Guy called about my power switch wanting to talk about the reasons and asking me for address and account details. Of course I declined and he rung off straight away. Very unprofessional.

Would juse like you to know I work for the department who has been calling you. At the end of the day, why shouldnt we call customers who are leaving. 30% of the time, customers are absolutely unaware that they are being transfered to another supplier. If this happened to you and we didn't call you to inform you of this, I imagine you would not be best pleased. At the end of the day, if you dont want to be called, dont supply us with your phone number. You will have been asked when you signed over to Eon if we can contact you with regards to other products and services, and obviously you agreed to this.

hello i just wanted to say something, i had 5 calls from eon and when i did call them back they told me that i was moveing to npower, i never said that i wanted to move and they sorted it out for me. if it wasnt for them i would be with npower and no nothing about this. i understand that you have had calls from eon and that you are not happy with tem but come on posting comments on here b**ching about then just call them and tell them to stop and im sure they will. i have no problems with eon and will stay with them for many more years as im sure other peope will too. after all you are a samll group of peopel who have had this problem and there is no need to be so childish

I called them back and it was E.On telling me that they had a tariff that was guaranteed to be lower than my new supplier. I said that it was unfortunate that they had not come up with this information when I contacted them asking about their rates in the first place. I also made the point that I did not believe their 'guarantee' as I could not see them following if my new supplier halved their prices. They would make some excuse so the guarantee is, in fact, worthless.

I'm also leaving E.On as they are horrendously expensive (£80 for one month's gas in a one-bedroom flat, and I only have the heater on for 4 hours a day!).  I get calls from this number every day.  They never leave a message and the one time I answered all I heard was 5 seconds of office noise before whoever it was hung up on me. If they're trying to convince me to stay with them, they're doing a terrible job!

They called me today, I wasn't near my phone.  I am with Npower (although they are rubbish!) - not sure how they (E.on) have my number!

Davis from Eon called wanting to know how I am with my new Electricty supplier. I asked that i be removed from Eons lists immediately. David said that this would be done.

Response to Mr E On (above):

Your department has been calling me on my mobile during work hours as well, but thanks to these forums I have rejected all their calls.
You should know that I never gave E.on my mobile phone number (or any other contact detail for that matter), I just moved into a new property and switched to my preferred supplier - my new supplier must have passed them my phone number.

Overlooking for a moment the fact that my new supplier is also to blame, given this fact I should have every right to go off at E.on for calling me unsolicited, especially interrupting me at work.
Oh and if 30% of customers don't know they're being switched that's their fault, you can't get switched unless you formally agree to it, otherwise it's fraud and you can get hefty compensations for it (happened to me once).

    i know
Customers do not know they are being switched sometimes, it is know as an erroneous transfer. It can happen if a supplier applies to take an incorrect property, MPAN or MPR.

It is not classed as fraud at all, and that shows how little you know about the industry Dino.

As for e.on contacting you, they do not obtain contact numbers from other suppliers. It will have been provided by you, or pehaps the letting or estate agents, and as you are a current customer and the call isnt classed as a sales call it is not unsolicited.

Oki, as everyone seems to be aware, this number comes from E.ON.

It actually originates from the call centre in the Dearne Valley area, and "Winback" is only one of the reasons you could get this call.  The number is *also* the number that appears if one of the SME telemarketers calls you to try to *sell* you gas or electric to your small business (eg if you run a shop).

If that's the case, then don't forget to check your TPS details - as TPS for businesses only lasts for a year (whereas TPS for residential phone numbers is indefinite).

With regards to 'Winback', it *is* standard practice for *any* supplier of *any* service to operate a 'you've just left us, can we persuade you to stay' process - businesses would be foolish not to; of course once your supply has been confirmed to start with the new supplier then you can't be 'won back'; these winback calls will take place once your old supplier is made aware that you're leaving and the 'window' that these calls can take place isn't that large (in the order of days rather than weeks).  So if you're adamant you wish to leave, as the only time you *should* be getting these calls is in the first few days after transfer is started, ignoring these calls isn't too much of a hassle.

    As for how they would get your number;
    * if it's a sales call then the customer data is bought from a reputable multinational data-and-credit company and TPS records are filtered out.
    * if it's a winback call then you the customer will have to have provided it somehow.  It *is* standard practice to ask for this information when someone new takes ownership of a property; regardless of *who* supplies, if you're in a property then you *are* using energy and you *do* have to pay for it, therefore energy companies are legally obliged to bill you.

Had 3 (unanswered) calls to my home line yesterday and 2 to my mobile number today.  Strange thing is I have NEVER given EON (who I get my electricity from) my mobile number.   On checking my online account they appeared to have the last 7 digits of my mobile number.

Why on earth are they calling me?  Where they get a partial mobile number from and how the hell they they get through?

    Mr Mister
"i got called by this stupid number on my mobile today (17th september 2009) and when i called it back it said that i would be charged just because i was on my mobile but i do not know what the name of the company."

That recorded message is usually from your mobile provider... not the number you are calling.... so it wont give you a company name. Also what qualifies a phone number as 'stupid'

I got a call from this number today, I assuming for retention purposes. Im at work, so I hung up. No message left.

As for Pete... what are you? Some OAP with nothing better to do? 'This dog bites' dont make me laugh.

Knowing the process it is very easy to get switched suppliers without knowing it and these calls help those people. Im sure if you politely ask them to stop calling they will, as you recieved in your e-mail.

As for supporting your meter, a quick glance at your meter number can give agents an idea what meter you may have and some providers cannot fully support some meters (for example if you have different rates for different periods or appiances, not the same as a normal economy 7 meter). British gas will still support the meter but it might not be working as you expect.

Thats half the problem, people read a couple of comments from people like you, assume you know what you are babbling on about then pass this on causing more problems than if they just ring up, speak to someone calmly and politely and get it all resolved
