Just had a call from this number with someone selling some sort of insurance from MBNA for credit cards. Very rude man on the other end. Wouldn't take no for an answer.

I just had a phone call, they said Hello can I speak to....oh i 4got sorry i will have to ring you back, Who are they? It seems like people have had different types of phone calls off the same number.

I just had another phone call and asked for (my Dads name) how do these people get your number? They do not even say where they are calling from.

Keep receiving silent calls, but 1471nd the number, given advice to dial another number 0800 032 4617 and enter your number to be cleared from their calling list - it can take up to 24 hours (I will wait and see).  So they appear professional, however the "silent" calls are illegal!

This number has been calling me twice a day for the last 4 days. I answered the first day and they didn't speak and so i just hung up. When i did 1471 and rang it back it said it was the listening company! A load of s*&t!

Why do these numbers keep ringing!? It's sooooo frustrating!

They're still at it. This number rang this morning but I don't answer any no. I don't recognise. If it's important they'll leave a message. Anyone who doesn't have phone with caller display should get one as soon as poss. they're not expensive. Mine cost about £15 at supermarket. Saves the 1471 hassle and you can key in names of callers you want to answer.

I've had this number ring me a few times a day for the last month or so, haven't answered once because I was suspicious....and I'll continue to ignore it after reading all the comments!

Thank you to you all for your comments here.  I was thinking i was missing out on an important call.  I have not rung back and will not - as far as i'm concerned if someone wants to talk to me then they should ring me back - especially if i don't know them.  This number has been calling me constantly over the past couple of days.  I'm going to try the hash thing and keep pressing it when they call me again.

I have had calls from this number now for about 2weeks.  They keep hanging up as soon as I answer my phone.  I am now going to ignore it and try to get my phone to bar it as well.

Over the last few weeks i've also got calls from this number - never had the change to asnwer - after seeing all the details on here dont think i would like to answer.

I've sent a message to WatchDog - Perhaps if anyone else is concerned they should logon to the BBC Watch Dog site and riase their concerns for it to be investigates further.

I've had 9 calls from this number in 5 days and only on the last call did someone speak. Outgrageous that they can call then hang up that many times. I spoke to a team supervisor she tells me that the they are a huge huge call centre and there are lots of different businesses using the call centre services: MBNA, BT, Sky, Microsoft....anyway after my complaint she's put me on the "do not call list" for the whole call centre so thats what you need to do.

I had them call a few times, didn't answer because of what was said on here. I gave in the other day and they said they were GE Money and offering me a fraud protection thing for a free 30day trial as I am a dorothy perkins card holder.

Is this a new one?

Had a silent call from this number a few days ago, and now they've asked for someone who doesn't live here. Tried to ring off but when pressed said they were from MBNA and tried to claim they were getting a 'system error' message. Pressed again, said that the automatic dialler had made a mistake. Had to keep grilling him before getting him to admit that the dialler had rung number a but given him person's name b.

Reported previous call and will report this one too.

People, please stop flapping when you get these calls. Yes, they are a pain and maybe stress you out. Do a little Detective work and you will find that this caller is a tele-marketing company. Their website is www.listening.co.uk and shows you that they market for all sorts of well-known companies. This is why people have stated calls from BT, O2, Orange, etc.
I've just picked up the number from 1471. I googled it, read this forum. Googled the company name. Read their website and put my mind at rest.
Yes, it's a pain (I'm ex-directory and registered with TPS) but at least you know they're a legitimate company (not scammers). And if you choose to, you can call their Head Office and complain to them direct (or keep phoning to annoy them!).
If people didn't panic so much on this forum, we wouldn't all think that every unsolicited call has got to be a scam! Chill Out People....

Is the last poster linked to the Listening Company by any chance?

If so how about commenting about the fact that they have an appalling tendency to make silent calls, something that Barclaycard were fined £50k for (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7637419.stm).

Don't think the response of most people on this forum was panic, mate, more pi**sed off ... and so would you be if they kept waking you up (everyone who has a genuine reasons to call me *knows* I work nights and sleep days) ...
... and tele-marketing normally *is* scamming, trying to persuade you to buy a product or service you don't want, normally through unsolicited overselling and misrepresentation. That's scamming. Just because it's BT, Orange, O2 doesn't somehow make it fine and dandy.

Protest through ofcom and watchdog, try and stop this intrusive and illegal practice.

Yes 'chill pill' I could get myself taken off their list, but the more time they do this, the more I report it to Ofcom, and the more chance there is they'll get fined. Maybe then they'll get their act together.

Sorry, I say 'they' but I do of course mean 'you' (at least some of the other attempts to hijack this page by the surely ironically named Listening Company have been transparent).

The number has phoned me consistently for the past week, when I actually answer they just hang up.

keep getting calls from this number. once a day, usually midday but i'm always in work so never answer. have had them for nearly 2 weeks

When I first got a call from this number I answered and was told it was about my Topshop account card, my account was fine but they were running security checks. I told them I was busy at work and they said they would call back. I get a call every day from the same no. at different times and today I have had two calls so I decided to google it. Its disgusting, you can't even have privacy on your own phone line.
