they are a genuine company!!! they are on npowers website and are confirmed to work on their behalf to collect meter readings. look in your contract with your energy supplier. unless it says so, they cannot sell your information to other companies without you agreeing to it. do some homework next time.

That's all well and good Matt, but when people get an unsolicited call from an unknown number with someone claiming to be from a company that they've never heard of and asking for information that they have possibly already supplied to their supplier - WHY should they trust you?

You say you have the accredited information and logos but all we have is a voice on the end of a call.

    Our suspicion is justified!

I don't know why some people on here are saying this is legitimate. I work for Flow Energy and I have my gas and electricity from Flow. And we use a company called Morrison Data Service to read and maintain our Electricity customers and another company called Smart Metering Services to read and maintain our gas customers. So why are these guys calling me? I don't know.

Plus, my meters are outside at the front of the property, come and read them yourselves!

I was left a card to call them with a meter reading. I called Lowri Beck on this number to explain that I don't have access to the meter and gave details of who to contact to get access to the meter. It was a few weeks later that I got my latest phone bill which showed that my call to them cost me £3.30.

Left a message on answerphone as we don’t pick up unknown numbers. Wanted gas and electric readings. Totally superfluous as we tell our supplier every month.

I've had this argument/discussion with my power supplier.  Lowri Beck are genuine and are engaged by various suppliers to "validate" your meter readings.  I suspect they are supposed to come out to site more often than they really do and when they do come out they're quick at leaving a card rather than waiting.  I pointed out to my power supplier that it would help if their website stated that they used Lowri Beck in this way.  Part of the real problem is that Lowri Beck's whole approach is so similar to that of a scammer that it is hard to differentiate, they call on one number, another number displays, and then a 3rd number seems to be needed to call back on - or of course the website.  When I have answered their calls I refused to get into dialogue as at that time I was unsure of who they were (it would help if they actually stated who they were calling on behalf of) and I explained I entered my readings monthly on-line.  They just said ok and that I didn't have to give them the readings.  I've told my power supplier the same.  Obviously if they call round and show their credentials I'll let them read the meter - only applies to gas as the 'leccy is outside anyway.

So - genuine but not a well thought out approach.

'Others on this thread talk about Lowrie Beck asking for meter readings: personally I regularly post readings on the NPower website so that my usage is up-to-date, but I guess if you don't give any readings for a while then NPower subcontract Lowrie Beck to get hold of the details'.
Wrong. Energy suppliers are supposed to get additional readings once or twice a year from a source other than the householder and irrespective of whether you give them regular readings yourself. Basically it's about checking up on the readings you have been giving! Many suppliers contract with Lowri Beck to do this.

I had the same issues when I changed from first utility to Bristol Energy. Just ring your energy provider and ask them to contact lowri beck on your behalf to stop them ringing you. You will still get a visit or a card but this should be only every 12 or 18 months. Hope this helps.
