Same as all these other calls - free holiday for 4 people.  I asked why i had to call another number.  He said it was a different epartment that sends the information out.  Sounded too good to be true so fired up the computer to check.  In the mean time the phone went again 1471 showed 0646958103.  I just thought they might be checking if i was on the phone!!

I received a call on my mobile at 14:03 today (Friday 08/05/09).  The number showed "no caller ID".  The guy at the other end didn't volunteer his name when he called(suspicious) but when I asked he gave his name as Nick.  He said I had filled in a questionaire at Malaga airport earlier in the year (true) and that I had won the top prize of a European holiday; 7 nights accommodation and flights all paid.  He confirmed some of my details first; what is my name?  Do I own my own home?  Do I live with my partner?  And a couple of other questions I can't remember.  He then gave me an alphanumeric claim code, STSW *** 120 and said I had to call 0800 988 9900 to claim the prize.  I asked what the catch was and is this connected with time share, he said the only catch he could see was having to supply your own spending money and then ignored the timeshare question.  Having checked around I am in no doubt this is just another timeshare sales ploy and I shall not be calling.

Regarding the questionaire in Malaga.  It was being conducted in the airport departure lounge, it was this location that made me think it was probably a legitimate business.  The white male spoke excellent English and said the questionaire was just a survey being carried out by the travel company he works for.  I don't mind helping companies out with legitimate market research, it helps them improve their business.  I am however, utterly fed up with the underhand sales techniques being used by timeshare companies.  In addition to this approach I have seen them trying to drag people off the street with the promise of free holidays that turn out to be untrue.

Timeshare companies claim to be legitimate businesses offering a good product.  If this is true then why is the initial approach they use always dishonest?  You might also want to check the "Money Saving Expert" website, they have posts from others who have been approached in this manner.

Was rung by an 'unknown number' and told I had one a competition for a 7day holiday for 4 people to Spain, Portugal and 2 other places. Just had to ring 08009889900 and quote reference SECY****3A. I have entered competetions before but don't remember this one. Lady knew some details about me (name, income above £25k, home-owner) and told me when exactly I had entered te competition online. I haven't bothered ringing the number.

Just had the CLC call - they are still at it, this is the second time I have been called in 6 months so they obviously don't check list who they call!  Same old 'free phone' numbers same old scam!  Same old response - go away (or something like that!)

When I first got the call I was ready to let him know how wrong he was - but then googled it!! I hope I don't now get pestered on the phone.

I looked on line and saw it was a scam but called anyway and sais that I believed it was a con could she confirm it, the lady told me that I hadnt won but still could and that the competion I enetered had a prize to be part of a promotion. When I said thsi wasnt what I'd been told she didnt sound surprised but obvioulsy realised I wasnt going to bite as she just said oh dear I will get my team to look into it. Ive askd to be taken off their system but likely hood is I wont be.

    Disgruntled Operative
I've taken the time to read through all the comments on this site and feel very sad that people have nothing better to do than to sit here and type about things they really dont have full knowledge about.

I work for CLC and enjoy working there, listening to the joy of telling people that their entry in a prize draw, survey etc has given them the opportunity to go on an AWARDED holiday (not WON, as suggested).

I myself didn't want to work for a holiday company that had a bad reputation so i took the time to do some research into their company before starting.  I got several people's version of the 'Timeshare Sales Pitch', holiday etc.  and was most surprised when they told me yes they had to attend the meeting, but didn't get bullied into buying something they didn't want, but got a very cheap holiday, without having to attend Timeshare pitches, sales etc.

Our holidays are taken on our Resorts, thats what we want, you to enjoy the holiday hopefully come and return year after year, expressing to your friends and family how you enjoyed the holiday (its called word of mouth Advertising - thus enabling us as a company to advertise the company this way instead of paying out millions in advertising fees that dont get to the kind of clientele we require, and which would in the long run mean that holidays on our resorts would be a lot dearer).  Timeshire isn't the only thing we do.. we do other types of holidays such as adventure, golf breaks, spa breaks, package, cruises.. this is the whole point behind the presentation to promote the company as a whole.

Yes you have a right to be skeptical, but you do get a FREEPHONE number to ring, its not asking much nor scamming you to ring and get the full details for a five minute phone call, lets face it its taken you longer to get yourself online and read a whole bunch of unreal reasons for not calling it?!!

We are not scamming anyone the details are written down in black and white before you have to attend anything (yes you do have to book to attend before you get your letter - but you do have the option to cancel).  At any point you are free to call the number on your invitation and ask any questions or concerns.. is that so hard to do?

At the end of the day we are here to do a job and do it well, we are governed by strict guidelines and rules, we are never to say you have WON anything, be it a prize, cuddly toy etc... and these rules are upheld with a strict hand.  All our calls are logged and checked regularly.

So to end... if you are skeptical do please ring the freephone number, the reference given will tell the operator who called you, if you have any concerns they will be only too happy to help you... they want to earn their commission as well as we do, so it doesn't pay us to lie and make things up..

All you are losing by ringing is a few minutes of your time, is that so hard to do?  you may be surprised to find its not as bad as some of these bloggers are making about.

Take care people, dont be led by the bias of others, use your own head and feelings after all thats what you have a brain for!

    Good Day

hi ive done loads of these, you go to a seminar type thing sit there for 2 to 3 hours and they give you a free holiday, most of the time you have to pay an admin charge of about £ 30 per person, you have 18 months to go, when you get there they are nice places, the only catch is you have to go on a time share presentation which lasts about 4 to 5 hours thats it you say no and enjoy you free holiday, as long as you can say no. go for i, its a cheap holiday,we just needed spending money had a great time for £30 each admin charge. we have been on 4 of these, they still cant sus this out got a call from them today, probilaly going on another, they are what they are lose 1/2 day out of 7

Don't call the number it is a complete scam, and all to do with timeshare despite what they tell you. All they want is their commission they will tell you anything so that you book to go to their timeshare presentation and you don't want to go trust me its not 2 hours more like 4, and they don't leave you alone till you sign up.

Stupidly filled in a competition form at the London Food Festival and had lots of calls re winning the competition.  I was not interested in the 'win' even though its completely free....yawn.

After the third call I asked them not to call again but a lady called yet again and gave me the free phone number 0800 988 9900 to claim my completely free holiday.  I asked if there were any strings attached and she said she did not know the details of the prize.  I then asked how many people had won - apparently only 10....

It sounds so dodgey - the fact they keep ringing and the destination keeps changing even through we have said we are not interested. I am just disappointed that this was part of the food festival.

I almost fell for it. I was going to call, but decided to google first. Same thing for me. They called me on my mobile, knew my name, address, email and date of birth. They told me I didn't win the main prize (£5,000), but won a holiday all expenses paid. They asked me to call the 0800 number, that I had 8 months (?) to claim the prize but I should call as soon as possible to get registered. They even went on to say how lucky I was, congratulations, etc. Arghhhh!

I filled in a short questionaire in Kingston high street a couple of weeks ago and have just been phoned to say i've won a holiday to Portugal or the Canary Islands. I'm suppossed to ring 0800 9889900 to find out more. I was given a reference code and told that if I ring before 2pm then i could win an extra £50 or travel vouchers or spending money.
As you simply don't get something for nothing in this world I thought i'd check out the number and found this page. Ah well, I don't have any holiday left until April '10 anyway.

I recently entered some online competitions for fun, and I got a call today from a lovely sounding young man who sounded delighted to inform me I'd won a two week holiday, he knew my full name, date of birth address etc and when I said I didn't have a pen to write down details he sent me a text from a mobile with the 08009889900 number and a code, I was really excited until my dad made me google the number. I'm gutted that I haven't really won anything!
