Report a phone call from 08007838422 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- GeorgieMy approach with these calls is to pick up the phone and say 'hello' - if there is any slight delay I put the phone down. If it is important they will surely phone back straight away
- GuestI'm so happy I found this forum. I also have received several missed calls from this number. Today they actually called when I was available, so I answered. Someone (English) from HSBC asking for personal information. Like all the other anecdotes here, the call centre woman told me that she could not tell me WHY she was calling until I gave her my postcode and then some more info to proove my identity. I refused and she told me that I then needed to go online and change my account settings to state that i refuse to be contacted via telephone. i have not rung the bank to make sure this is truly HSBC, but if it is I am going to consider closing my account. In this day and age it is simply ridculous for a bank to contact a customer on a mobile via an 0800 number and begin the conversation with 'hi, I'm from your bank - confirm your name and give me all your postcode, dob, and password before I tell you why I am calling'.
- Pollythey just 1 ring me constantly - are they expecting me to call back?????????????? why don't they just wait until i answer the phone, grrrrrrr :-(
- Caller: apparently hsbc
- kathrynI have had calls from this number too, and after seeing it was HSBC, am glad I did not answer cos I know exactly what they are after!
Although my HSBC account is still open, I do not use it, I have recently changed to NatWest, I am with a debt management company and because one of my debts is with HSBC i was advised not to use the account anymore, so I dont, its open for the sole purpose of my debt management company to make payments into, and cos I havent paid anything towards the HSBC debt as of me signing up to debt management, as I was told I do not need to pay them direct anymore, they are being all arsey while they are awaiting my first payment from debt management, am fed up of going round in circles with Indian call centres, had been with HSBC for 11 years and had very rubbish service from them so I refuse to deal with them now! - peteThey often give me miss calls. They would literally ring for half a second and then hang up. quite annoying!
- neili have been having these calls up to 15 times a day from HSBC in work and at home,i have written them a letter to say leave me alone and threatened them with an harrasment case but they are really not interested, they just want their money,i explained to them that my wife who has just been diagnosed with a life threatening heart condition, they just dont give a hoot.
- Caller: HSBC
- TomThis number has called me 7 times today already and its not for the first time. I think its absolutly rediculous how they hound your phone calling all throughout the day to find out when you can give them money they want from you.
You can't understand a word the person on the phone is saying and everytime you answer their question they just keep repeating the question over and over untill they get the answer they require or you tell them to [***] off.
I've always thought HSBC were one of the better banks,
but I was wrong.- Caller: HSBC
- eikoYes it's been happening to me too - something like hourly for the last couple of days. Am relieved at least to hear it's not only me who's experiencing this ...
- Caller: 'HSBC'
- dApparently it IS an official HSBC number. However, after complaining to HSBC about the 30+ calls in one day and getting nowhere I decided on a simple solution. Go into your branch, log in to your online account, or call an HSBC support number... and change your phone number! The calls stopped immediately. If HSBC REALLY need to contact you, they'll put it in writing to your address.
- SarahI got fed up after being threatened that if I didn't comply and give out personal details on the phone these calls would not stop. So I went into an HSBC branch, got a staff member to lodge a complaint for me and remove my phone number from their records. Also, hilariously the number rang while I was talking to someone in the branch, so I gave her the phone, and the bloke on the other end even got a bit funny with her! I dunno what they're playing at but I now know that the reason they were harassing me is because I haven't been depositing any money recently and I was overdrawn - WITHIN my agreed limit which I have had for 4 years! Plus I have a student account so I thought they would understand it wouldn't have a regular salary going into it, but obviously not. I was then, in the branch quizzed about my 'future plans', I said I didn't think it was their business, but the woman I spoke to insisted it was. It may be their business to know about my money, but not my own personal plans. The bank could have contacted me politely and voiced their concern about my lack of funds, but no, they chose to harass me instead. So I'm paying off my overdraft and closing the account, even though the phone calls have stopped, I'm not going to stay with a bank that has treated me so unbelievably badly. Other people shouldn't stand for it either, but first go into a branch and confront them about it to find out what is actually going on because believe me you won't get ANY help from them over the phone.

- RozannaI have been getting calls from this number and one other 0800 no. for the last 2 weeks, this one claims to be HSBC and the other MBNA.
I used to bank with HSBC (14 years) but had no end of problems with them the last straw was when a member of staff actually called me a liar to my face! I of course closed the account then and there.
I stupidly applied for a credit card with them a few months ago and am regretting it already.
I never answer 0800 numbers just because you can pretty much guarantee that they will be trying to sell you something.
But I find it very suspicious that the two nos. started calling me on the same day and have been harassing me ever since at least 5 to 6 times a day.- Caller: HSBC
- VickieI bank with HSBC but have not answered this call when its come thorugh as all my banking is online, glad i found this website, i wont be answering it. Havent had much luck with HSBC
- Jamiei just got called by this number, and they were asking for my mother, so i said she wasn't in and they asked when they could ring back, so i told them a few hours and yeah. If the call centre is in india, and only american and indian people are talking, then how come the person calling me had a welsh accent? She was definitely british i could tell, so just to let you know it isn't just american or indian people calling you up. Whether it's a scam or not, well i'll just have to wait and see. They didn't even say they were from HSBC..definitely confusing.
- Caller: Didn't say.
- SarahIt's NOT a scam, that is what makes it so unbelievable! I've been in the branch speaking to them on that number and having someone in the branch ring that number. I know people say they understandably don't answer the phone and just keep ignoring it but I found it too annoying to ignore. Go into a branch or get your phone number removed, cos in my experience the harassment won't stop until you do.
- alunhave had three missed calls from this number in last two days. i phoned HSBC enquiry number and got Indian call centre. I asked if it was a genuine HSBC number, and was told there were many 0800 numbers, but she would phone the number and find who it was from. Yes you've guessed it, she got the same recorded message i received - "this is HSBC no need to call back". She did not know the department it was from, but the message said it was HSBC. Yes well anyone can record that! So i'm none the wiser, but if its important maybe they'll call after work.
- Caller: HSBC

- HLLI am receiving same calls, saying they are HSBC, and want my details over the phone before they say what the call is about.
So I say I am busy, because I dont want to give my details to them.
The last caller said that it was not important, they will ring again later to tell the "information".
If it is not important, they should be able to say without asking my details.
I dont expect them to say matter in detail, I just want to learn what the call is about !!
After that call, I went to HSBC, to ask if there is a problem. They said there is no record that I have been called.. They would have a record if I was called.
And there is not new information about my account to tell..
And I had done good with not telling my details!!- Caller: claiming HSBC
