Lowri Beck drive me round the bend.

Let's get this straight - I know they're a bona fide company, and they are not scam artists.

However, what they are is ****** irritating!

I submit monthly meter readings to my energy supplier (NPower) like clockwork.  Peculiarly I get hassled by Lowri Beck asking for readings within days of me submitting them online.  Whether or not this is at the prompting of NPower or not I don't care - they've had my readings, they should take note of them, and not waste my time.

When I get cards through the door saying they've called to take a reading this is also mysteriously soon after I've submitted readings.  If NPower don't trust me to give them readings of my own WHY KEEP ASKING ME???!!! Also, when they talk about meter inspections - I had my last one about a year ago - they can wait another year as far as I'm concerned if that's what the legislation requires, or agree to come round to take a reading when I'm at home (i.e. in the evening or at weekends, by appointment of course).  They've also left cards saying no-one was in when I clearly was there all day!  Nuisance!

Why not talk to NPOW and tell then you do not want anybody coming to read your meter.

Thanks, Phil!  I've just rung npower, and Lowri Beck IS one of the subcontractors they use for meter readings, so it's most likely legit and you can safely leave your info with them.  Still... you'd have thought customers would have been told about it!  I ended up just giving my reading to the chap at npower who was very helpful. :)  He thought perhaps Lowri Beck were going this to save sending guys out to do the actual readings.  Bah.. and after I'd pruned back the thorn bushes and nettles and everything, too. ;)

I keep getting these calls too - this time they left an automated message saying they are calling on behalf of N Power who I am not even with and I am with a company who is NOT listed anywhere to do with this company, and I give my readings each month online (and if I miss a month they estimate it and email to ask for readings). They are probably the same company who kept trying to come and inspect my meter when I had just given birth (and did not want some strange man rooting round my cupboard to get to the meter) - they didn't go to any other houses on my road. How do you get them to leave you alone? I've send them a message to stop contacting me but I don't know why they are doing that suddenly now anyway - lived here 2 years without them hassling us before this inundation.

Just had a call asking for my meter readings, funny though as I'd done it online weeks ago and following a card through the door last week from Lowri Beck I went online again and sent a new one.  This evening it's some joker from 08457 023461 who knew my supplier wanted meter readings also - I was very polite and asked them to confirm the information I had already given - strangely enough this info couldn't be accessed by Mr. Joker so he was told to jog on.

I got a call from these people this evening, I told them I regularly phone my meter readings in every month and my bills are always correct.  I refused to give them any information on this basis and the caller said 'so you're not giving me the readings then'. I said no, and she said 'I'll put a note on the system'.  I thought, 'you do that, dear, and don't call me again'.  Should've said that really.  Next time...

Legitimate or not, I strongly object to this company telephoning me asking for readings that I have already provided online to Npower.  If they need to inspect the meters, both are outside and can be accessed without difficulty.  Asking me to provide information over the phone does not satisfy any need they may have to make a physical inspection, so this company has absolutely no legitimate reason to telephone me.  I have raised a complaint with Npower and next time it happens I will report Lowrie Beck to the Telephone Preference Service.  I suggest others do the same.

This number keeps calling, sometimes early on Saturday mornings and now twice a week.

I closed an account with British gas and N power last year, and since live in a shared house and am not named.

I'm not sure why they are hounding me for a reading!

I'l contact N power and British gas to hopefully stop the calls. They're becoming a nuisence!

I too have had calls from this number, always during the day (when i am at work).
Sometimes they leave a message, usually they do not.

They have never attempted to turn up and read the meter themselves, as both meters are outside and they could do this without bothering me. Nor have i ever received a card through the door.

I find it extremely cheeky that a company who is hired to read meters, can't be bothered to do so, and then has the nerve to not only try and get the end user to do it but also give them an expensive 0845 number to do so on. I should be paid if i have to do their job for them, not have to do the work *and* pay for it myself through an expensive phonecall.

People really need to look at what they are sent. When Npower email you for a reading at the bottom it does state something along the lines of "We may still send someone to read your meter this is so we can perform safety checks" This is done once every 4-6 months. 2 minutes of your time within that space of time, what a burden... I work for Lowri Beck and 99% of people are quite happy to let me in for a few minutes just to read their meters quickly.

Like has been said before if your in doubt tell us your unsure. I've had customers call their supplier with me outside and then they've let me in once it has been confirmed, we are only trying to do our job. Some customers request a password if your so concerned get a password and then we can tell you it and you can trust us!

Far as calls are concerned thats not my department so i can't really comment.

This is a contracted meter reading service; Lowri Beck. They are contracted with various gas and electricity suppliers. i.e Utility Warehouse and Npower.
They generally call when a meter reading has not managed to reach all the area, it is not necessarily due to any billings it is simply for a regular procedure that meter readers undertake approx. every 6 months- 1 year, when a meter reader comes out to your property they are usually from the same company. sometimes they are unsuccessful in reaching all the area due to a Time Limit within every area. As they are a Meter Reading service they do not obtain any of your account infromation, therefore are do not have the ability to change or ammend your current supplier or bills.
As they are contracted with various suppliers, it is your supplier in whom sends the request through on their system for them to call to take the readings. Once your readings have been obtained by this Lowri beck their job is simply to send them directly to your supplier- this is what they do!
It is 100% genuine, this can be seen on www.lowribeck.co.uk
Although calling back on 08457023461 does charge, they offer other alternative methods of obtaining your reading. for example they will offer to call you back within the next few days, in which gives you the opportunity to take the reading and write it down. another way is that they can call you back at a specific time later on in the day, you can leave the meter reading on www.myreading.net. or simply you can request for a meter reader to come out to your property next time he or she is in the area.
when a phone call is made operators have the responsibility to ask customers to confirm the first line of their address, this can make customers wary or suspicious however it is all in good cause. sometimes details can be mistaken and wrong telephone numbers can be obtained. this is a procedure just to ensure that the property in question is correct in accordance with the telephone number. if you do not feel comfortable in confirming the first line of your address, this can all be resolved as the operators can offer your postcode and door number- this directly states they do have your address details.
If you are still unsure then contact your supplier, they will explain more or less everything stated above.

and as for 'doing their job for them', how silly obviously the call centre operators are paid to work in a call centre- therefore take the meter readings over the telephone; hence calling customers.
it is not a request that lowri beck is calling with- it is a question. to see whether it is possible to take them, if it is convienient to the customer

I have now had two of these cards through my door and as my supply company has not heard of them and they do not appear on the list of companys you say they do work for , and there is no account number or reference number on the card, then to me that means SCAM , AND THIS COMPANY WILL NEVER BE INVITED INTO MY PROPERTY TO READ MY METERS , my present supplier is welcome to ask me to let an identified person in , but I send my readings on line , and will remain doing so.
Oh and if this LOWRI BECK wish to make an appointment they can , but a police officer will be here and waitng.
