No problem, I've emailed Barclays to get their comments on the actions of their alleged employee, and I'll take it from there.

Had a call from this number a few minutes agao.  now, it may or may not be a genuine call from Barclays.  However, that's not the point.  I am registered with TPS.  If I want to discuss my financial affira with my bank - or any other financial institution - I am more than capable of doing so myself. I do NOT welcome cold-calling from any organisation or business, whatever they may be trying to persuade me to interest myself in. And I do not exchange personal info, such as date of birth, mother's maiden name, last two or three numbers of debit card et cetera over the phone.

I have assigned this number my 'nuisance caller' ringtone - so shall be spared the nuisance of answering any future calls.

regardless of whether or not you are registered with the tps if we are a bank you have dealings with then you will be called - it is not cold calling as there is an existing relationship present and we would be doing you a disservice if we were not to tell you about ways you could save money - too many people say the banks are not looking out for their customers and when we are people still moan.

Sorry to disagree with you.  TPS state that, if you have a present or previous relationship with a company and request that that company does not contact you by 'phone, they must do as requested.  If they do not, you can report them.  I requested that my own bank only contact me by mail or e-mail for marketting purposes and they have no problem with that and never have had.

I do hope you have read the response to your suggestion.  Being registered with TPS means that you do not receive cold calls of this sort, regardless of who the company may be - or whether or not you happen to have an account with a particular bank.  As it happens, I do not have an account with Barclays, nor, after this nuisance calling, am I likely to do so.

As I said in my earlier post, if I want advice from a financial institution, I am perfectly capable of seeking it myself.  I do not welcome such intrusive behaviour from what, I am sure, is otherwise an excellent bank.

That's fine unfortunately in the last post u didn't state u were nOt with Barclays hence the before advice but that's fine as a contact centre employer theres Two things it could be

1.possibly wrong number unless they said its you by name then it may be
    2. You have a business elsewhere that Barclays may persuade you to speak to a business manager otherwise  out of ideas to hy we may have called you or liz if u do not have an account

Though the call was a little suspicious. I tried to login to online banking today, to find my card was blocked, so gave barclays a call. They said that the police had given them recent info on compromised cards, thats why mine was cut off. Coincidence? I think not.

Over the past couple of years this number has frequently appeared as a missed call on my business line - except today when I bothered to answer out of curiosity.

All I got was a name " Peter " but could not hear anything else as the line was bad and it sounded as if they were on the Moon.

As a matter of routine, when I receive calls from unrecognised numbers I answer but say nothing and leave my phone on hold - it wastes their time and money and the eerie silence response in my personal experience is the single most successful method of countering nuisance calls.

I recommend it to others !

Just called me this morning, asking for a person who hasn't had this phone number for at least 18 months. Had calls before for this previous number holder's name.  Polite and very apologetic when I explained this.  Told me she would amend their records accordingly.

I got a call today from this number 0800 085 2652.  I didn't give any information and ended the call.  I then phoned a known Barclays Customer Services number and, after putting me on hold and enquiring of another department, they confirmed that this was a GENUINE BARCLAYS NUMBER – she described it as a 'courtesy call'.  She also confirmed that it was ok to give the details requested, e.g. my DoB and the last 2 characters of the answer to my 'special question'.

Anyway, I probably don't want what they're offering, so I'm not going to call them back!

I have read the posts here and alarm bells are ringing.  I have had calls in the past from this number including today.

Today when I answered the phone no one spoke they hung up after I said hello, mm!

In the past I have had a male say he was from Barclays and wanted to discuss my a/c over the phone, I refused to give my details and date of birth and he got a bit annoyed with me, so I hung up.

After the call today I decided to check the number out andI 'm glad I did.  What a world we live in, these people are despicable.

My mum is a barclays account holder but when I said she wasn't home they immediately put the phone down. Not sure if barclays would actually do this. In regards to the above comments,I do know they have a call centre based in the Beth east from my personal experience. Does anyone know how to get removed from telesales database?
