- CharlesThis bunch of spammers called me today just as I was about to use the phone. Some sort of alleged energy survey.
Couldn't get them to clear the line. You hang up on their recorded message, then lift the handset to place another call and the stupid robot is still there on the line waffling on. In the end I had to unplug the phone cable and plugged it back in again to get rid of them so I could use my own phone.- Caller: Unknown

- CliveCame home to a message on my answer machine. .........."Has your family become more aware of energy usage in your home. Press 1 for yes, 2 for no. (A few seconds went by then..) I'm sorry, I didn't detect a response" No darling and you never will
Nice of them to advise us that they are not covered by the TPS legislation. It's a bit like saying "Ya boo! we got around that one by being market research and not direct marketing. It's about time that we public could sign up to a service that stopped these calls. TPS is useless.- Call type: Telemarketer

- jenny claughtonwe had a phone call from this number earlier this evening my husband answered and the number was claiming to have been talk talk asking us to do a survey they then told him to press 9 to stop any more callswhich is what he did because of telephone scams happening all the time i was wondering if this was a genuine phone number
- Barbara| 1 replyI just rang them back on the 0845 050 0377number they advertise. They answered by saying they were a marketing company so TPS does cover their calls. It was a recorded message needless to say with the option to press 9 or wait to leave a message. I left them a message saying I was deaf, they had got me out of the shower and I had almost fallen getting to the phone to find a recorded survey I couldn't hear. Asked them to take me off their lists and said i hoped 'They' had got the message. We shall wait and see.
- Caller: An energy company
- Call type: Survey
- Barbara replies to BarbaraI also told them if they rang again I would prosecute them and that as I had Legal Cover on my House Insurance I had the means to do that.
- Dave in Yorkshire| 1 replyThe phone rang, left no message, but when I 1471ed it, this was the number on. Glad I didn't answer
- Dave in Yorkshire replies to Dave in YorkshireOh, wait, yes there was a message - same one somebody mentioned upthread, with a recording going "have you and your family become more aware of energy useage"
- SBeeAfter several calls I have today opted out via their Internet link - hope this stops them, it's not very reassuring that other people have opted out and still been called.

- MuttonLancer replies to Laura| 1 replyWhat you do is find out who the director or owner of the company is, via business information websites. Record their call, then ring him in the middle of the night and play the message back to him a few hundred times. See how he likes it!
;-) - MuttonLancer replies to MuttonLancerIt's amazing what a simple search finds:

Looks like Adrian Kirk may be the key to finding information.

Mr William Duncan Taylor, so now we have your DOB (08/1952) and Directorships ... - helenI used the opt out link so we'll see whether it works! What I object to most is the times they ring: Sundays, evenings etc... There should be legislation to prevent this type of call. After all if someone kept pestering you in the street you could do something about it.

- DeeHad our first call on 3rd Dec.2011, the second and third on the 4th and 6th Feb. 2012 and another one today, 8th May. When the message started we ended the call each time, but they keep trying! According to their website they are based in Blackburn.

- JohnogateWe are registered with the TPS Telephone Preference Service but we still get unwanted calls from UK companies who either ignore it or find a weasel way around the rules. Overseas companies simply take no notice of it. However, provided you have an answer phone with a caller ID display the following system works very well with no stress because you don't have to speak to anyone.
• Have the phone set on the answering service permanently night and day but set for 8 rings or something like that before your message starts. This gives you plenty of time to get to the phone when it rings. It also means you don't have to remember to turn it on whenever you go out which is another small benefit.
• Look at the number on the caller display; whether it’s a Withheld Number, an International Number, an 0845 or whatever, if you are in anyway unsure of its origin let the answer service take it first. If it’s a legitimate caller leaving a message just pick up and answer with a friendly apology for being cautious.
• If it’s a sales call they hardly ever leave a message and just ring off but those of them who use a proper landline number rather than a withheld number are trying to fool you into thinking it’s legitimate so you do pick up. If it’s not a local number or it’s a number from outside the area you don’t recognise then let the answer service take the call first.
That’s it really but other things worth a mention are:
People who know you or have a valid reason for calling you will nearly always leave a message so don’t be afraid of missing the calls you want; you could have been out anyway. If it’s a sales call you will often hear general office noise and talking in the background. That’s because they use automatic dialling systems and there’s often no one immediately available to talk to you when your answer service cuts in.
Not all Withheld numbers are sales calls; friends or relations calling you from their place of work will often come up as number withheld or they set their own phone up like this for personal reasons. Most 0845 or similar numbers are sales calls but not always, sometimes it could be your gas or electricity company or your bank etc, but if someone keeps calling you from a proper landline number without leaving a message then it most likely is a sales call.
If your phone has the Caller ID and answering functions then it most likely has a Call Barring function as well. Just select the nuisance number and press the button. This is so satisfying; next time they call, your phone doesn’t ring (it might just give a beep), they get a brief engaged tone and are then automatically cut off. Lovely jubbly!- Caller: Curved Air Marketing Solutions
