- Caller: hsbc
- caddybIt's not a scam noodles. It is HSBC. After reporting them to the Telephone Preference Service, my local HSBC branch acted very quickly and removed my number so they couldn't call me again. Just a little bit of your time will get rid of the problem.

- TxHi there -
Just been to my local HSBC branch in Manchester and brought this issue to their attention (I even printed out some of the comments from this website for the branch to see).
The lady I spoke to told me that this call IS a phishing attack and NOT coming from HSBC. As I have opted out from any sales or marketing calls from HSBC, they are not allowed to contact me in the first place and the recording you hear when you ring the 0800 number back could be recorded by anyone anywhere.
So - don't give out your security details to these people!
Regards,
Tx- Caller: Not HSBC
- LAJI got another hang-up call from this number on my machine today. Not sure what time they called as I was at work. After the update in the previous post, if I am unlucky enough to pick up when they call I will just hang up on them.
- MozzMy wife has been called by these people a few times in the past couple of weeks apparently. I heard the call tonight and insisted she cut it off, then phoned HSBC to check whether anyone had tried to call her. Apaprently, in this instance it was genuine and was about upgrading to the premier account, but with a lot of personal details asked for (and not given!). Very very bad way of promoting!
- razzzwht it is guys that the number they call on is to get money of you to put your account bk in limit but saying that they could be wrong as one lady told me that the phone numbers they have been told to call come on there screen they have no input to it.
- One Step AheadJust give the wrong DOB - if they are genuine they will tell you that they cannot continue with the call.
- JGI do believe this number is to be from HSBC.
On Friday, I rang HSBC due to problems with my account etc. After sorting this out they wanted to check contact details. They had my mobile number wrong and I gave a new work number and thought nothing else of it.
However, that Friday night and the early hours of Saturday I began getting calls from this number on my mobile. I recognised the number as HSBC but when I answered it was silent. I have been getting silent calls from another nuhmber, which I am in the process of reporting, and so then assumed it was just some more of those. They then continued to ring me the entire weekend. Every hour or sometimes every 30 mins. I ignored them again thinking it was silent calls.
However, when I came to work this morning I had a number of missed calls on my work number I had given to HSBC on Friday (a new number they had not had previously). It must therefore be HSBC as it was them I spoke to regarding my account and the only bank etc that have my work number, a number I do not give out freely.
I think it is dispicable that they are calling in this manner and it should be reported. They had no reason to ring me in the first place and continuous calls are a form of harrassment.
I have now deleted all my numbers through internet bankign and am hopeful they will not ring again.
(I also checked my details and my preferred contact method has always been by email so why they would continuously ring is beyond me). - RHargThis number is the HSBC collections department. I got fed up with this number ringing and hanging up so i called HSBC directly and found out who it was. The number is rang by a computer and that's why it sometimes rings off. They rang as i was over my overdraft limit by a tiny amount and they wanted to let me know..ever heard of snail mail? I told them how disgusted i was with their customer calls and how much like harrassment it was as when my husband answered they hung up straight away or was rude. So if you want it to stop and you have a HSBC account i suggest you ring the telephone banking direct and speak to an advisor. I had put down on my account that i only wanted to be contacted by snail mail but they didn't take any notice of this. We've reported them to telephone preference service for the lack of care and silent calls.
- If only you would listenPlain and simple -
I worked for HSBC!
This is their outbound number. You cant call in on it, as its been set up to only make outbound calls, when you call it back, you'll get a male automation message advising you that HSBC tried to call, and that we will try and contact you again.
Date of Birth is for security measures. There is nothing people can do with a DOB, so for christ sake why cant you just answer there question - thats all they ask. If you look up the Data Protection Act, you'll see that banks arent allowed to discuss anything over the phone until u can verify who you are.
Perhaps if you paid your credit cards, loan installements or didnt go Overdrawn each month, then you wouldn't recieve these calls.
HSBC are legally allowed to call you up to 5 times each day for every single product you hold.- Caller: HSBC Collections
- B.RobinsonReceived acall from 08007838422 asking to speak to somebody who has left my address and now lives elsewhere. I said this person wasn't here but as it happened when the caller called later on, he happened to "drop in" at that particular moment and spoke to him asking about his health. Is this a bogus caller or really HSBC as this is what he said in a muffled voice.?This evening
I rang the above telephone number as I presumed it is a free number (08007838422) and a tape recorded message said "No further action is required by yourself and there is no need to return the call." Most peculiar!!- Caller: HSBC

- Stan StillI have received calls from this number on me mobile telephone for the last 3 yaers and it is starting to get to me. The first time they were fine when we spoke but since, the calls have gotten more sespicious...sometimes all i can hear are deep breathings down me ear piece...I wish they would stop...the other day I was called in the bath during private time!
This has been going on for over a tenth of my life and I feel that through this website I can finally voice my disapproval. Thanks for listening.

I have an account with HSBC which I haven't used in years, I have no credit card with them, no loan, and I am not overdrawn.
So, mister or missus smarty pants, why am I getting several unwanted calls every damn day?
I only ever respond to banking issues in person or in writing. I do NOT have to give out ANY personal information just because some faceless figure is asking me to (and when you pick up the phone and someone is asking who YOU are, no wonder it seems dodgy!!)
And as for the 'HSBC are legally allowed to call you up to 5 times each day for every single product you hold.' statement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Protection From Harassment Act 1997 provides that 'a course of conduct must involve conduct on at least two occasions. (Originally these occasions needed to involve the same person, but in 2005 the act was amended by the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act so that "pursuing a course of conduct" could mean approaching two people just once.
Under this act the definition of harassment is behavior which causes alarm or distress. I think these calls may qualify in many cases.
Keep a log of calls you receive, note that time and get a name if you can, and make it very clear that you do not wish to receive further calls. As I say above, to repeatedly call you AFTER you have asked them to stop may put them in breach of this law. - defaulting customerThese numbers are from the bank and they are persistent because they are regarding missed payments and debt collection.
Once again, they do write but most people don't want to deal with it. It is a round-about way of dealing with them but what do you expect. I have barred any numbers that ask for such info from the bank.
MBNA and Halifax also have similar numbers and methods!- Caller: Bank
- MoI have been called today 3 times by this number, when I answer there is nothing, then I get a hang-up. I have also had calls all week from the same number - again when I answer there is no-one there and then I get a hang-up.
