- Caller: barclays
- Call type: Survey
- Sue in DorsetThought it was another marketing call and it was.
- Caller: Barclays Bank
- Call type: Telemarketer
- MNothing to worry about. Its just Barclays doing a 'customer service' call. They only asked for my DOB and 2 letters from my mothers maiden name. They wanted to know if I was OK with my bank, they knew I was using the Online Mobile app and asked if I had any problems using it. They asked and promoted their loans and overdrafts deals and that was it. A very nice chap and told me if I had any further problems to call or visit my local branch.

- jonthinks its barclays, they knew about a recent letter iv had from barclays. Its been asked for DOB and last 2 letters of mums maiden name that's a bit unnerving ...
- AurisJUST got a call from them, gave my birth date but when they asked about my mother's maiden name i got suspicious, said i wouldn't give any personal details over the phone. The person assured me it's barclays and not in any way dodgy, said goodbye and hung up. Was pretty polite, but i was still suspicious. Now that link the other guy gave here on the forums https://whocallsme.com/~sys~/r/?eu=AM0QzM1ADN ... 5yd3d3LvoDc0RHa showed me it's legit. It's barclays number checking thing to see if you've ACTUALLY been contacted by barclays. appears this number is legit, still i'm not giving away my details over the phone to anyone, screw that.
- Alex replies to BillI contacted Barclays, after receiving a call, through their web chat and the agent informed me that this is a legitimate Barclays number. I believe that it may be some sort of Barclays marketing department, possibly one that is outsourced.
Regardless I would not give out any details. Better to ask what they are calling for and then ring the regular customer service number to follow up. - TCMJust had a call from this number, claimed to be Barclays (who I do bank with) and wanted to discuss my account.
Then the lady (broad Northern accent) asked for my DOB to confirm who I was. Fishing expedition. - RincewindJust phoned from this number and er claimed to be Barclays, possibly is but i'm not giving personal details to anyone over the phone who I didn't contact first.
- Rincewind| 1 replySo i just checked with Barclays and the personal banker there said that I hadn't been contacted by Barclays and should not disclose information without checking validity with Barclays first.
- Jeeves replies to RincewindThey might well say that. It was in the News a few days ago that Barclays had admitted that they had been hacked a while ago and customers' personal information had been stolen. They just did not bother to tell anyone at time time! I a suppose it depends how long you have been a Barclays customer as to whether your information has been compromised.
- Harassed| 1 replyJust got a call from these people but missed it. Seen the comments that it's Barclays, went on Barclays website which gives a list of all their numbers. Surprise Surprise this is not one of them. Ignore it
- SpivesReceived a missed call from these number. Called back and asked where it was from. Poorly English speaking... Barclay bank will never call to ask any personal information unless you need to call them.. These number is a scammer...
- Caller: Not sure
- MichaelJust phoned Barclays Customer Care after the second call from this number. They don't phone customers and ask for details (which is what I thought in the first place) so it's definitely not real. They are trying to get your information to access your account. In fact they ask for your date of birth and mothers maiden name, calling Customer Care those were the two pieces of information asked to confirm who I was before I got through to a person so that sums it up really.
- Michael replies to HarassedDid the same thing lol
- BooHad a call from this number today - they asked to speak to me - said speaking then they just decided to chat in the background, I'm at work so only take quick personal calls - very frustrating!
- Rather not say, thanks!Hi everyone,
I work in the contact center and telecommunications industry (don't shoot me - I am just the messenger!)
I also got a call from this number, today. As you might expect, I also told them to STOP and GO AWAY. Then I looked up the number and was lead here... have to say that this is a very ill-thought-out strategy by Barclay's. Everyone is (quite correctly) being made aware of potential scammers on the phone and their OWN STAFF are emulating the same behavior! Want to stop it? Go to your Barclay's Account on-line, look up your marketing preferences and "switch off" telephone contacts or update your mobile number to a "dud"...
I also suspect I know why the calls are being placed... read on if you are interested....
If you have a lot of staff in contact centers and things get quiet on "Inbound Calls", most Contact Centers use the same staff to make Outbound Calls, to a pre-defined dialing list. Obviously, in this case it is Barclay's own customers they are calling. BUT... unless you are (and I say this in all honesty) quite gullible, the likelihood of them getting through the ID&V (identification & Verification) process with you is slim...
It's a pretty futile way of expending resources when there is just not enough work to go around - and, on the very odd occasion, they might actually get some sort of "sale" out of it. But I suspect the "success rate" is less than 1%... Really badly though out, Barclay's - there are other ways to connect with your customers in real-time, other than Cold Calling them!
You're Welcome, by the way..!- Caller: Barclays
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Em135| 2 repliesGot this call come through today claiming to be Barclays asking for bank details so that they could update me about my account, I refused and rang Barclays through their website apparently it's a scam as they would update you through the post. Please ignore it's a scam!!!!
- Canard replies to Em135| 1 replyI have just validated this number on Barclays website and it is genuine, as in not a scam. Admittedly, it's a bit daft of Barclays to warn their customers about giving personal details over the phone unless the customer initiated the call only to cold call them from this number and ask for their personal details!
- Scam number!| 3 repliesJust received a similar call asking me to clear security so that they could tell me about a new feature of the Barclays app. I just spoke with Barclays and they said that the number doesn't belong to them and not to give any details like that over the phone. They also added that: Barclays never sends such emails or make calls to informing you about any activity on your account or to introduce the new features.
- Jay meei asked them (as they said they was my bank) i said i will go through there security if they could tell me my current balance in my account and they couldn’t so i refused to give any other info!
