This is Virgin Media Sales but not necessarily Virgin Media themselves i.e a company employed by VM to promote a product. In my case it was a 'bolt-on' to improve broadband speed, including anti-virus, tech support for all devices (XBoxes etc). Perfectly polite. If you ring VM to ask if it's genuine they are so dim that they won't know, so they pretend they do and will tell you it's a scam starting panic on sites like these.

Lady rang from this No today.  Said she is from Virgin and would like to ask about me recently downgrading my package ( I had done this two days previously), asked for my password.  I told her I would not give her any information and she hung up.

When answered there was nobody there. Blocked the number on my mobile. The only people who know this are Virgin, so it may be their database has been hacked.

I received a call from this number after 9 p.m. one evening. The caller claimed to be Richard Branson from Virgin Media. He said that if I put down £100 deposit now I will be able to take my first flight to Mars at half price. I didn't know Mr Branson was involved with any Martian project. I asked him when this would happen and he advised it would be on 22nd March 2043, departing 22:05 from the Leicester Space Centre. As this date will be two days shy of my 100th birthday I declined for possible unforeseen medical reasons. I suspect I might not be covered for medical insurance if I were to take ill halfway to Mars. He couldn't even guarantee what medical support I would get on the red planet nor if I would still be covered by the NHS. I advise anyone who gets such a call to decline.

The thought of Virgin Media giving money back to anyone is so laughable it has got to be a scam.

There are 20 pages of posts about this number and they seem to imply that it is either Virgin Media or someone working on their behalf. However, to be on the safe side do not give them your password.  Ask them to tell you what number they have and you will tell them if it is correct.  if they are reluctant to do this, tell them you will contact Virgin Media with their details and see if VM can tell you what it is about.

Supposed to be Virgin Media but couldn't give any account details whatsoever. Can't believe they'd be so unprofessional...whiffs of scam. Number blocked.

An Asian sounding lady rang me Saturday 15th October, said she was from Virgin Media, asked questions about my account, being wary I declined and advised that my husband deals with all this and he doesn't live with me. She said I must know how it is paid, bank account, direct debit etc. Told her he works abroad and I can't contact him, had some abusive muttering, but she insists she will call back Monday. Some hope

We are customers of VM but my husband is the sole account holder. We had reported this number last week to Virgin and they confirmed that it wasn't them. I mentioned this afternoon to another caller from this number that he was committing an offence by calling, as we are registered with TPS, but he didn't seem bothered and just carried on saying it was a computer generated call
