I have changed banks now.  All the mistakes and errors that HSBC have made and the mess they have made of my account was laughed at by my new bank and what a suprise to be told Oh another ex customer of hsbc with a big problem.
The BIG problem that they created was not a problem with the new bank.  Starnge that is isn't it. Not really as the new bank could see exactly what they had been playing at.  They saw the proof and letters from hsbc and I didn't need to hide anything from them.

Well, in reply to the person that has just joined the hsbc (pg 10) Good luck! and no I haven't gone to Barclays, but someone far better who knows how to deal with customers in a friendly none biased way, whatever the problem.   You are new to hsbc....... wait till you have been with them for a few years then things will change.      Having banked with them for well over 15 years and being treated in this manner( especially as it has all happened through there errors and bad/lack of communication between departments) I am glad that I no longer have to deal with them and good ridence to bad rubbish.  I just wish I had done it sooner as the relief is unbelievable, but finding this site finally helped me to make my mind up.  Here's to my future with my new bank and up yours HSBC. Biggest bunch of idiots.  At least the phone calls have stopped now for the time being after a verbal argument with a supervisor.  Will not hold my breath though even though ive changed banks.

This guy with an accent I couldn't place and an unenviable command of the English language called from this number claiming to be from ‘the Bank’.  I assumed it was a scam; but I was bored and decided to have a little fun.  The conversation went a little like this.
    Me:  Hello.
Quarter-Wit:  Is that Mr … (he used my full name)?
    Me:  Yes.
    Quarter-Wit:  [indecipherable noise]…bank charges?
    Me:  Sorry?
    Quarter-Wit:  [indecipherable noise]…bank charges?
Me:  I’m not sure what you mean – I don’t have any bank charges.
    Quarter-Wit:  [indecipherable noise]…bank charges?
Me:  Is this about my Nat West account?
    Quarter-Wit:  Yes.
    Me:  I don’t bank with Nat West, I suggest you hang-up now…
After a short pause, the line went very quiet.  I do bank with HSBC.  I ‘googled’ this number, and found this excellent thread, because I have received (but not answered) more calls from this number in the last few days.  I shall make my misgivings clear to HSBC and the relevant authorities.  The Long, the Short and the Tall:  don’t speak to these people!

Missed a couple of calls from this number during the day, then they called me at home this evening (out of hours), claiming to be HSBC and asking that I give my DOB to confirm who I was. I politley tried to explain that I was not prepared to do that. I explained that I would be happy to set up a password to help facilitate these calls, but the guy just kept saying that all he needed was the month and year of my birth. I then said that if he gave me a number I would call them back, but he would not do that.
When I said I was not prepared to carry on with the call he said "I have to make you aware that as you have not been prepared to continue with the call, you will be called again until you do"
I then called the customer services number (from a different line) and the lady was very helpful, she could advise that she could see from her records that outgoing calls had been made to me today, but could not tell me why, BUT gave me a number to call. When I did so the issue was resolved in less than 60 seconds!!

An obvious scam. Some of the comments on this page (for instance James 31st January) claiming that the callers are legitimate are false and should not be treated as correct. Calls from unidentified persons asking for security details are to be ignored - real banks write.

In reply to arr.  posted 2nd June. These telephone calls are not a scam. They are genuine from the HSBC bank unfortunately, and I have taken this matter further up the chain than HSBC. Trouble is you can't understand what the people are saying and as I have commented on before they are robots reading from a computer screen and don't know how to have a conversation.

You are correct in statng that real banks write to you, but then again this is the HSBC that we are talking about and they certainly aren't a real bank.
They are a bank with problems, that make big mistakes and errors and don't deserve customers.

I received a missed call on my mobile today from this number. I have no intention of phoning back.
I was once harrassed by a caller claiming to be from HSBC and requesting personal details before the lady would tell me what it was all about. I refused to part with any information and she got quite cross and was rude when I told her to write to me.
I complained in person to the manager of my local HSBC branch who told me I was right not to give away my personal details to a random caller and he confirmed that if it was very important, then HSBC would indeed write to me.
Since then, I never answer my mobile phone to anyone unless I recognise the number. If it is a genuine call, the person will always leave a message.
That being said, the caller can claim to be from anywhere and leave a bogus number for you to call back on.
There have been plenty of programs on the TV, 'The Real Hustle' for one, illustrating how scam artists trick you into believing they are real call centres, E.g. placing you on hold in a "queue", background office noise tape playing, etc.
If the caller and the matter are genuine, the company WILL write to you. BEWARE!

So glad i found this. Ive been getting calls from these for the last couple of days now. Exactly the same as eveyone else, some indian asks me to confirm my DOB and I ask what for, they say we cant tell you what for until I give my DOB so I tell them no way and they tell me to call 08457404404 and quote some ref number. Just checked my balance and i have nothing owing on my credit card and am not overdrawn so dont know what the problem is as I have nothing suspicious on my statments. If i get more calls from them i will get very arsy on the phone and will switch my account from HSBC.

I would just like to say that I did change to another bank and now don't have a problem.   Forwarded a harassment warning letter to HSBC and it seems to have done the trick.  They keep sending letters in the post but I just ignore them.    I am with a new PROPER Bank.   To think that I had banked with these fools for over 20 yrs. Well it ended on a sour note and I haven't looked back since.     Good ridance to bad rubbish.      It is also interesting that quiet a lot of people of had enough of this bank and have swapped to some one else.  I feel sorry for some of the branch staff as they have to bear the brunt of peoples complaints.

Hsbc let me tell you all about them in a short sentence

Has a business owner and manager we joined the hsbc and thought it would help us of the ground our business manager came to see us on one occasion to set things up and running that was the very last we herd of her 10 months went by we decided to contact the bank for some investment no was the answer to that so we approached another high street bank mentioning no names oh well go on then bank of scotland who opened up there arms for us to join now we have with there help just turned over 1.1 million in just under 15 months.

Then it all started hsbc always on the phone clogging all my internet lines up and bombarding me with we can do this that and the other and all from a call center in india from all sorts of numbers and this one mostly.

I had had enough i sent all the evidence to our legal dept that was the last we herd of them

I have recently complained to them about the repeated missed calls from the number. Is not me be being slow, but 1/2 a second to answer the call just isn't possible, shy of clutching onto my phone for 24 hours a day.

My assistant manager used to work for Capital One, and all call centres do this. They have call quotas to hit, so more often than not, they ring and hang up and this shows on their systems that a call has been attempted and failed. This kicks your number to the back of the line for some other non-english speaking unhelpful advisor to do the same with. Absolutely out of line! No pun intended...

HSBC are getting more and more useless and devious. Absolute crettins.(don't even get me started with bank charges!!).
