Report a phone call from 08007838422 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- RuthHave just had a missed call on my work phone from this number whilst at the same time I had a missed call on my mobile from
0161 9519923
As always, no message is left. The number that called my mobile is similar to 0161 9519926 which I posted above (which I thought was linked to 0800 7838422) so they are obviously trying to call both numbers at the same time in the hope that one of the calls will be answered!
Sorry HSBC but you'll have to write me a letter if it's that important instead of ringing me several times a day...- Caller: Unsure
- LindsayI have been rung by 08007838422 twice today, the first time was an Indian sounding woman, who said she was from HSBC, and straightaway asked for my security code. I asked if she could verify who she was, and she gave me her date of birth!! I asked how that was meant to help me verify she was calling from HSBC, and she ignored that and carried on asking me for my security details. Hung up on her eventually, got bored of the "Verify yourself! No, YOU verify yourself!" conversation.
They rang again in the afternoon and even after waiting for a line to connect (there can be a delay with foreign call centres) no one spoke.
If HSBC are so bothered, and you have a genuine problem, they should contact you in writing.- Caller: HSBC
- anonThe hsbc are loosing customers because of their attitude problems and couldn't care less drop you in it tactics. They can't even agree with the oft that they are over charging with their bank fees etc. My god they think they are whiter than white and know better than the OFT. Doesn't that tell you something. Also beware if you have an hsbc Insurance policy for your house and contents as this is a Rip Off. When you need to make a claim for something oohh what a suprise....... you ain't covered for what you requested and paid for as I have just found out to my cost. But never mind the HSBC are making loads at my expense. Listening bank ha ha. Local bank ha ha.
Just wish I could break every last tie with this crap bank but they keep lingering like an obnoxious bad smell. Just wish every one who's fed up with them would move banks. That would teach them, but they are losing custom (hope the trend continues) There are far better LISTENING HELPFUL BANKS.- Caller: HSBC Hipocrits
- HattieI actually answered the phone to this number because being a Sunday afternoon I thought it would be friends or family calling. No such luck, just a man claiming to be from HSBC and asking for Mrs.... Told him that I would never give personal information over the phone, that I didn't bank with HSBC and that whoever he wanted didn't live here. He said that if I confirmed who I was then he would remove the number from their list. I pointed out, again, that I didn't give personal information over the phone and did he seriously expect people to be so stupid. I also said that it was a Sunday, so why was he phoning on a weekend. He more or less ignored me and we had one of those 'let's go round in circles' conversations before I just put the phone down. If this really is HSBC then I think this is a really bad way to try to contact customers, especially in times when telephone scamming is rife, but HSBC obviously consider themselves above Customer Care. No one should receive calls asking for personal information even if the caller is genuine, because it is just too easy for scammers to take advantage of.
- SarahI have been called several times in the past from this number and each time it has been from HSBC. I must admit the first few times i stupidly gave my details without even thinking, however once security had been confirmed the call was a genuine hsbc one. It is from their credit control department. I think they just have automatic calls because when you answer it kind of pauses for a couple of second before they say Hello then do security in case they have rang the wrong person, but i don't think i have ever been asked my security code. Once the call has been dealt with however i have had several more calls from them, some of which i have ignored and some of which i have answered. When i have ignored them, i just get repeatedly called at random intervals (usually about three times a day though) and when i do answer i have to go through pretty much the exact same thing. It's as though you don't taken of their list of people who need contacting.
At this moment in time i have been rang about 17 times in the past week or so even though i sorted the problem out 2 weeks ago. I have old them repeatedly that i have sorted it out but they still go through the same speech and ask if i have any other contact details (they only have my mobile number as i asked them to remove my landline number over a year ago as they used to call that equally as much). I have been told a few times that they have a new system and they are having problems with it, but sometimes they do not mention it and one even just hung up.
Today i have been rang twice again. I hung up and rang the general HSBC customer services number. After explaining to one member of staff, i got transferred where a man told me that he would contact the credit department and try and sort it out so the calls stopped. I haven't heard back from them and i haven't been rang by the other number since, but that was only about two hours ago so fingers crossed.
Even though it is a legitimate call i hate hte way i am being pestered so much by them. Not good customer service at all.- Caller: HSBC
- Not happyWhere do these people get off trying to trick people into believing they are from HSBC Bank! Get a life / proper job why dont they!
- HattieJudging by the number of comments posted both on this site and many others available, isn't it about time that someone from HSBC came forward to confirm whether or not this number/calls are legit? Even if they put a confirmation notice on their website explaining that 08007 838422 is indeed their number, and that you may be called from it for XYZ reasons, it would certainly help to clear up a few misunderstandings. If it isn't them calling then more people would be aware that a possible scam is in progress. You can't tell me that HSBC are not aware of the 'problems' these calls are causing - they only have to read all the comments on here, but maybe the Top Dogs think that spot of annoyance and frustration, whoever it is generated by, makes the world go around.
- Caller: HSBC?
- zamirkeep recieving calls from 08007838422
- EMMA FOSTERThey have rang me several times over the past 4 days! its getting rediculous they either dont sepak and hang up or they ask for someone and then say they are having software problems and will call me back....

- NickyI have been having loads of call off this number, all through the day and night !!
I have normally ignored the calls becuase i checked the number on the internet and this site came up so i thought it was a scam, but i got so fed up that this afternoon i answered it. A lady came on the phone and said she was from HSBC and needed my post-code and my DOB !
I refused to give this information and told them that i thought this was a scam and if they wanted to contact me they would have to write to me and id be more than happy to call them back on a known HSBC number !!
She said ok then put the phone down !!
2 hours later the same number came up on caller id, so i answered and this time it was a man, he said he was from HSBC and asked for the same information. i again refused and explained that i thought that this was a scam and that i wanted them to write to me on letter headed paper and then id be more than happy to give them my information.
He then went on to say that he couldnt write to me as this was a matter that needed to be discussed over the phone , i again said no and said i was going to go into my HSBC branch and see what the problem was, he said i couldnt do that because the matter had to be discussed ver the phone !!
He then gave me another 'HSBC' phone number to call and said i could call that and discuss it !!
I have written this number into google and again it has come up with a site like this saying that the number is a scam !!- Caller: HSBC
- SunbeamI was phoned by a woman calling herself Shanaz and saying she was from HSBC at 8.46am this morning. She told me that I needed to answer some security questions before she could go any further and asked me for my date of birth. I know that HSBC aren't supposed to call before 9am so I told her I wasn't answering any questions and hung up. So far she hasn't rung back and hopefully she won't.

- SarahContinuing from the 18th of August, i have still been rang twice a day. As i had been advised by HSBC customer service not to give out any security details, i asked the department that had called me. Apparently they couldn't tell me this until i had confirmed part of my d.o.b and address. I wouldn't do this so i eventually ended the call. Same thing has happened again today (i have ignored all their calls for the past week as i have been on holiday). I hung up and rang customer services immediately. The lady i then spoke to was really nice but couldn't really help me at all, saying there was a memo on my account but it hadn't "been filed" yet. She said this would take up to 10 working days. The problem is that HSBC apparently can't tell me if this is a genuine number because they don't have a record of all their outgoing call centre numbers. I have rang my mobile provider but they are unable to bar numbers so they adv. that the only people to speak to really would be my local police as it sounded like i was getting nuisance calls. Going to start writing a call log (stupid phone doersn't remember every time it rang, just the most recent), report to the police then probably leave HSBC. Can't believe how long this is going on, especially as they made nearly £100 worth of charges out of the thing they were ringing me about in the first place.

- lornaThis has happened to me before. Had a phone call from 'HSBC' and they asked for an awful lot of information before being able to tell me what the problem was with my account. In the end I refused to give any further information and went into my branch the following day. I gave them the phone number which I had been called from and the verified that it was a legitamate HSBC number although they could not find anything wrong with my account which would have resulted in me being contacted. Now if I ever get a call from 'HSBC' I refuse to give any information and visit my brnach instead.
- Layla WilliamsCalling me 3+ times per day for the last week.
- claireKeep recieving dodgy calls off a american sounding man and a foreign lady from this number claiming to be HSBC they are constantly ringing my mobile and landline so I've answered a few times and still refuse to give my details over to a total stranger. Still getting missed calls off this number though now i refuse to answer the calls. After being threatened that they would continue to ring me until i gave them what they wanted ive figured out if they are the geninue deal and are really HSBC and not a scam than its no longer a bank that I want to be with and I will change as soon as possible.
- DonnaI keep getting these phone calls, i cut them off but they just keep ringing and ringing, i am seriously thinking about going with another banking company, i would not have known about this, but they have tried phoning me doezens of times today so i thought i'd google search the number and found this site, i am going to phone hsbc and make a complaint, i am not overdrawn, i dont have a loan or anythink so y are they bombarding me with phone calls

- gemmaThese people ask me straight away my name and DOB- there is no way that I'm gonna give this info to people who I don't know. They claim to be HSBC but always have foreign accents and demand my DOB straight away which I refuse to give them. Can some1 please verify who these people are? If they are HSBC I am definately gonna close the account as I have recieved phone calls everyday for the past week, this is harrassment!
- Caller: ???
- HattieOh for goodness sake, they have started calling again... I have just had to come down from the attic to answer the phone only to find it was them - and yes I refused to give the American sounding man any information. I just hung up. From reading all the comments on this site, it would appear that there is always either 'an American sounding male' or 'a foreign sounding woman'. Perhaps they only employ two people in this particular call centre. Why do HSBC not step forward to clear up this matter, surely they must read sites like this one and can see what effect this harassment is having on their customers? If I was one of their call centre workers making these calls I would be reporting back that a lot of people are thinking that it is a scam. But ho hum, pigs might fly before HSBC find a better way of contacting their customers. (If the number does belong to HSBC that is.)
- Caller: HSBC??
- SuperAnonymousGot a call at 9:30 AM from this number. Went here then called HSBC's number on the back of my card and they connected me to the fraud alert department who wanted to know if a charge was legitimate. It was.
Make no mistake, people, "fraud alert" has nothing to do with protecting you. It is all about HSBC protecting themselves. I get a pointless call from them once a month, usually when I am travelling. It's an enormous inconvenience and costs me a lot in international roaming calls.
I hate this practice. Why don't they email me, ask me to log into the HSBC website and take care of it there. Then I would know it's really them.
I am switching banks as soon as I can find a good one.- Caller: HSBC
- JackJust checked my phone and I had a missed call from them about half an hour ago... My flatmate gets called 3 times a week by them...
