Check your terms and conditions with the AA people - you'll find that they're entitled to pass your details to 'carefully selected' companies who may contact you to offer products and services of interest (or some such wording), but basically, unless when you sign up to the AA (and most other organisations) you need to specify that you don't want your details being passed to anyone else, and then they're duty bound not to do so.

But if you don't explicitly tell them, the small print allows it.

Well they called me at work last night at 20:07 (missed call showing this morning) so they can call all they like at that time.

I'm now getting calls at work 3-4 times a day.

I always tick the boxes when signing up to disallow sharing of information. Unfortunately I don't have a screenshot from that time.

Whether this opt-out was not offered or has been ignored, I have now written to the AA (The AA Data Protection Compliance Manager, Fanum House, Basing View, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG21 4EA) to revoke any such permission.

I would urge anyone else to do the same.

Really really sick of these people... They ring every day and each time I picked up there was no-one there until Monday (gone 8pm) when someone asked to speak to 'J' Surname  with no actual gender!  When I asked who they were they said that they had been asked to call me by the AA - I am not (and never have been) a member of the AA so I told her to stop ringing me and she hung up.

Tuesday night (again gone 8pm) I got another call and when I said that I had already told them not to call me she got shirty and said that they were 'only trying to help' me and that I should have said that I didn't want them to call!   I told her in no uncertain terms that I thought it was pretty 'bloody obvious' from my response the night before that I didn't want them to call me again and said I would take this further if I get any more harrassment from them.  The funny thing was that she wouldn't back down and kept arguing back and in the end I just hung up.   I wouldn't mind but I am ususally quite a placid person and know that people have to do this sort of this to make a living, but I can't believe that they have the nerve to have a go at me when they make the unsolicited call in the first place!

This number has been calling every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. We never answer, and they never leave a message on the answer machine.

Is there any point in the Telephone Preference Service these days - although we are registered it doesn't appear to stop unsolicited calls like this.

They have been pestering me for days now calling three plus times a day. We've already told the AA to knob off in terms of offering us more than what we've signed up for (yer know, roadside help etc!!) and that if we were interested we would contact THEM. They quickly disappeared off the phone when my husband got on and told them that he worked in insurance himself and could easily get a better deal for whatever it was they were flogging. Seems our message has gotten lost. FFS!

Have received numerous calls on my mobile – 8 missed calls within 24hours! We’re TPS reg’d but this obviously won’t stop unsolicited calls to mobiles.
They have a habit of ringing off after 4 – 5 rings – when I’ve managed to grab my mobile in time, they simply hang up anyway.Have sellotaped my phone to my ear now – I’m ready to give them hell!!!!!
I’m annoyed that the AA have passed my details on – been a member on/off for years and this is 6 months into my current membership – the AA have started sending me crap thru’ the post, then these calls start – I’m guessing they’re feeling the pinch – they clearly don’t to retain my business?…

Emailed FirstAssist demanding they stop immediately.

A friend who is actually in the army was recently plagued by a similar insurance co. offering life/accident cover. When she did speak to someone she did ask if they'd cover her for her deployment to Afghanistan - you can imagine the answer!!

Might claim I'm in the services and about to be deployed!!

These has been ringing me on a daily basis for a couple of weeks now and often it's several times a day. My phone registers numbers and call times and I can come home from work some evenings and there have been 8 calls in one day. They ring as early as 9am and as late as 9pm. Very annoying and frustrating that they just will NOT leave me alone

melaniecharlton > it is against the law to call and not leave a message.

paul smith > you can register mobile phone numbers with the TPS, the service also deals with txts.

However, my mobile is registered and I pointed this out to the caller, Steven Kerney (lets see how you like your details being passed about without your permission), he argued that I signed up for info from partner companies, there is no way that I did that, I definately opted out.

The AA and First Assist are breaking laws here, the message at the bottom of the AA complaint form is also against the regulations, it basically states that you are opting in by contacting them!

The *****ers even charge for calling their complaint line! I will definately not be staying with the AA after this.

So my advice is write to them, stating that you do not want them to pass on your details:
    https://www.theaa.com/common/contact_us_form.jsp

'I do not want you to send me any marketing communications. I do not want you to pass my details onto any other company, whether they are your partners or not, or whether they are part of the Acromas group or not.

I will be keeping a copy of this message and forwarding it to the ICO as Suporting Evidence if you do not comply with my instructions, or if you do not remove the aforementioned message.'

Sorry, I meant it's against the law to call and not leave any message, or have someone actually answer when you pick up the phone.

Started receiving calls from this number 3 days ago. They aren't leaving messages if I don't answer.

I have contacted First Assist on their email address (corporate.info@firstassistinsurance.co.uk) and told them I want to exercise my right, under section 11 of the data protection act, "prevent processing for purposes of direct marketing" for both my phone number and email address.

I then received two further calls last night, and just received another today. As the act allows for some delay in processing the request I'll leave it for now. If they have't stopped by the end of the week I will write to them again, cancel my renewal with the AA (who I believe they are contacting me on the behalf of) and complain to the ICO.

Keep calling, if it is AA then I'm annoyed because I always ask for my details to be withheld.  Multiple calles every night, up to 9pm.  I've never answered.
