- Canard replies to Scam number!| 2 repliesAs I explained in my post just above yours (!), I validated this number using Barclays online number check facility and it is definitely one of theirs. You might like to take this up with whoever you spoke to at Barclays and ask them why they are misleading you. Your Barclays contact asserts that Barclays never make calls "introducing new features". Well, that is exactly what this number is all about although they prefer the phrase "general product developments". You can opt out of receiving these calls, by the way. Scam number? No.
- Jeeves replies to CanardTake your point Canard, but there is a problem. The Police and the Banks are telling people not to give information to anyone calling saying they are from "your Bank". Their advice is to hang up the 'phone and then unplug it. Leave it unpligged for at least 10 minutes then 'phone your bank on a number you know to be genuine. Apparently the scammers have learned to spoof genuine Bank 'phone numbers, something wghich they have been doing in the US for a few years. What really makes me angry is that, despite doing this the Banks still 'phone us and ask for information. You rally couldn't make it up!
- GlynCalled my mobile and hung up when i answered the call.
- anon replies to BillI received a call from this number today saying it's Barclays and they have some updates they have to give me about the mobile banking app. They asked me to verify my DOB and I asked why they needed to verify my details to give me general information about the app. Then the lady said Ok, to prove we are legitimate I will give you your bank account number and you can choose two digits from your sort code and if they are correct will you then believe it is Barclays calling?! Who does that in a professional organisation?! Anyhow, I said yes to the details she gave me (without checking it was actually correct) and as she proceeded to ask me my DOB again I hung up!
Don't think I want to know about these updates. Don't know if it's legitimate or a scam, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
On the basis of the reporting above I think I will report this to the fraud unit. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. - Andrew BoyleJust had a phone call from this number claiming to be Barclays. Asked me to identify myself, but could not identify them self at all, apart from they could give me my long card number, sortcode and account, which obviously they could have if they had a picture of my card, from a skimmer. They offered NO way of proving who they were. They just told me to google the number to prove it was a Barclays number, and ended up here.
Spoke to Barclays directly myself:
http://www.barclays.co.uk/Helpsupport/Contactusaboutfraud/P1242560037908
On the phone number: 0345 734 5345
And they confirmed this was NOT a barclays number. ALL Barclays calls can be identified using the PINsentry device, which the 0800 number refused to use.- Caller: FRAUD claiming to be Barlcays
- AndypandyGot a call from this number today, it's a 3rd party company selling premier accounts for Barclays.
Just ask them to remove your number and not to contact you again.- Caller: not actually Barclays
- anonThis number called me along with other nuisance callers I never answer the phone I wait till they ring off then check who the caller/number was if they are not withheld.
- Caller: 08000852652
- Moth| 1 replyI suffer with very bad anxiety and this number unknown to me is hounding my phone.
I dare not answer it incase it is fraud. I am not sleeping for worry.
M - For Moth: replies to MothGo to your Barclays on-line account and update your contact preference - remove your telephone numbers from their system or, if you can't, update them to bogus numbers.
- AnonJust had a missed call on my landline from this number but rang off after 6 rings! I know Barclays don't call or email their customers they write to you!
- Caller: Scam
- JohnAs previous reports. Refused to tell me what the fabulous new service was unless I gave personal details, they already know my name and credit card number - both of which every merchant I've ever bought from has on file. Think of the call as "I'm from ISIS, we'd like to use your account to fund terrorism" and act accordingly. I checked with Barclay's fraud section. Number is similar to but NOT one of theirs.
- Caller: Claims it's Barclays
- Call type: Telemarketer
- SThis is a FRAUDULENT phone call. They claim to be ringing from barclays and need to confirm your details in order to speak to you about the mobile banking app... NO CHANCE! I have spoken to barlcays myself (using their number on their website) and they can confirm it was not them and do not need that information to market the mobile banking app. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!
- Caller: Pretended to be BARCLAYS
- JGHad this number call me earlier today, didn't answer as I don't answer 0800 numbers, when the call went through to my voicemail (don't think they realised), background sounded very noisy and music playing, don't somehow think Barclays genuinely sound like that if they call their customers, I shall avoid this number from now.
- AdamCalled me today, I answered and they stated they were from Barclays bank. They asked me for my D.O B which I gave as that information is available all over the internet. They then asked for my mother's maiden name. I refused to give them that and I told him that I didn't believe he was from Barclay he then "Pulled up my account" and told me the last 4 digits on my debit card, he then asked if that was enough proof, I said no as I put that information in on the net when I buy things. I asked him what he was calling me for and apparently it was to inform me of new features on the Mobile App. I asked why I have to give my personal information for this and he said you have to pass security. I said if anything new comes on the App it tells me when I go on so thanks but no thanks. He hung up.
- Caller: Barclays
- DebbyJust had a phone call from this number, was concerned when my husband gave his date of birth and mothers maiden name, having never received any calls from Barclays before, asked him to call Barclays customer service and they confirmed that this number IS a Barclays number.
- Caller: Barclays
- Mrs S replies to CanardJust had a call from them, they hung up quite quickly, rung Barclays to confirm and they said I haven't been contacted today and this is a number formerly used by Barclays and IS a scam
- Tigrancalled from barclays
- TaraAnswered a call today and they asked me my date of birth so i asked her for her date of birth. She didnt laugh or give it to me funnily enough. She said it was only for security,i questioned her and she put the phone straight down on me. There is NO WAY barclays would do this. There are warnings up inside Barclays Branches about these calls - they can show a false number on your screen apparently so even if you ring them back to see if its ligitimate it makes no difference - i never knew that scammers could show you a false number on the screen but hey hoh, life moves on. Warnings are up in branch so be aware - THIS IS NOT BARCLAYS.
- Caller: 08000852652
- Tara replies to Canardscam callers can show you ANY number they like on your phone screen - they show you a legitimate number so even if you do ring it theres no link through to them. It is a scam. Warning poster up in my bank. Anybody who questions them gets the phone put down on them. I saw the warning poster up in branch before they rang me.
- Ymcl replies to anonSorry - but I had this number as missed call just now. I called a known Barclays telephone number and asked them to check for me. Barclays staff confirmed 0800 085 2652 IS a scam number. As they called my mobile, I have blocked it from calling me again.
