When my midwife phones me it comes up with this number, im in inverness so it must be a widely used number throughout the nhs in scotland

i got one just a little while ago, it was a recorded message from the NHS, BUT it asked me to type in my date of birth on the keypad!!!

why should i have to type in my date of birth? what happens if another member of the family answers and dont know my date of birth anyway? or my inititial thougts were 'SCAM'!!!

Do not give anyone calling from this no information. It is not an NHS no, it is someone trying to obtain peoples details illegally. It's prob a debt collection company or finance company. It is nothing to do with NHS!

The reason why someone from the NHS wouldn't leave even a brief message is to do with patient confidentiality.  A patient may conceivably want to keep certain information private from other members of their own family and leaving a message asking for so-and-so to call such-and-such clinic or department would be a breach of confidentiality.  My advice would be to answer the damn phone and then decide if you want to carry on the conversation.

Also, why don't people read what's been said before, would save pages and pages of messages saying "Who is this" and "This is x Hospital". Just read the words, with your eyes.

Am in Fife and this number came up when my daughters consultant at the local hospital phoned. It's definitely an NHS number, for those people worried. :)

Got call from this number and asked for me then hung up don't know who it is

Ive been getting calls from this number since 8am - 12:30. Every time i answer no one speaks and i here some beep noise and nothing happens. According to this thread it seems to be someone calling from the NHS but none of us have a hospital appointment or what so ever. Its so annoying because my house phone has been constantly ringing every 10 mins since 8am.

Yep, it's the NHS generic number for outgoing calls - doesn't receive incoming. If you're expecting a call from a health professional, that's the likely source or wait til they call back/leave a message next time.

This is a generic NHS number, in my case it was my GP making a home emergency call. It does not accept incoming calls.

I just had a missed call on the works phone and I live in buckie.........not a number I registered with Grampian NHS, only my mobile number.......very strange!!!

Received 6 calls today already from this number - each time I answer the caller hangs up. Calls are not to a personal number but my office, so can't see it being NHS

this number 08006783393 has just phoned me and when i answerd it they just keep quite and then hung up on me and i dont knw who it is or how they got my number and i just want tae knw who there are

I missed this call yesterday and again today. Unusual as it looked like a freephone number. On the third call I answered the number. It turned out to be the school nurse asking if he had recently received a tetanus jag as he was due one. So yeah answer it it could be important.
