I'm also getting lots of calls lately from this number. Never pick up but it is annoying. And funny enough, they have started calling me around the same time calls from this other number 01202415780 have also started (which seems to be Halifax for what I have read here). Very annoying (and they also call late evenings)

I just received another call this number after a break of about six months. It is not a number belonging to Barclays or anyone associated to Barclays. If you get someone with a Newcastle (Geordie) accent, it's a scam. I have asked my branch to check the number out, which they did, and they have no reference or knowledge of it other than the fact it has been reported many times as being suspicious.

These tried to ring my house phone at 6.25pm tonight
My truecall saw it as a scam/spam so didn't even conect them to my house phone!
I bank with Barclays and arnt in any debt so why if it was them would they ring me?
Also they don't have my house number only my mobile because I don't know my house number off by heart to give them as its a new number!
    So its defiantly NOT Barclays!

This is definitely Barclay's and in spite of repeated requests to not call, they insist on doing so. Because we are account holders, they have the privilege of calling us even though we are on the telephone preference service list. We'll continue to complain at them.

Margaret Edge banked with Barclays for 68 years - yet it claimed she didn't exist

    By LAURA PULLMAN

    PUBLISHED: 01:15, 23 January 2013 | UPDATED: 09:24, 23 January 2013

A grieving 90-year-old widow was told by Barclays that it had no record of her existence — even though she’d banked with the bank for almost seven decades.

Margaret Edge was left without money and unable to pay her bills over Christmas after the bank froze her account when she attempted to rearrange her finances following the death of her husband Reuben. The couple had been married for 68 years.

Problems began in October last year when the great-grandmother tried to change the details on a joint account she’d shared with her late husband, who had died aged 95.

Long-time customers: Margaret Edge and her late husband Reuben, who had been married for 68 years
The couple — who met during World  War II when Mr Edge was stationed in Northumberland and Margaret was volunteering in the Auxiliary Territorial Service — opened the account with Barclays shortly after getting married in 1944.

Every week since then, Mrs Edge had visited her local branch in Leigh, Lancashire, to cash a cheque into their joint account.

In all this time, all the documentation the couple had received was in both names, including their chequebook and statements. Mrs Edge also had her own debit card.

Each month for the past 30 years, Mrs Edge’s pension had been paid into the account. Occasionally, both husband and wife were invited into the branch to  discuss their finances.

Shortly after Mr Edge, a former deputy headmaster, died, his widow tried to put the account into her sole name. She asked her son Alan, 65, to go into  the bank with her husband’s  death certificate

But Barclays told him that the account was only in Mr Edge’s name.

It then froze all the money — leaving Mrs Edge unable to pay her household bills.

For three months she was forced to battle branch staff to get them to reopen the account. Her son was furious and stepped in to make an official complaint.

Incredibly, the bungling bank then wrote a letter addressed to Mrs Edge’s late husband to acknowledge the problem.

Mrs Edge says: ‘I don’t want to hear Barclays’ name again.

‘I can’t understand why it says it doesn’t know me, after all these years. It made me feel really ill. I couldn't eat or sleep for worrying about it.

‘I kept seeing direct debits not being paid and bills piling up.

‘We never owed a penny all our lives. How did Barclays expect me to pay my bills? Where was my pension going to go?’

Last week, Barclays boss Antony Jenkins warned employees to sign up to the bank’s new caring sharing values — or quit.

He told 140,000 staff they must promise to work with ‘respect, integrity, service, excellence  and stewardship’.

Alan Edge, a grandfather, says: ‘I regularly enquired about the process of my complaint and met a variety of responses. They said that I dialled the wrong number, or had emailed the wrong address — both of which were on the complaints leaflet.

‘Three times I was assured that I would be telephoned by the person dealing with it, but I didn’t receive a single call.

‘When I asked how my mother could pay her household bills, Barclays said it couldn’t help. I couldn’t believe they could leave a 90-year-old woman to her own devices when she was particularly vulnerable.
‘Barclays doesn’t appear to have shown any understanding, compassion, sympathy  or initiative.’

Three months later, Barclays have admitted the account was held in joint names so Mrs Edge could put it into her name and access her frozen funds and also gave her £250 compensation.
She has now moved the account to a different bank.

A spokesman from Barclays says: ‘It is evident that on this occasion we have failed to meet our usual high standards when resolving this matter.

‘We offer our deepest sympathies for the recent loss of Mrs Edge’s husband and our profuse apologies for any distress our mistakes caused.

‘This is an extremely rare and isolated incident that we believe occurred as a result of an internal oversight. We are now working with Mrs Edge and her son to resolve this matter as quickly  as possible.’

    Hi All

I have just recieved a call from this number, but didn't answer it. Instead looked it up on the web.

If this is Barclays then they are not allowed, as far as Im aware, to access your details without permission from you.

If they give out your details simply by your DOB, then Im sorry but there are a number of issues here. Make sure that if you do get a call from them that your extremely unhappy and that you will move your account.

    All the best

This call may well be from Barclays, but in today's day, couldn't anyone call you pretending to be your bank? They should be more savvy than that. In the past, I have refused to give my details away, and will continue to do so to call of this manner.

Constantly ring, if you answer no  one speaks and they never leave a message on the answer phone. Is it someone calling to make their employers think they are working and making "customer calls"? We are x directory and shouldn't be getting these types of calls
