Called me today, I answered and they stated they were from Barclays bank. They asked me for my D.O B which I gave as that information is available all over the internet. They then asked for my mother's maiden name. I refused to give them that and I told him that I didn't believe he was from Barclay he then "Pulled up my account" and told me the last 4 digits on my debit card, he then asked if that was enough proof, I said no as I put that information in on the net when I buy things. I asked him what he was calling me for and apparently it was to inform me of new features on the Mobile App. I asked why I have to give my personal information for this and he said you have to pass security. I said if anything new comes on the App it tells me when I go on so thanks but no thanks. He hung up.

Just had a phone call from this number, was concerned when my husband gave his date of birth and mothers maiden name, having never received any calls from Barclays before, asked him to call Barclays customer service and they confirmed that this number IS a Barclays number.

Answered a call today and they asked me my date of birth so i asked her for her date of birth. She didnt laugh or give it to me funnily enough. She said it was only for security,i questioned her and she put the phone straight down on me. There is NO WAY barclays would do this. There are warnings up inside Barclays Branches about these calls - they can show a false number on your screen apparently so even if you ring them back to see if its ligitimate it makes no difference - i never knew that scammers could show you a false number on the screen but hey hoh, life moves on. Warnings are up in branch so be aware - THIS IS NOT BARCLAYS.

scam callers can show you ANY number they like on your phone screen - they show you a legitimate number so even if you do ring it theres no link through to them. It is a scam. Warning poster up in my bank. Anybody who questions them gets the phone put down on them. I saw the warning poster up in branch before they rang me.

Sorry - but I had this number as missed call just now. I called a known Barclays telephone number and asked them to check for me. Barclays staff confirmed 0800 085 2652 IS a scam number.  As they called my mobile, I have blocked it from calling me again.

I have received a call from this number at 10:50 am today (Saturday). The caller had an american accent and said to be calling from Barclays and needed to provide some information about the Mobile Banking App. She asked for my date of birth and my mother's maiden name saying she they need to confirm they are talking to the right customer. I got suspicious as I have never been asked these details if not to access my telephone banking and said I was busy and to call me later. I called Barclays and explained what happened: they assured me they do not call customers to promote any of the features of the mobile banking app - it is up to the customer if they would like to get some info they need to call the bank. Also, I have given this number and the Barclays team will be investigating. DO NOT PROVIDE YOUR DETAILS!!!!!

Just answered the phone to this number. Barclays apparently. Ask if i would answer security questions to prove who i was. So i asked if she could prove who she said she was. Not comfortable giving bank info to a random number so the conversation ended there

Barclays have a call centre in wavertree, Liverpool. I used to work across the road from them! I also believe they have them in the north east.

Called this evening claiming to be Barclays regarding the mobile banking app. Called Barclays directly from my banking app, the lovely lady on the phone told me she wasn't aware that it was one of their numbers and laughed when I told her I'd tell them to bugger off the next time they called again.

American/Eastern European Gentleman called me saying he wanted to talk to me about a new feature to the Mobile Banking App for Barclays. He then asked for my DOB to which I said I wasn't comfortable giving that out and what was the actual purpose of his call. He said he could give me 6 digits from my account to prove it was Barclays but didn't actually answer why needed to call me for this. I asked why they wouldn't be sending me an email or a letter to tell me about a new feature (which is generally what usually happens) and he said "we are not going to be sending anything like that out for this fantastic feature" and asked again for my date of birth. Said he was wasting my time and hung up.

He was pretty difficult to understand and tried to confuse me when I on the phone, as such I'm confident that it was 100% bogus- don't fall for giving out personal information!

Rang from Barclays at only 5:15, so suspicious straight way, then asked for Date of Birth.

Just got a call from this number claiming it's Barclays which it looks like is genuine as I checked it on the website. But still, it doesn't seem right to ask about somebody's details and without further explanation caller just hung up saying there's nothing to worry about as it would make me calm. To me, it looks suspicious even if it truly is Barclays.

Just got a call from these guys and they immediately asked for my mother's maiden name. This seemed suspicious so I googled the number and came here, then just said "Nice try" and hung up. Geordie accent. Thanks you guys :)

I've just received a call from this number on my mobile and an Indian sounding guy said he was from Barclays (who I bank with) and was it a convenient time to talk? I said can you call back at six pm and he said "oh we're just letting you know that we have updated the phone app", sniggered, then said "have a nice day" and rung off. He didn't ask any security questions but it was very suspicious.

I've just called Barclays through the phone app and it definitely is Barclays. They use it for courtesy and customer satisfaction calls. It took the guy I spoke to a couple of minutes to find the number as he needed to put it into his system with spaces.

Called and left what I assume is an accidental voicemail that consisted of heavy breathing lol! I work for one of the UK's largest financial institutions and all phones although interlinked may not come up withheld and mine can come up with a 0800 number. This being said if you are not expecting a call I would never give any details back or trying calling number back as there are an awful lot of vishing scams about. Ask for their employee number and an official Barclays no to call back on. Or better still tell them to write to you! And if you have an iPhone just use the block caller function. Job done!
