- Validator replies to AnonymousThis is DEFINATELY Barclays, I was called today with a survey about my business manager, no account details were asked for, the operator knew my managers details and the account type I run.
- dI called Barclays afterwards & she said it was their marketing team and all they should ask is last 2 letters of mothers maiden name & dob. Guy I spoke to from this number was v nice, had all my account details & could tell me stuff about my payments in & out. Didn't worry until I read this, but feel fine about it.
- Caller: barclays
- Call type: Telemarketer
- tmpthis number has called me twice in last 24 hours (Jan 2011)and hangs up when I answer
- Caller: 08000852652
- RowlI get 2 calls every day from this number and not and will not give details and the man got quite funny with me. I then e-mailed barclays complaints where they have to write back to you not e-mail. If it is barclays i wonder how they will feel with everyone e-mailing there complaints department and they get harrased and have to post you a letter back.
- Bob| 2 repliesCalled me and hung up as soon as i answered!
- Caller: unknown
- mark replies to Bob| 1 replyHi, i work for barclays, the calls you are getting are genuine, usally a follow up when you have just opened an account.
The reason for the hang ups is that they use an auto-dailer that ques calls for the advisor, if they are very busy so there is no available advisor in time it tries to drop the call before you are connected, unfortunatly some times the timing is off resulting in a "Dead Call".
Nothing to worry about just a little anoying sometimes, - islewthemidlandbank replies to markright, ive had my mobile number for 16 years (so no chance it could be someone else they are looking for), and have NEVER so much as set foot inside barclays and certainly dont have a barclays account, so whats the crack?
- Steve ChandlerI got a call from this number wanting to check details. Said I needed verification I was speaking to Barclays so he said he had the last 4 digits of my card .. but they were wrong. Clearly a scam though very convincingly done as it wasn't the usual number withheld and the caller suggested I went into my Barclays branch to check they had the right details on their system
- Blackegg13This number is going straight to my block list. Hate SPAM!!!
- Caller: ?
- rajWho is calling me ?? Is it a fraud call?? I am surprise to hear people some say they want to give me money..................
- TomI had a call from this number, so i called barclays fraud hotline, they confirmed it was a real barclays call... You cant be too carefull though,,,,, NEVER give out info....
- Caller: Barclays Marketing Call
- Call type: Telemarketer
- The AuditorCallers from this number generally ask for personal security information such as D.O.B. and mothers maiden name or letters from this.
They may offer to prove its Barclays by giving part or all of your debit or credit card no. This is quite easy to get together with your name eg from a credit card slip or an order for goods by mail order through a call centre (which would probably also give address phone no and possibly email address). If they havent already got it your name (and address or just the town where you shop) can then be used to get your phone number
If you give out the information you are opening up yourself up to fraud or other problems associated with identity theft.
Perhaps its a scam by Santander or HSBC to convince you Barclays have weak security systems. - ex-Barclays employeeIt really is Barclays, trust me, I've been on the dialling end of the phone...
The most threatening thing they're trying to do is sell you a load of their rubbish products, from savings, to insurance, to credit cards.
Only useful if you DON'T shop around for yourself.
I wouldn't worry about giving out 'personal' details, the staff have full access to your accounts (numbers, balances, etc.), but as outbound (rather than inbound) advisers, they can't actually DO anything with your accounts, apart from open up savings accounts (with poor interest), or make basic transfers from one of YOUR OWN accounts to another.
No money could be removed from your possession, no matter how hard they tried (also bear in mind that all employees are credit checked and criminal background checked).
These are NOT fraud calls, however, they ARE sales calls, 100% flog, flog, flog.
If you object to sales calls, then let the caller know. Pretty much everyone hates working in the outbound department, are normally doing it as a stopgap after redundancy, and would genuinely like to hear your (polite) views as to how this 'service' is NOT working.
One part of the outbound team was until recently responsible for booking appointments with Barclays Financial Planning, for savings, investment & insurance advice.
BUT...
1,000 BFP advisers (fully qualified, wholly professional SALESPERSONS) have just been made redundant! - says it all, really!- Caller: Barclays
- Call type: Telemarketer
- ReueCalled today by this number. Guy on the end sounded very friendly but asked for my DoB. I told him I wasnt prepared to give this as he had called me. He said it was jsut for account protection and that he wouldnt be asking for any other details etc. Told him I still wasnt prepared to give my DoB over the phone to someone who had called me.
I highly suspect this was a legit call from Barclays, however they cant expect their customers to give out personal details over the phone to an unknown number.- Caller: Barclays
- Call type: Survey
- RobertAre these guys Barclays or not? Gave my DOB and mother's maiden name.. If it's a fraud.. What can they do with that info? Thanks
- Big GHad a call at 12.47 today and they claimed to be Barclays. However, after the number was Googled our old friend at UPS came up. So I have left an E-mail with Barclays and am waiting for a reply. Simply, even if the call is genuinely from Barclays, refuse to discuss anything with them. What can't be spoken about in your local branch, and face to face? This is what I've told Barclays. Further, dialling 14771 after ensuring that the number is not from a reliable source, will log that number as a malicious call with your telephone operator.
- Caller: Claimed to be Barclays Bank
- dixie dog replies to JulieIf you give them name DOB and postcode they claim to have you in some kind of contract- put on a different accent and pretend you know nothing or ask them for their details- or ask them if they understand the terms of the data protection act or even better try to sell them a loan at 2666% apr- they will probably leave you alone as they think you are mad
- CATHERINEI made a vow yesterday to start telling these phone callers where to go!! This was my first at work, he asked for the other director, I asked what it was regarding, he said business banking, I told him no point in ringing back, he replied "Do you know where I'm calling from, and what it's about", I said no but I'm not interested and put the phone down!!! There next one will get both barrels!!!! Morons
