translates txt msg to voice for calls to landlines.  Unfortunately, either way if this number is closed down the perpetrator or T-Mobile can buy a new number for a couple of quid and continue their operation next day.  Chances of anyone being prosecuted would appear to be vanishing small – after all this thread has been ongoing for nearly year and zero action appears to have been taken by any of the main players.

If this sort of call is causing you major problems a number options come to mind:

1, Get a hand set with answerphone and Call ID display.  Add your friend’s numbers.  If any unrecognized number, or 07953966066 etc calls let the answerphone handle the call.  Like mobiles you can also get them with different ringtones for you friends. This will obviously cost you.

2, Vote with your feet cancel your landline simply use you’re mobile from now on. This way if the perpetrator continues to call they will have to pay a lot more to hassle you and may give up much sooner.  Also if you need to change your number it shouldn’t cost too much. This will save you your landline rental but cost you more for outgoing calls and more for your friends to call you.

3, Try switching your landline number to one which charges a high premium to mobiles (but not landlines) – eg 0800 of 0808.  Or one which charges a high premium to mobiles and a smaller premium to landlines eg 0845 or 0870.  This will probably cost you in the short term.

    I hope this helps

Received two calls for this number on 13.11.09 advising of a snowball fight 2009!- I now removed the landline at night. Perhaps we should get the number of the MD at T- Mobile and do the same, things may happen.
