I have been rung 18 times by these idiots so I sent them the following message:

I work nights and therefore try to catch up on my sleep during the day, I have to have my mobile on for emergencies in case my children's school try to call me. In the last month you have called me 18 times thus waking me up 18 times! Please could I have you home phones numbers so I can call you back at 2.30 am to discuss this matter further. Or you could stop calling me!!!!!

Thanks for this website and thanks for all the contributions. Now i know its Eon telesales I dont have to answer it. I am leaving them. They promised me they would read the meters as they know i do not have access to them. However they ring me up to bitterly complain that i have not read the meters, over estimate the electric i use and despite my accurate estimates and payments send me immediatelly to debt collecters who threaten court action to retreive money that I proved I didnt owe them. I suggest you give these ppl a wide berth. The same goes for BT and British gas who also use unscroutabble telesales people who blatently lie and transgress their own regulations to screw money out of uninformed people.

Mr Anonymous you haven't got a clue what you are on about you.
When you leave your new supplier, they will call you exactly the same. In fact any company who you are with for a utility will call and try and retain your business. It makes good business sense.

Hi everyone, I hope you guys can understand that these calls from eon are totally innocent as are other suppliers.
You will get these calls a few times during the day as they will not have an indication of when the best time is to call you unless they get that detail from you to put on your account.
They deal with customers that are leaving without notification and when you think about they tell you about a better deal when your leaving is because you don’t bother to contact them during your contract to be sure your on the best deal for your needs and comparing against your usage, payment method and current product price. When you think about leaving keep in mind that these people are there to help as allot of the public go to comparison sites and either fill in the details incorrectly or the site prevents the customer seeing the best deal from the current company they have and this is for all of you out there.

Remember if they don’t know you have a problem on your account how are they going to help you?? .
All energy companies do this so stop your moaning and be more active with your own account as this is your responsibility and if your online keep looking at what they have or call them to find out more.

i too have been having a number of niusance calls from this number and i have just called eon giving them a piece of my mind as i have a small baby in the house. we too have moved from eon to scottish power. they said they have now taken consent off our telephone number so they cannot ring our number if they do its against the law as we have not given persmission and its cold calling which we have as off on our phone system and number, will be interesting to see if we get any more calls. i asked to speak to an adviser and apparently spoke to jack brown, manager in dept of bills and sales whether or not this person actually exists if this happens again i am not going to be a nice person!!

i put a message up only 2hr ago and its still happening this time however they called, i answered and she said ooops and i thought she had hung up nope, blank noise for 45mins so i couldnt even use our phoneline, have called again and written letter of complaint this is so bad. im glad we left.

in response to happy chappy these are not innocent calls when you have told eon you are leaving and to stop the account on a certain day, given them all the details they require to stop and also asked for all details to be removed, we have been with our new compnay for 6 weeks so why call now anyway plus all our numbers are ex-directory and we have a written letter confirming they have removed our details including telephone from their records. its illegal what they are now doing :-)

It doesn't matter if you are ex directory, if you have been a custoemr of theirs and given them DPA consent to keep you up to date with products and services, which you will have, then it is perfectly legal for them to all you.

You will find if you ever leave Scottish Power, they will call you and try and "win you back" exactly the same.
I think some people on here ought to get their facts right and accept when you leave a company for a competitor they will always try and convince you to go back to them. It is good business practice. And as others have pointed out, a lot of the people who are called are not even aware they are leaving EON.

Ex directory only means your number doesn't appear in the phone book., Again shows how little you know. Also you do not have the power to tell EON what date to end your account. This is for the suppliers to decide.
Some people really should know how the industry and business works, it shows how small minded they are by idiotic comments like this.
If you don't want to be called by any company, then do not give them your phone number. Its that simple!

I have been receiving calls from this number on my home phone. When I pick up they leave me talking to myself saying hello for a while before they hang up. I have no plans to change my supplyer and its really annoying. Will calling them back do anything? Or is it likely the calls will become more frequent?

I have had this number call me over and over, I also moved into a house 3 months ago that was supplied by Eon and changed supplier not long after moving in.  After a weeks of pestering phonecalls I spoke to someone to get my number removed from their list stating it's harassment and I am not interested in changing back to them.  Calls stopped for a few of weeks but now they're at it again!

Well I called and the nice lady on the other end explained that my number was attached to someone else's account. I haven't ever been an Eon customer but have in the last 6 months changed my phone number. I did explain that I could have told them this months ago if my silent caller had actually asked. Any way my number has now been removed so here's hoping for less prank calls. :)

Why SHOULD you call customers if all you're going to do is put the phone down on them and not speak. Do they employ 2 year-olds at EON?  So damn childish.

It is a £400 desposit if you fail the credit checks! No on made you pay it! You could always have a prepayment meter.

Harassment by Eon, pure and simple. I have informed Eon that I am leaving and paid my bill.  If I'd wanted to still be with them I would.  I don't need need some commission/hungry sales rep, (If they even bothered to answer the phone) trying to change my mind. I don't care how business works, what I care about is my right to privacy.

Happy Chappy what is more important, a person's rights or those of a corporation. 'These people are here to help,' WRONG, these people are here firstly to make money. If you believe that corporations want to help us, then you are suffering from delusions. They pretend to offer help, when all they are after is making as much money out of each individual as they can.

Thanks to this site I now know who it is Eon calling me and I have mailed them, to stop the calls.  If the calls continue I will seek legal advise for harassemnt.

So Paul, when you leave your new energy supplier, what are you going to do when they start ringing you to get you to stay, which they will do.
If it bothers you that much, don't give your number out to your supplier, but then don't moan if a cheaper deal becomes available and they can't inform you of it.

I'm switching to EDF. I got one of these calls this morning. I suppose I don't mind them ringing but I'm not keen. What isn't acceptable is someone not being there when I pick the phone up. That to me says the time of our staff is more important than yours. Presumably from the previous experiences in this thread, I'm going to treated with this behaviour until someone at Eon just happens to be on the phone when I pick it up.
I will wait for the next one but if these no one there when I answer, I guarantee there will be a complaint to OFCOM.
