- JimThe caller knew my surname. She said that she was calling from the Scottish Research Bureau and asked if I would take part in a survey. I declined politely and she thanked me and rang off.
Like everyone else who's plagued by these type of calls I knew full well it was for marketing purposes. The 'Scottish Research Bureau' title just sounds so phoney.- Caller: Scottish Research Bureau
- Call type: Survey
- JimI've just received another call from this number (about 1hr 10mins later0. This time, there was no-one at the other end. I held on for about 10 seconds but then the call was terminated.
Annoying!- Caller: 08443580023
- Edinburgh Bob| 1 replyHad a call from this number this morning at 11ish. Didn't catch the company name properly but she mentioned energy and Scottish Government grants and wanted to see if I was eligible. Maybe mentioned "energy survey" to get round the TPS. Tried to sound official but clearly wasn't.
Got the impression she wanted to fix me up with a company doing home insulation and claim a grant on my behalf. I already know I'm not eligible due to sufficient existing insulation, but from what I've seen with elderly relatives that doesn't stop companies pretending there's no existing insulation and claiming the grant anyway. Seems to be too many companies fiddling the forms and cashing in on these grants.- Call type: Telemarketer
- AndrewI'm also in the Edinburgh area and signed up to TPS. They have been calling my number quite a bit which is not fun when your working nightshift! Don't want to switch the phone in case of important phone calls but I'm just about at my wits end with this lot.

- SnowmadThis number called me last night about 7.30pm. Claimed to be the Scottish Research Bureau and googling it brought me to this forum. I'm surprised that they've been getting away with it for so long, since I assume people have reported this to the Telephone Preference Service and the Information Commissioners Office.
Contrary to a previous poster's comment, the TPS website says it is mandatory for a company to abide by the TPS list of opted-out private numbers. To ignore this means the company is breaking the law.
So...how come TPS/ICO haven't managed to do anything about this bunch?- Caller: 'Scottish Research Bureau'

- Mrs Ann TemplemanHave had dozens of calls from these people who at first seem very polite when I refuse to answer questions or mention TPS just put the phone down half way through my sentence.
They say it is a survey but strangely ask if I would like a new bathroom, bedroom or kitchen.- Caller: Scottish research bureau
- EdCalled us twice in same number of days. Selling but pretending to be market research company. When questioned on market research credentials just hung up.
What sort of people run these companies? I feel sorry for people who have sunk to a situation where they have to work for them.
Talking of which, I am registered with TPS so complained. Yet again no help. Another quango taking our money, but for what?- Caller: Scottish Research Bureau

- MarkI live in Edinburgh. Been receiving calls from this number about 2-3 times daily for over a week now, including Saturday. I have an answerphone, the caller never leaves any message. It is still annoying, to have the phone ringing needlessly several times per day.
- ElemeleThis number phones the house several times each week. We have answered in the past and said not interested but they keep calling.
They have called us twice today (Sunday). Interestingly they now seem to know how many times the phone rings before our answer machine picks up, and hang up well before then.- Call type: Telemarketer
- ElemeleMake that three times today... I bet they call this evening too.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- OldeMaydeVery rude nuisance caller - how can I bar them?
- Caller: Didn't say
- Call type: Telemarketer
- LionkingKeep getting calls from this number ~ usually no-one is there. When there is it is about a so-called government scheme about insulation. Claim not to be selling (as this would not be allowed as 'working' for the governement) only doing work for the government ~ carrying out a survey about accessed home insulation.
- LasswadeUsed my correct name then rang off as soon as I confirmed it.
- Caller: Scottish Research Bureau
- LljIm in Edinburgh and was called today by Energy Audit Scotland. When I said I was on the TPS the caller very rudely informed me that as she wasn't selling anything she is allowed to call! When I challenged this she was very rude and hung up on me. These type of calls are getting more frequent. It makes me so angry! Sometimes I get them 5 times a day! Once it was at midnight?!
- Caller: Energy Audit Scotland
- JSCalled in Edinburgh. We're on TPS. Was told this was Energy Audit Scotland working on behalf of the The Scottish Government. I googled as she spoke and drew no evidence of an organization of this name, so told her I had no reason to believe she was who she claimed to be. She hung up at this point. Then I found this site. Presumably claiming to be working for the Scottish Government is fraudulent . . .
- Caller: Energy Audit Scotland
- Ian| 1 replyJust received a call from this number. Going to complain to TPS about these calls, again!
- Caller: Scottish Research Company
- Adrian replies to IanI've had two calls from them. The first "Energy Audit Scotland" was a man saying it's an initiative fro the Scottish Government and I'll be getting an energy saving report if I answered questions. I asked him who wanted to know and he was cagey - "We've been asked as a result of the initiative...". When I pressed him "Was it the Scottish Government who asked?" he said yes and carried on. I don't believe him.
Another call today from a woman claiming "Scottish Research Bureau" and I'd be getting a voucher for answering a question. When I asked who wanted to know and would my details be passed to a sales organisation, she just hung up.
As others have said, these people seem to ignore the TPS, probably under cover of being a market research operation. - MichaelWe got one last night too... Googling Scottish Research Bureau returned this site. Wee one not long in bed - back of 8! Lucky he wasn't woken up or I would have been less than polite with the caller. When I replied "none of the above" to his scripted "which of the following is a priority... etc etc" was hung up on. I answered the question - so where's my voucher? (-;
We're also in Edinburgh and signed up to TPS. It's annoying that the TPS can apparently do nothing about these blatantly obvious sales calls. It must certainly stretching things a bit to say these are research calls...- Caller: Scottish Research Bureau
- Elizabeth BurnettPerson called saying they were from the Scottish Research Bureau - when I asked what that was they hung up the phone. Who is this?

- Smithy| 1 replyI'm in edinburgh and I've been phoned by this number twice now. It's always at 20:45 on a Monday night! Nobody speaks though, just silence. Gunna burn their office down if I find out where they're based, because they wake up my baby.
