I have received many calls both asking for information that I am unwilling to give and also silent calls. Another UK bank asks you to call them back on their widely published numbers (e.g. on the cheque book) and then to ask for the operator who gave their name when they called you. A much better system. Barclays bank were fined 50,000 UKP recently for silent calls.

I have just reported these nuisance calls to the UK Financial ombudsman and Ofcom who are the UK telephone regulator. I would urge others to do the same and copy the email to HSBC.

    UK Financial Ombudsman  info@financial-ombudsman.org.uk
    HSBC                    servicequality@hsbc.com

I am now going to contact Ofcom which regulates nuisance and / or silent calls.

Getting 1-3 calls per day from this number on my mobile. When I answer I never get a response.

It's very bad practice to call and interrupt a customers day and not speak to them.

I'm going to try and find the mobile numbers of HSBC staff and bug them while they're at work.

I have had calls from the number 08007838422, relating to my bussiness account, and was asking security questions. And they told me it was a call to make I want to keep the account as I havent had money paid in or out in a while, and they said this was a bussiness customer service number, but I also have got calls from the same number asking about my current account. But ive been told its different departments that calls about bussiness or personal. So shouldnt they have different numbers?

I get calls from this number, answered the last one, someone from HSBC, only wanted my DOB (strange they don't ask for security number digits or mothers maiden name or something)anyway fairly sure they are as it was about my overlimit card. Bascially it is HSBC, and you probably have an account issue if this number calls. But they clearly don't speak to each other as I had the same conversation with someone from HSBC about a week ago and this girl kept going over the same things. Just told her this is work phone so she changed that not to be primary. They start with landlines though as they are cheaper.
tell them to use another phone, and if that doesn't work and you get repeated calls (which you will until you answer one) then Advise them harrassing calls are in breach of the Administration of Justice act, section 40.

I keep getting this number calling me too, sometimes can be up to 10 times a day starting from a early as 8 - 8.30 in the morning and also saturdays and sundays too! Refuse to answer now i know but they just dont seem to get the message do they. If its HSBC im not at all happy with them and after 20 plus years of banking with them if they havent the decency to send personal letters to my address instead of getting some call centre to hound me with calls , its no wonder that there having problems like they are in the world at the moment. Im really angry about this.

If this is HSBC it does an otherwise good bank  a real dis service, I have told them to send me a letter, yet to be recieved after a week! Several numbers at all times. Rude staff and a strange expectance from us to hand over confidential details without telling us what for! Very shoddy...

I've been getting alot of missed calls from this number on my mobile and house phone.   It's been annoying me so much that I finally answered it today.   It was HSBC.   That wanted to let me know that a direct debit had not gone through and i was overdrawn.   They knew all my details without me telling them so it must have been them.

This number phones everyday at least 2/3 times a day.  My son has answered the phone a couple of times but got no answer at the other end.  I have had previous dealings with this number and have got very annoyed with the person on the other end.  I know it is a call centre in India and half the time they tell you details they also are very rude and with their accents very hard to understand and they also do not understand what we say.  It is about time the local branches are easily contactable and that the local branch communicates with us customers.  I have spoken recently to my local branch and they are all fed up with this system also, but the instruction if from those a lot higher up!  I know how these centres work as I once worked for a company that used an Indian call centre and they are taught to ask specific questions and anything outside of the box they cannot understand or relate to.  They don't want to you your specific circumstances because they do not understand them and they are not allowed the think outside of specific questions.

    In credit HSBC customer
Call from them at 8.13 this morning.. Indian woman (though her English was good and I did understand her).. told her to please call me back later as I was about to leave the house to go to work and she kept on asking for my DOB and telling me it was important and would only take 2 mins.

I'd told her three times to call me back later as I was in a hurry and she didn't listen so I just hung up.

They've got NO BUSINESS calling me as my account is a long way in credit, I don't owe any credit card payments and there have been no suspicious transactions on my account - I checked my online banking as soon as I got to work.

So it's not just debtors that they're hassling.

If she calls me back.. GRR!
