Have just received a call from this number, it rang twice and I answered, but they put the phone down!!!! Bit confused so used this site to find out who it was and not surprised to find all these comments. I am leaving e-on coz my plan had ended and basically I don't  like e-on, they have messed me around for 5 years. If they call again I will be writing them a letter of complaint ggrrrr xxx

I've been called 3 to 5 times per day from 0800 783 8555 for the last week.

It is driving me nuts!

How do I stop them?

Just tell them to take you off their database, I'm sure they will stop as they are legally bound to then stop calling you

So explain why when you pick up the phone there is no one there. If is the call goes to voicemail they don't leave a message. Is that good business practice? Think about it before you start accusing other people of making "idiotic comments". Cretin. I have just switched from Eon. If they want to make me a better offer then they are welcome to do it but silent calls are unacceptable!

Agree.  I researched for a better deal when I got my end of contract new tariff from EON, found a better one and phoned EON to tell them thinking that they may offer me a better rate to stay.  They couldn't and the very helpful EON guy even admitted that EON tariffs were not the best around.  I am now in the process of switching and would be perfectly happy to discuss a much better deal with EON if they spoke to me when I answered this number.  But, like everyone else, I just get the silent treatment.  What's the point of calling someone that you want to keep as a customer if you won't speak to them when they answer.  Sorry EON but at least have the courtesy to speak to me - nothing more irritating than frantically trying to find my ringing phone only to be hung up on when I answer.

This is EON power company.  I have just arranged to switch over FROM them to another company.

I am also switching from E.on to npower and keep getting calls from them! Although they never say anything, just put the phone down! [***]!

Received a call from this number today, did not get to the phone in time. I too am leaving EON. My plan finshes this month and although they advertise no price rises this year, my new plan they wanted me to accept was dearer per KWH than my old plan.

It will be. If you were on an old fix rate, todays prices are dearer. Serious, some people are thick.

It makes sense that the call is from Eon cs I'm in the process of switching to nPower

They leave voicemail - but I'm on hols and don't intend to pick them up at my roaming rate

I am in the process of switching from Eon to British Gas and I have had 5 calls since last Friday and doubtless there will be more to come. I have no intention of engaging in conversation with them and the more they pester me the less likely I am to deal with them next time I switch energy suppliers.

I am now up to 11 calls and they show no sign of giving up. How do I get rid of them?

LOL at changing to British Gas. Dearest supplier out there.

I am receiving phonecalls from this number about three times a day for about two weeks now. Every time I have tried to answer the phone call I heard background noise like from some office and some other times the person put the phone down. It looks like it is real [***] or something similar. I wish peace in mind to the person who is calling form this number, so I get a bit of peace from him too.

I am in the process of swapping away from Eon and get two calls a day from this number,

I have switched from Eon and I was getting two to three phonecall per day for several weeks. They either called just for a few second so I didn't have time to answer and when I managed to answer on time, I could hear just some background noises, like from some office, or somebody put the phone down. And they never left a message on my answering machine. I didn't know who the psychopath was, so I got to this website (thank you all for info) Then I set this nuber in my mobile phone with silet ringing tone so I wouldn't bother me anymore. They kept calling me for another week or two. Then they stopped, I counted the number of their phonecalls and it was 33. I was prepared to send them a congratulation card if it reaches 50 calls, but they made only 33, never mind.

Caller said she was from Eon regarding our electricity renewal and that she was asked to contact us about it.

Clearly it was her bosses asking her to contact us as we did not make any request for them to call us and our contract isnt even up for renewal.

I am certain they will ring again, and again, and again..
