It's still bloody annoying when you have not asked for any additional services - cold in that sense - let's not split hairs - and I never give personal information over the phone - neither should anyone.

Barclays should be aware that to do so is opening yourself up to fraud/ impersonation.

In that case why did a "Barclays caller" say to prove who I am I can give you your bank account number.

Could be a scam so check on Barclays' site www.barclays.co.uk/ContactUs/Callus/P1242558110824 which has the genuine Barclays' 0800 numbers listed. because caller ID's can be faked never give a cold-caller any information but simply hang up and check your own bank's website and then ring them on one of the 0800 numbers that that site gives.

I refused to confirm my DOB - then caller to prove she was from Barclay's offered to quote my bank number
As I had not yet identified myself - they were quoting my account number to an as yet total stranger
- hardly top security!!!

i have to question you on that because they/we never give out acc numbers unless we go through security.we would give last 6 of card number or any 2 of you sort code but not anything that could put the account at risk.
as for why we have to prove ourselves its for peace of mind for the customer over the phone, as you say we could be anyone so hence why we give proof.

oh and as for personal information again Barclays would never ask anything that could effect the account.

hangs up when pick phone up. getting very tiresome now. On tps service so do not expect cold calls from anybody

This number keeps calling then hanging up as soon as I answer.

Called me today re some ridiculous amount of insurance to which i am entitled, of course i know im not, told him not interested and i hung up, he then called back immediately with same so i hung up, he called right back and told me he was going to F*** my mother and F*** my sister, i complained to BT who told me to call them back and complain as its Barclays Bank??, i have not phoned them. I am a single man aged 75 and it is quite worrying to me.

Plagued with this number so answered - claimed to be Barclays. I asked them to prove it and they said they would once I had answered some security questions!!! I ended the call telling them that there is too much fraud in the world to answer questions to A VOICE  that I have no way of confirming is Barclays or a scammer.

3 missed calls from them yesterday. Answered 2 calls this morning but they hang up each time I answer.

I dont care who it is. I'm not giving my personal details to anyone over the phone. If I want something, I'll contact them!

Caller said he was from Barclays Bank.  Asked for date of birth.  Surely a scam

Im being harrassed by this number! everyday for over a year, have decided to contact barclays complaints dept now

This number has called me twice this evening, once on landline and once on mobile.  I answered both times but the cal just cut straight off.  I can't find it on the Barclays website so no idea if the previous suggestions of it being Barclays are correct, but I do bank with them and they have both of those numbers so it could be.

had a call saying they were from Barclays to discuss my day to day banking. 1st question they asked was last 2 letters of my mum's maiden name. told them I was at work and couldn't talk. then hung up

had this number call me on thursday last week.

as several people have said the people know exactly your details, balance info etc.etc.etc.

just been on phone to barclays in india 3 times this morning.
eventually i lost it and said put me through to someone in england. i managed to speak to someone.

if you do the fraud thing on barclays website it says not a barclays number.

IT IS BARCLAYS. it is from an office of theirs in liverpool.

i was worried with it both being an 0800 number and also having a considerable amount in my accounts.
