17. Will registering on the TPS stop market research calls?
No, market research calls are not covered in the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 therefore companies conducting these types of calls are still allowed to call a TPS registered number. If you do not want to receive such calls, inform the caller to remove your details from their call lists.

so why do you profess to sell contact lists to SALES people on your web site then? doesn't sound much like surveying to me!!! you are the same as everyone else... saying it's market research, but actually you are making SALES calls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They hung up when I answered. 2nd unsolicited call today. The first was saying I had had a car accident and could they help, press 2 for real person.

Answered the phone & they automatically hung up. Not veryuseful.

All very well to say you are market research and not sales, but why are you calling my number which is ex-directory?  Have you bought the number from somewhere, or is just random dialling?

Just got a call from this number. It was a recorded message saying they were conducting a life style survey or something.  We just hung up.

You can zero rate these pests here. Endless calls from these idiots and pressing 9 does nothing! Grrrr!

1) A Curved Air company phone up with a survey

2) Later or on another day a Hot House company phones to sell you overpriced rubbish saying you completed a survey (pressing 9 does not work so you complete the survey they say)

3) It's an old scam that TPS and DMA don't do a damn thing to prevent.

4) NEW Legislation is required to allow consumers to opt out of marketing and survey calls as well as sales calls.

5) The current remedy is to e-mail them asking them to remove you from all lists and to cc the ICO.

6) Then to inform the ICO of a data protection breach when they contact you again.

These people are liars! I press 9 each and every time they call - and yet they call again.

The people are liars, crooks & charlatans.  Survey, by posterior!

That BT lets them function on its lines underlines the conscience-free business model of big telecoms - any degree of inconvenience & worse for the subscriber is OK by them, just as long as they, the telecoms companies, can make another fast buck.

With attitudes like that being the standard operating procedure for the fattest of fat cats, small wonder we have today's prevalent lack of social conscience at all levels of society, even degenerating into the mindless thuggery of recent days.

Had a call from this number so let the answerphone take it. Quite amusing to hear the automated voice trying to get my answerphone to press buttons to select options about whether it had ever bought an electrical appliance solely because of its energy rating!

It did give up after a couple of goes of 'not being able to detect a response'.

Fair play to the company for posting details here first, and providing a link to opt out of any future calls via the Internet. I shall see if that works. If not, I shall be logging a complaint.

Being ex-directory and with TPS, I should also like to know how they got my number. I am always very careful to make sure I always opt out of being contacted by phone.

this is probably BT.

if you dig deep enough it looks like BT are using a private company to conduct surveys and pressured sales jobs on numbers which are ex directory!

it is time to look for another provider.

dont press any buttons they always get fed up eventually and you have to be aware of premium phone rate scams.

dont trust BT anymore.

I am ex-directory and registered with the Telephone Preference Service but this company still call even though it sounds as though they are based in the UK. I have pressed 9, opted out via their website and reported them, but I doubt it will get them to stop calling me. They state at the top of this page that as they are conducting market research they are not contravening the TPS, but the fact is that people like me, and many many others, register with the TPS because we do not wish to be cold called by anyone, regardless of whether it is sales or market research. By calling those people registered with the TPS all Curved Air are doing is wasting money, wasting time and creating animosity.

Sick and Tired of unsolicited phone calls to my unlisted telephone.
This number, but different approaches, from market research.
First call one Sun. aft. was about use of cards, and overseas travel, with a human at the other end.
Today it is "Kirkdale"? Market Research, automated call, re Energy Usage.
Calling back the number connects to automatic voice recording.

Should add that I am registered with Telephone Preference Service, who advised me they could not act on market research type calls, and gave me a Market Research contact as follows.  However, other than the tel. no., gained from 1471, it is difficult to identify these automated callers.  Scottish accent, it seems this last caller had.

Advice from TPS
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) aims to reduce live "direct marketing" calls and is unable to stop calls from organisations who are conducting research. Research calls are not deemed as direct marketing as they generally relate to information gathering or seeking of opinions whereas the purpose of a direct marketing call would be to sell or market a product or service.

If you want to stop these calls you will need to contact the companies that make them directly or inform the caller that the call and any future calls from them is not welcomed. Additionally, you can also request that they suppress your details. They are obliged to comply with your request. If the company continues to call disregarding your request you may seek further guidance from the Market Research Society (MRS), furthermore the MRS has a code of conduct which all members must comply with. got a call from these people today with a message to say being entered for a prize draw after entering a questionaire. had several calls from this company with many different messages, anybody know any more about them.

Nuisance kirkdale market research calls - can not get hold of them to stop it and i am an ex directory number and registered with the telephone preference society

We're not with BT, we have a cable phone, ex-directory, refuse anonymous calls, TPS registered and they still got our number.

i just got rang by this number, i thought cold calling was illegal, maybe this company should stop cold callin ppl b4 they get shut down,, all i'm gonna say to this company DO NOT RING AGAIN OR ELSE, and in my view why should we be punished cos idiots cold call us, i'm not muckin about changing my number or reportin these numbers or anything, i just put phone down, they keep ringin me they will just waste their stupid pathetic lives

Just had them at 7.15pm in middle of Emmerdale. They also got my elderly mother out of bed a few days ago. Get some insurance Curved Air, cos if she falls down stairs cos of your calls, we are coming after you.
