- AlastairI keep getting calls from 0800 0389 6818 and found it is 'The Listening Company'
they have a number to call to get your number taken off the list - it is 0800 0324 617 - its an automated number and is easy to use - whether it works or not only time will tell.- Caller: The Listening Company
- hmmhad a call from them on my mobile 9pm at night!!! Didn't know who it was so looked it up here. Rubbish.
- CharlieNot sure how recent this goes up to, but I've had calls from this number for 3 days in a row, the first I answered and they hung up straight away. Just thought I'd add my experience as it is quite annoying, and I'd recommend just ignoring them! what can they seriously do besides annoy you every now and then!
- submarinerJust had a call from this number. No response at the other end except a couple of 'hello's' then pretended they couldn't hear me so hung up. Thought I would check the number on line and found this site with a whole history of calls from them. Seems they just want to harass people. I obviously won't be answering any other calls from them.
- Mrs LawrenceNo one there when I answered the call
- PaulCalled my mobile No. asking for the mother-in-law, just told them they had wrong number
- Caller: would not say
- yearightI never pick if dont recognize the number. its not like iv applied for jobs for them to call me.
- jayprimeI've just taken a call from someone asking for my wife. I said that she was out and asked who was calling. The guy gave a name that sounded like "Efinian". I asked what they did and he said they deal with fraud.
When he rang off I dialed 1471 and got the number 08003896818.
So, since it's variously reported as connected with BT, "The Listening Company", O2, Orange, etc, just where does the 'fraud' bit come in? - LouiseThis number keeps ringing my phone, it has just rang twice as I was looking up the number on here. So the second time they did get some abuse as it is sooooooooooo frustrating!! JUST GO AWAY!!
- BangerGot a call from them tonite saying they were MBNA and to call my credit card hotline which I did and it turned out my CC numbers had been leaked so new card issued. Maybe some sort of call centre?
- Caller: MBNA
- MartinHad a call at about 4pm this afternoon. Wife answered it as she didn't have her glasses on and the caller asked for me by my surname.
The caller started with a few pleasantries and then introduced himself as being from a company connected with the likes of Evans.
He was just about to ramble on when I stopped him in his tracks and said if he'd rung to offer me card insurance I wasn't interested. He seemed a little narked but then said that would be related to card cloning but he had called relating to data protection or something.
I knew he was wanting to sell us some kind of policy so I went out of range of the wireless phone and told him he was beginning to break-up before cutting him off.
I haven't got time for these 08003 or 08000 people who keep ringing us and if the wife had only left it for the answering machine to take, these people would never have got to speak to me... ever!- Caller: Evans related company
- MartinRe: 'J' (above)
His message:
"I received two calls from this number today, one which I missed and one which I answered. The man said he was calling about my Topshop Account and new identity theft protection being offered. He asked to clarify some of my details, but I asked if I could look up the info online instead. He became rude and asked why I was uncomfortable - I explained that the call was unsolicited, he was calling in the evening and there was a lot of background noise. He said he was in a call centre, mumbled something that he told me to google and then I ended the call. Even if this was a genuine call the timing and rudeness were inappropriate."
If you look at my last post, the circumstances were very similar. The caller saying he was ringing about Identity Theft Protection, etc. but in my case he said he was related to Evans (whom we have an account with).
I am concerned because I did not consider how genuine this guy was before I'd given him my first name and post code. It's got me worried now and I don't know whether to cancel our card or not, in case anything untowards happens!!!?- Caller: Evans related company
- KevinI too keep getting calls from this company even though I don't answer them. Looking at how many complaints there are about this company, is there any reason why they haven't been shut down?!
- Hornsea UKJust received a call at 2008 GMT

- AI keep getting calls from this number, I never answer.
- Mr PI've just rung 0208 484 1000 explaining I'm registered with TPS (and have been for years).
They say my number will be off the database within 24 hours (shouldn't be on there as they must have the TPS list, very naughty !)
Hopefully that will do the trick to stop these nuisance calls. - Annoyed from UKThe Listening Company are being investigated by Ofcom for silen persistent calling
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/bulletins/comp_bull_i ... sed_all/cw_835/
Ofcom has received complaints from members of the public about Promote IT, Toucan Telecom and The Listening Company Ltd regarding the annoyance caused to consumers by the making of short duration and/or silent calls.
In addition, Ofcom made a formal request for information relating to short duration and silent calls from British Telecommunications plc ("BT") in May 2005. The request was made under section 135 of the Communications Act 2003 (“the Act”). Following the receipt of the information from BT’s Nuisance Calls Bureau, Ofcom has identified ANT Marketing UK, Thompson Directories Ltd, Firestorm Marketing Ltd, and Fax Information Services Ltd as companies which have regularly made silent and/or short duration calls.
Ofcom has therefore decided to open an investigation to determine whether the companies identified above have persistently misused an electronic communications network or electronic communications service contrary to section 128 of the Act.
Sections 128 to 130 of the Act gives Ofcom the power to take action against persons or companies who persistently misuse an electronic communications network(s) or service(s) in any way that causes or is likely to cause unnecessary annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety.
Where Ofcom finds that a person or company is in breach of the above provision, it may issue an enforcement notification and/or impose a financial penalty on the misuser.- Caller: The Listening Company
