Company called Britannia Law They claim to reduce your small business rates and send you details by registered post.  They then claim that you had 7 days to cancel after receiving the pamphlet and you now owe £480 . They claim their web site has a virus  and cannot be accessed!!   After 14 days they then claim you owe £850 including court fees but will accept £530 if you pay immediately !!
Trading Standards advise not to pay them at all

I've got the same problem with them, they said I hadn't cancelled when I rang them twice. Some guy phoned today asking for the money and when I told him I cancelled he called me a liar so I told them i'll see them in court. Good luck with yours.

I have also had dealings with this company but am dismayed at this feedback as they worked for me last September, i was slightly anxious about paying the fees but once i had done, did receive good service and to my surprise did actually gain a substancial rebate and reduction on my business rates so can't be all bad. Good luck !

We are recieving the same phone calls and have been for the past month demanding money...how do we get them to stop calling? We never even got anything through the post and yet they are convinced we have signed some kind of documents and now owe them a stupid amount of money.

We don't want to pay them anything...we just want the phone calls and threats to stop.

I have also had the  problem of dealing with this nasty "boiler room scam firm" same treatment as all the other posts have had, they promise no win no fee, edit the recorded message then demand £500 upfront ! I did some research on this so called company, rang Nottingham Police who informed me Britannia Law  Ltd is not registered at the post code they have given,or anywhere in Nottingham. The website they use is non existant,e-mail address is unobtainable, and the telephone number permanantly rings.
They have just sent me another letter and now requested over £1000.00  and threatened me with court action if I refuse to pay, good luck with that one !
I have no problem of going to a small claims court to put my side of these unfair codes of practice across, they wont receive a penny from me.Register with the TPS to block withheld calls coming through they only contact you with withheld number.

I am delighted to have found this forum as I am having similar problems with Britannia Law.. They called mein November offering to get a rebate and reduction in my business rate, within a week they wrote and said they had won the appeal, and wanted almost £400.. so I called the valuation office who said the appeal wont even be heard until 2013 and suggested I cancel Britannia Law and put the appeal in myself which I did, now I have been sent an N1 claim form telling me I have 5 days to pay the £1045.00 or it will go to court.. I contacted a solicitor who said they are trying to scare me... he reckons 80% of people pay up rather than go through a court.. I have an appointment for Monday to see what he can do for me, but he said they are just bullies who depend on honest people like us to pay up rather than have a fuss made.
I will let you know what happens on Monday.
AND they still don't have a web page, its still under construction!! very odd!!

forgot to mention my call was also edited as I asked what I was agreeing to and they told me  just  paper work sent to look through, but when they played it back what I said had disapeared along with the 7 days cancelation. They didn't even wait 7 days as they contacted the valuation office the next day which means( " u can't cancel as they've already started working for you " )  THEIR  WORDS

I certainly will John. I'm just a little worried that the 5 days deadline will be up on Monday, are they going to add more stupid charges to the already mounting bill..? Just another thought....
If Britannia Law are not at the address on the letter, then how do we contact them if we were going to pay them?
    Very curious.

I am getting depressed over btitannia law .trading standards told me that it was nothing to do with them as it was a trader to trader matter.police wont help ,they say it is a civil matter and apparently because I signed for a recorded delivery from britannia law thats apparently a legal agreement, but of course anyone in my house would sign a recorded delivery, thats normal.I  dont understand how that makes anything a contract.apart from my husband signing for that  no other contract was signed

We are having exactly the same problem. On several days we have had up to 20 phone calls, verbal abuse, called liars and the tape has been doctored BIG TIME.We are on TPS so the call should not have come thru in the first place. We have been told by the information commission that they should not be playing the tape messages without your permission under the Data Protection Act.We are certainly not going to pay them but are worried about other people giving in to them.Look forward to hearing how you get on with your solicitor Val.

Forgot to add thatI also sent a formal letter of complaint to britannia law ,by recorded delivery on the 19th december ,which they never replied to or acknowledged,I also requested a copy of the tape.of course that has not materialised either .apparantly it is our legal right to request a copy.maybe if we all stick together we can do something about these scamming rats

We are currently instigating legal proceedings against the owners of this domain however if there are any clients who are genuinely concerned about our services then please do not hesitate to give us a call. We believe that the posts on this site are fake and are in fact competitors trying to slander our reputable name. I can confirm that our telephones are answered between 9am and 5pm with no exceptions by a professional team of customer service operatives and in respect of people posting of being mis-sold or ill advised I will confirm that no agreement from our company becomes valid unless the client has spoken to two separate teams including a sales team and surveyors before then receiving all documentation confirming what has been agreed via recorded post. Only then does a 7 day cooling off period begin upon which it is the clients responsibility to look through the literature and cancel if they feel our service is not for them.

We currently have in excess of two thousand clients and have made some substantial savings. We are both professional and transparent and if anyone feels aggrieved in any way then we have a strict complaints procedure to make sure we maintain our excellent services levels.
