I took a day off work yesterday for some study and made the mistake of answering my phone. I very rude man asked for me by name. He said he was a debt collector on behalf of Eon (I might add that I lived with my parents before moving to my current address where we have been with Scottish power the whole time). He asked me to confirm the first line of my address which I refused, he asked for my previous address which I refused (never give details out). I said i had never had an account with Eon, lived with my parents before - he stated he had been given both my home and mobile number and that it seemed a coincidence he found me! I asked what address he had on record for me - he laughed and said that I wouldn't give those details and that as i hadnt co-operated i should speak to Eon and hung up on me! At this point having never been in debt, burst into tears. I phoned Eon and they have no record of me, my address or my previous address. Either way i have no idea how they got my personal details, but am going to write a letter to Eon saying they employ bullies. Either that or they are rogue people hoping to get your bank details, i have no clue.

if this bunch of clowns call you ref paypal or ebay just tell them to VALIDATE (PROVE) the debt and call you back   as you have not signed anything or agreed to credit/owe the money or been showed the consumer credit act (1974) in law they are powerless and there threats are idle. just tell them one big fat f**k off and they will get the message in the end!

Got any problems with this company, simple solution - aside from swearing.

If they are contacting you frequently and in an aggressive manner then simple, its harassment - something which they can get in trouble over.

Contact liverpool trading standards to complain, they can prosecute them under the Administration Of Justice Act:
    http://www.liverpool.gov.uk/business/trading_standards/index.asp

And submit a complaint to the OFT regarding their actions, they wont deal individually with complaints - but collectively if their is enough they will go after them.
    http://www.oft.gov.uk/

Finally if you are so minded, you can get an injuction against them under the Protection From Harassment act if their behaviour amounts to harassment - it might be worth addressing this with the company they are phoning on behalf of.

These are the most aggressive and rude people I have ever heard from. They have just called and made me lose my temper. They then called again to say they have reported me to the police. You cannot even ring them back. JOKERS.

Yep, would recommend not to confirm any details - as they will require them to confirm your details under the Data Protection Act.

If they persistently call you and intimidate, then its harassment pure and simple.

Take not of my post a couple up, normal once Trading Standards get involved and they are made aware of it they stop hassling you pretty quick.

While I do genuinely sympathise with you all ; particularly those who do not have an outstanding debt or any dealings with the companies they 'collect' for - can I just offer my slant on this subject. I know I may get some bad feedback about this; but this company have called for info about my (soon to be ex) husband . From reading your comments he must owe on the ebay account he set up whilst living with me. I have passed on his info as he also owes THOUSANDS of pounds ALL in my name - so only I am liable for them and struggling so much paying them back even with CAB help, I can barely feed myself and my children - with most of my wages going to those debts . Anyway , sob story over - I'm ECSTATIC these people are going to pursue him relentlessly day and night .I'm glad hes going to have an insight into what I've been having to deal with from debt collectors for the last 18 months. I will sleep better knowing hes getting some aggro from these scouse t***s!

    A response to Looby Loo:

No one who wants the rule of law thinks crime should pay.  Your ex seems to be a crook.  He should be made to pay the price for the misery & damage he has caused.

The problem with outfits like Intrum Justicia is that they too break the law.  They attack without conscience & often persecute the wrong people.  It is disgraceful that such as eBay hire these lawbreaking thugs to frighten money out of the more vulnerable & the totally innocent, instead of taking direct legal action.  The real crooks simply laugh at them, move on, plant debts on others (as debts were planted on you), change their identities as snakes change their skins & steal the identities of others.

Letting IJ loose on the public only reinforces the law of the jungle.  in that game the real villains, who don't think as decent people think, are always several jumps ahead.

Do you want your ex to pay for his criminality, or are just looking for signs of action with no real hope of a result?  For the scant hope of real retribution, are you happy that the Liverpudlian lawbreakers are every day & night persecutinge guilty & innocent alike?  How will you feel if, because someone fakes your ID, IJ's thugsn start phoning or doorstepping you, day & night?

What I'm saying is that I completely sympathise with your feelings (who would not, except your ex & those like him?), but encouraging other crooks to attack whooever they please means the law has failed & you are very unlikely to get the result you want.

Ebay & other IJ customers could use their huge commercial clout to drag the legal system into the 21st century, so that it works for the innocent instead of protecting the wealthy with good lawyers & the clever crooks who know the system.  But actually they care only about money.  At present money is more easily screwed by IJ's illegal threats out of anyone they can get it from, guilty or innocent.  So the likes of eBay are no different from your ex.

None of that gets you out of the hole into which your con-man ex has landed you & into which he is doubtless pushing some other decent person right now.  You should not be being forced by the legal system to pay debts landed on you by his criminality & your gullibility when none of that should have happened had eBay done proper status checks before allowing those debts to be accumulated.  If you haven't done so already, go and see your MP.  Tell him/her, calmly, what has happened to you.  Show them the correspondence on this & the previous 8 pages of this thread.  Research the heaps of information that Google can take you to which describes the crooked ways of the UK debt collecting industry.  Ask your MP what he/she will now do to get the law to work to protect the real victims.  And why the hell should the CAB be helping you to pay someone else's debts when, as you say, you & your kids are on the breadline?

If you fight instead of hoping IJ will fight for you (they won't) then you'll be doing something really useful.  And it'll give you a real sense of worth & purpose.

    Good luck!

Just had a call from these ignorant gits - the caller told me she was from INTERIM and just kept asking to speak to me - but I wouldn't admit to being me!!  This annoyed her immensely but hey! tough luck.  I think she got more wound up than I did.  I never found out what I supposedly 'owe' and never will because I will always hang up on companies like this.

Never admit who you are on the phone until you know who it is calling and why.  Even then you don't have to admit it.

I get these calls on a daily basis, I do owe money to a catalogue however this catalogue didnt send me any statements nor could I access the online statement page. I have ignored the phone calls until last week when a woman rung me at 6.30pm demanding I pay £41.41 a month. I explained that was impossible as I am a single mother on benefits at the moment and she insisted I could pay I repeated that there was no way that I was going to pay that amount, She got very angry and extremely rude. Then as it was bed time for my children my young son started to cry at which she asked me to go somewhere quiet! you can imagine my reply, needless to say she hung up........
