    hello there,

i've just been called from this number this morning! and fortunately didnt pick up the phone. And luckily i've found the number through this website and been reading it all the threads.

Anyhow, i called the number back using 1410800... from my line number and yes it was from HSBC. The automated machine answered the called and said 'you were called by HSBC Bank, there are no further action taken or need to return the call' then the line disconnected!

hmm.. wondering what it was really about... although i just opened a new account with HSBC few days ago and haven't been using the card once! hope it was not scam calls...

    Hello,

I think its fairly obvious when you are called by a bank or financial institution, to provide some basic details like postcode (durr its in the phonebook) and DOB which i mean is hardly gonna give someone access to all your accounts. When you have answered these ask them then to confirm some information as there is then no reason why they shouldnt. Im pretty sure (almost positive) that someone knowing your postcode and DOB cannot open up multiple credit cards and rinse your account as you need ID, bills, passport anyways. I would have guessed its to make sure they have contacted the right person on the right number. Also it falls in line with the strict data protection act and code of practice. I mean imagine if they went straight into a call without asking basic simple information and started talking about your account to someone who you sold the phone 2 or the last few digits of the phone number were wrong. Its when they start asking for PIN numbers as know one else, not even the police or army are allowed to know this (read the small print). Fair do's if they keep calling you when you have told them not to, but people are well scared to even tell someone there name these days without thinking they have just taken a loan out in it.

Remember: Never fill out e-mails requesting your bank details saying the bank has lost them/miss placed them/update info as no bank is that [***] that they have lost them. And this is actually a scam and is called phishing. If you have filled one out then you will get a call.

[***] [***] ring me constantly. And it's always the same American/Indian accented [***]. You have to pay this, you have to pay that - I KNOW how much I have to pay you [***], so give me a [***] break!!

I am getting about 10 calls per day from this number, both on my landline and my mobile. I have been through periods of not answering, and then answering. When answered the call is often hung up. I have read that these calls are computer generated and once you answer, the call centre is called. If no-one is available to answer, the call is ended, which accounts for the silent treatment mentioned by posters earlier.
I have just had a call from the call centre while reading this message forum! I asked for the callers name (as she was asking me to verify who I was). I persisted and eventually got the name Ellen Manpes. I told her that I viewed calls from this number to be nuisance calls, and I would report HSBC for harassment. I told her that in future to contact me by post only. She said it would not stop the calls coming from this number. I then told her in that case I would be closing my account with HSBC.
Perhaps this is the only way to make these so-called 'local' global corporations sit up and take notice. If enough people who complain here, spread the word to all their friends and colleagues, who in turn did the same, and walked away from HSBC, it may give them something to think about. If people don't vote with their feet, I am sure that this type of customer services will sadly become the norm - and we can all expect more harassment by phone to inevitably follow.

    Fed up!
I have been getting calls from 8.10am - 8.15pm non-stop since last Thursday, I know why.....I am £100 overdrawn (whoopy woo)!  I did speak to the Indian call centre last Thursday afternoon to give my debit card details from another bank account in order to clear my £100 debt, the guy did not understand a word I said!  I am now going to my local branch to pay in £100 cash in the hope that the calls will stop, I am also going to be complaining loudly at the counter about these overseas harassment calls, in the hope that other customers will over hear and support me.

I do have a plan to prevent further calls,  I will be telling my local branch to update my contact info with new telephone numbers...ie, my new home number will be a regional telephone complaints number, as for my mobile.....I will inform them that I no longer own my mobile number.

I will keep you updated on the results!

I have been called by this number dozens of times at home and mobile. My wife has answered many times and they won't speak to her as it is my account.

I am fed up with them and will be cancelling my contract.

I have received 2 missed calls from this number and when I googled the number i immediately got suspicious. I don't know what to think - is it a scam or genuine. If it is important enough I'm sure I would have been notified some other way which I have not. So I'm going to ignore the number from now on, especially now that I have read the above news about fraud in indian call centres. That's very worrying

Why am I receiving multiple calls from here? The one thing most agree on is that this is connected with HSBC: a bank I do not have, and never have had, an account with.

My God.  When does it stop.   6 calls today and some yesterday.  Wouldn't mind but when you speak they put the phone down.  I do not answer my phone anymore.  If it is someone I know they leave me a message and thats ok with me, as I am quiet happy to ring "Friends" back.
Sorry (not really)  HSBC Bank are on a slippery slope with their attitude. We have made repeated requests that we are not to be contacted by phone and still they do.  Oh well, apart from p*****g me off with the constant ringing I will put up with it for now. Especially as I know who it is.  Watch out HSBC call centre you might ring one day and get more than bargained for.....

08007838422  WELL! 13 calls in 3 days.  Pity they haven't got anything else better to do.  I have and fed up with the harrasment from them.  They don't get the message even when you tell them that they have got the wrong number.  They don't leave messages and they don't like to speak.  When they do speak you can't understand half of what they say and they certainly don't understand us.  When I asked if they had my permission to ring was told that they have my permission.  OOHH  I DON'T THINK SO.  sorry but they don't have my permission.  BIG MISTAKE.  Will definatley be making a complaint.

08007838422.  Here we go again.  Made a complaint yesterday to HSBC.  Told the guy on the phone NOT to ring me again and guess what!  The calls have started again this morning.  Pointless complaining is it not. My patience has just been pushed beyond the apology stage now.  Keep the messages coming on this site.  I am taking this further.  Watch out call centre. Wait and see what you get next.  Do they not understand the word HARRASMENT.

I always get called from this number. It is HSBC however everytime they call me its just to moan about when I am overdrawn. They can't speak english and there is a delay from when you answer the phone to when they speak. I can't understand them, and vice versa. What really sickens me is that thay are the ones calling me yet they ask me personal details and to confirm personal data. I have now refused to discuss my banking with them due to this. Infact I wont answer the phone now. They can write as I am sick to the back teeth of them They are too fond to get you in debt yet pester you endlessly with people who don't even know why they have called you in the first instance. I have now changed banks leaving them with no choice but to accept my pledge to pay minimum payments on all my debts with them. Thats after 22 years of banking with them.
What a loads of cobblers they are!

Put your phone on silent if your going through a spate of them. What can they do? Take me to court for not answering my phone. I am actually thinking of changing my number now. IT IS HARASSMENT !
Please keep these messages on the go as it does need to be stopped and if we all prove that we are sick of it we may get somewhere. Has anyone else boycotted HSBC for another bank or thinking of doing so?

I have begun receiving calls from this number.  I do not have an HSBC account (or any type of HSBC card) and so it'll be very interesting to know why they're ringing me. Also, I'm a textphone user and only know who they were because my husband rang the number back to hear their message.  We use a multi-phone (both text and voice) but, next time I see this number I'm going to put on the automatic message which says 'this is a textphone, unless you are using another textphone your call cannot be connected'!

Why on earth are they ringing us?  We don't have accounts with HSBC so what earthly reason can they have?

    Grrr.
