- Dave3 times I've had this irritating number call and then hang up after about 5 or 6 rings. Really ruins any concentration when you are working from home, and I'm Edinburgh too.
- CharlieThey phoned us today (we're in East Lothian) and asked for Mr Wilson (not my name, but wife's maiden name) so I asked which company they were phoning from. They point blank refused to say who they were calling from and kept asking to speak to Mr Wilson and then hung up on me! Surely that's not acceptable from any organization - even if they are hiding behind the loophole of "Market Research".
- Caller: Unknown
- Auntie KateIt was from a "Research Assistant at Simply Homes" and would I answer a simple question. I said we were not interested in buying anything and she politely rang off. I hope they don't bother ringing again.
- Caller: Simply Homes

- "Pav"I HAVE SENT THE E-MAIL BELOW TO TPS
"I have had two calls from 08443580023 - in both cases cutting off when I pick up the phone.
Putting that number into Google links to the following page https://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/08443580023/2
on which a number of people say they have received annoying/repeat/silent calls from this number (in some cases, despite being registered with TPS- the firm's excuse being that they are doing "research")
I am registered with TPS,
Can you do something about this nuisance"- Caller: silent calls
- Lothian LadGRRRRRR!!!! again!!! called today at 18:50 and went into the 'can I ask you one question' routine; I said that I had asked them to stop calling in the past - he said they hadn't called before, but he'd remove my number from their database - we'll see!

- Colin replies to Margaret| 1 replyHi, I'm a journalist with The Sunday Post. Would any of you care to be interviewed by me about these phone calls. You can contact me on cgrant@sundaypost.com or phone me on 0141 567 2758.
- jimbo midlothian| 1 replyhave had constant calls from this number, whenever I try to answer the caller hangs up. It is becoming very annoying.
- JT West Lothian replies to jimbo midlothianThey call me at least 5 times a day at the moment, the last just 5 mins ago.. Is nothing sacred!
- stuart| 1 replyScottish Research Bureau
We are registered with TPS - and we are in the Edinburgh vicinity.
Why the hell are we still getting these calls ?
Tried to call BT nuisance calls service - gave up after being on hold for 20 mins.
These are sales calls - and just calling yourself a "Research company" and saying 'don't worry this isn't a sales call" doesn't change that fact.
They are getting increasingly rude when you challenge them.
What the hell is the point of the TPS ???- Caller: scottish research bureau
- Call type: Telemarketer
- another edinjust had a call from these clowns when putting my children to bed. didn't get to the phone before it'd stopped...
- Mary| 1 replyI have had this number call me 4 times already today and not one of them have i answered! I live in Edinburgh aswell.
- Joyful replies to MaryI had a call today from the Scottish Research guy. He said if I could spare 10 seconds to answer one question I would be rewarded by a free smart meter. When I asked if he was an energy company he terminated the call. I too am in Edinburgh.
- CLThey called me tonight, asked me about home improvements and when they asked me to confirm my address (which was YEARS out of date) and I declined to advise them of my new address, the guy hung up after calling me a stupid [***]. I am contemplating getting rid of my land line altogether. This is not research, and it has gone beyond telesales, this is abuse. I am in Edinburgh
- Caller: Scottish Research Bureau

- Ronnie FullartonSome subhuman person called me asking for someone who has never lived at this address. I tried to call back but was told by Virgin Media that I was a raving lunatic.
- Caller: Sales of some description
- Call type: Telemarketer
- CraigIt's a company who are based somewhere in Fife and the Lothians (I once managed to badger one of their callers for long enough to reveal this) who vary the name of their company every few months or so, pretending to be from made-up magazines or a research bureau. This month they are "The Scottish Research Bureau", which is a fake name,. They have been calling me every month or so for ten years, even though I'm on the TPS list. My guess is that they are using a revolving door policy of poor underpaid sods (probably even straight off the dole, forced to do the fake job or lose their benefits) to try to sell their worthless and probably fraudulent "home improvement vouchers". This is the first time the phone number has come up on 1471, and I think I'll be making use of it very soon. Best thing to do is just ignore their questions and leave the phone off the hook as long as possible to cost them as much money as you can.
- Caller: "Scottish Research Bureau" (fraudulent company)
- Call type: Telemarketer
- AmandaGot home from work tonight and 4 messages on answer machine from this number. Each message was a dial tone and when I called the number back got the message that there was a fault with it. How annoying. Each call was 10mins apart. I'm in Edinburgh too.
- EleanorI too have TPS and have received several phone calls from this number. I spoke to someone yesterday (claiming to be from a research company) who was trying to sell me a house alarm, much to my annoyance. At all other times they hang up before I can get to the phone. When you try to call the number it goes dead. I live in the EH47 postcode area.
- Call type: Survey
- MargaretThis number just called me. I was waiting for the bank to call back and answered it. A man asked "Is that Mrs nnnn?" and used my previous name. I asked who was calling and I heard the click before I'd even finished the sentence as he hung up. I am a member of TPS and I have anonymous call reject on my line so that people who withhold their number won't be connected.
- Ela replies to stuartDon't blame TPS, they're doing what they can. TPS blocks callers that want to sell you something; it allows research as it has beneficial purpose. However, if a market research company is being rude, idiotic or hangs up on you mid-sentence, it should be reported to MRS immediately! (That's Market Research Society.)
Are we positive that's a market research? - EckyI also live in Edinburgh. Virgin line on ex-BT number. TPS registered.
Got called twice today. First woman hung up after pronouncing my name incorrectly after I told her she nearly had it right. An hour later, different caller from the same number - still pronounce my name incorrectly but I didn't comment this time - then asked if I would answer a question. I said no and hung up.
Calling themselves a research bureau is clearly a thinly veilled attempt at getting round the TPS rules.- Caller: Scottish Research Bureau
- Call type: Telemarketer
