- Caller: Scottish Research Company
- Peter replies to David MacLarenCalled by this number. The claimed to be doing research, but the question was about "which of the following home improvements are you most likely to do first..."
When I said I didn't know, he repeated the question. I repeated my answer - and he hung up! - NicolaYeah I get these calls a lot, although they are only interested in home owners, so I wish they would take me of their list as I'm a council tenant!!
- KeithCalled me several times - I no longer answer.
Told me they were from Scottish Research Bureau - again Google shows up no results
I'm in Scotland - are the rest of you?- Caller: Scottish Research Bureau

- maggiedCalled by this number tonight and when I asked who was calling they hung up. I am with TPS so I shouldn't be getting unwanted calls. I tried to call back but there is a number unobtainable tone. In answer to Keith -Yes I am in Scotland- Edinburgh in fact.
- Caller: UNKNOWN
- GRLike maggied above, I got a call from these people this morning and they hung up when I asked who was calling. Am also in Edinburgh and this number is a first - I didn't try to call back but will put them on 'mute' and go and do something else next time...
- Caller: presumed cold call
- Call type: Telemarketer
- CathyThis number called at 16:20 today. I didn't get to the phone in time and they did not leave a message on the answerphone. I am in Edinburgh.
- Caller: Unknown
- nittenlassGot a call from this number. Guy said he's from a research company on behalf of Simply You (I'm sure that's what he said but isn't that a clothing company?) and asked if I had the choice, which would I choose as my next priority purchase. A Gas Boiler, gas central heating or (can't remember the third!). I said Gas boiler. He said they would send me a voucher to say thank you and asked for my postcode. He already had my address and quoted it to me before he asked for the postcode. Creepy. I'll keep you posted on what the voucher is for!!! I'm also near Edinburgh.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- LothianLadCalled today, from a research company, she said '"could you answer one question for me?", "To answer that question uses up your one answer" I replied ... she put the phone down without further comment!
- Call type: Survey
- jen jonesi got three calls today. I'm in edinburgh with a private number. They keep waking my three month old baby!
- Caller: unknown
- zarahAhh this number has already called me 5 times today. Not impressed. I too am in the Edinburgh area. Still to actually talk to someone when i answer the phone!
- MadmarchmareMy mum had a call from this number. We are in Edinburgh. She is 87, is very hard of hearing and has Alzheimers. She answered this call thinking it was my husband and she said she THOUGHT the man said "are you alone?" She could have been mistaken of course, but it freaked her out and she is now scared to answer the phone. She is registered with TPS, as I am, but that doesnt seem to stop these calls. Do they realise what harm they are doing to some people? It makes me furious that they can get away with this.
- AndrewI'm in Edinburgh, they knew my surname but they couldn't hear me for a change
- Call type: Telemarketer
- dodgyspark| 1 replyi have had fifteen calls from this number in last two days.We have answered it before and told them I am a tradesman so if i want anything doing to my house A:- i can do it myself or B:-i know someone reputable who can do it for me,so take your shady home imp. companies and stick 'em! I have also said to them (trying to butt in where possible) i am TPS regd at which they get quite shirty and hang up! I have suffered from these nuisance calls before and contacted B.T. who unfortunately put you through to a call a call centre in India who can't understand Scottish dialect, therefore making it very hard to get them to understand the problem!!! JOY!!
- pensta replies to dodgysparkhave you got a BT line or cable landline number?? I have had these pests ring for days now & don't answer. I am also TPS registered but have a virgin cable number..... who has been selling lists of Edinburgh numbers to companies i wonder????
- LothianLadThe ****s called again today! (see last comment left 24th May). This time a little less polite - I said that they'd woken my wife who works nights ... they hung up. If only I could get their home number so that I could call it at 3am!
- Caller: Scottish research
- DebzResearch company in Scotland. Trying to sell me alarms this time. Five minutes later they rang again started talking then hung up.
NB TPS won't work for all companies as only some register with it. It isn't law that they do unfortuately so until then we will get plagued with telephone sales. You can ask each individual company to add you to their list of people not to call. Once this has been verified and they call again, you can have them fined. Usually just pointing this out to them gets them to stop. Always take note of names, dates and times :o)- Call type: Survey
- DonaldComplained to TPS and received this. Now you know who to tell to make them go away!!!!

Dear Mr
Thank you for your complaint regarding the receipt of a research call.
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) aims to reduce live "direct marketing" calls and is unable to stop calls from organisations who are conducting research. Research calls are not deemed as direct marketing as they generally relate to information gathering or seeking of opinions whereas the purpose of a direct marketing call would be to sell or market a product or service.
If you want to stop these calls you will need to contact the companies that make them directly or inform the caller that the call and any future calls from them is not welcomed. Additionally, you can also request that they suppress your details. They are obliged to comply with your request. If the company continues to call disregarding your request you may seek further guidance from the Market Research Society (MRS), furthermore the MRS has a code of conduct which all members must comply with. Their details are:
