I was caught up in this scam after racking my brain I thought of sending Space Bags a bill of say £3,500.00 pounds which includes phone calls made to make sure free time don't take £99.00 from my account stress caused time spent lost sleep. I don't know about you but my time is expensive and if Space Bags want to sell my bank details then they must be expecting a bill. Then if you go to a small claims court how can they be found not guilty if the don't show a county court will be made against Space Bags I will give them time to pay if not £60.00 will secure sheriffs to collect what do any one think I need feedback on this please comment

I was also caught out by this scam but fortunately have cancelled my card before they could take the £99. it was my wife who pointed out the payment as i was about to bin the brochure as junk mail. i too made a purchase from space bag. how this scam has been allowed to carry on for so long is a mystery. i will be contacting the advertising complaints (ASA) tomorrow and reporting it to the police also

first off please don't blame me personally I work for the call centre that deals with freetime and may I put a few of you right in your misconceptions.
what actually happens is that freetime is affiliated to spacebags you buy spacebage then 2 weeks later receive a customer service call asking you if you are happy with your purchase and if you would like to receive information on sister company products.
Now freetime is sent out and the letter states you have a 30 day free trial and if you cancel within 30 days NO money is due if not then the yearly membership is due, because freetime is a SPANISH COMPANY it is not covered under uk trading laws therefore can be passed card details and legally take money from the customers who haven't cancelled.
moral of the story always read your mail carefully even junk mail and follow the instructions and WE ALWAYS refund when requested and cancel the details, no I appreciate people can be upset but PLEASE PLEASE DONOT ABUSE THE PERSON ON THE PHONE THEY ARE THERE TO HELP YOU NOT TO BE ABUSED

Looks like i am next. i bought the bags after seeing advertised on a teleshopping channel. Oh how easy to be wise after the event. Received the catalogue, my husband found the scam and all of your comments. Went to the bank today to stop to alert them. i was told that no fraud had been commited until they took my money- then they could act. Only other alternative was to close my account. as joint account needed my husband permission. Told to phone number to show i'd taken reasonable action- bank words not mine. Did phone and tell "Lynne" that there was a watch on my account to look for fraudulent dealings and they had been notified of company name and i wanted to cancel. Amazing how line to cancel was soooo busy. Ooh what a give away! I know how all of you feel. Angry upset but most of all absolutely flummoxed that this scam has been going on since 2010 and nobody but nobody, government or business agencies have been able to close these people down.

I have also worked for this company, Freetime as with all the other names it has been called over the years may be registered in Spain but it is all run from the UK,
    Pressplay Call Centre Ltd,
    Benning Court,
    Pottington Business Park,
    Barnstaple, Devon,
    EX31 1QN.
The directors are British, Phillip Mason and Joanne Moores were resident in Manchester but often visit the Barnstaple call centre.
The Spanish address given out to callers is just a mailing house used by several companies.

All employees know this is a scam!

I just received a free trial letter and brochure out of the blue from Free Time and almost threw it away as junk.  Then noticed the bit about the £99.99 payment and was horrified. Then noticed that they said there had been a phone call which I certainly had not received. I phoned the number in the letter and said I hadn't ordered the membership and didn't want it.  I asked how they had got my details.  The operator, Dale, who told me he was on reception, said he didn't know and that all agents were busy but that he would pass on my name and telephone number to an agent to cancel the membership.  I mentioned it was a bit strange that the letter seemed to have come from Spain and he said that he didn't know how that could be as the office is in London.  I asked for the London address and he said that they weren't allowed to give it out to anyone but he would give my number to an agent to cancel the membership and he was sorry for the trouble.

I was getting suspicious by then so checked out the phone number on the internet and found lots of people who had purchased Spacebags had received the Free Time stuff.  Well as I had also bought spacebags fairly recently it seemed that I had been caught by these scammers too!!!

As the answer seemed to be to cancel my card, I phoned my bank, LLoyds, who said it was not the best option as - wait for this now - even if you cancel a card, the scammers can look on a database for your bank details and still get payment!!!!!!  My bank have said the best way is to monitor the account and if payment is taken by Free Time to report this to them and they will try to get the money back.  Not the most reassuring information I have ever received.

I've asked Lloyds to share the information about Space bags with customers to alert them to this scam, don't know if they will.  Can I ask everyone who has had this experience to post a warning onto social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter etc to spread the warning.  The more people that are informed the better.

Having always been very careful about protecting my information online I am astonished to have had this experience.  Was there a box that I didn't 'untick' or an option that I didn't cancel when putting in the order?  Is there something in the terms and conditions small print that gives Space bags permission to  use our card details as they wish?

I am so cross!!!!  The time it has taken so far this morning to deal with this and still not know if the swines will be able to get their grubby hands on my hard earned cash, these people should be brought to account big time!!!

I think Dale was really just on reception, as all operators taking cancellation calls are taught never to tell the punter that the company is in the UK.
If he has passed the details on to cancel then you should be ok, but be aware details are still held on there database and in a few months or maybe even a year they may try again.
Hassle I know but may be a good idea to insist on a new card as even if you used a debit card a change of card number should prevent them debiting your account again after sometime has passed.
You can call the Devon call centre direct on Freephone number 0800 051 2121.

    Good evening.

My wife has just, we believe, been subject to the Free Time scam.(her accounts are under her maiden name)

Whilst she spoke to a girl "in Spain" who has agreed to cancel the "direct debit", we have decided not to cancel bank accounts, but instead wait and see if money is removed from an account. If that does happen then I will go after your ex, his woman and any other business interests they may be involved with,

I am a regional security manager with a major multinational company with responsibility for half of the planet. My function means that I have extensive contacts within law enforcement across Europe including Interpol and Europol. I also work with HMRC / customs and excise.

If you would like to be in a position to assist if required please let me know

Interesting you and Anon claim these calls are no longer made from Barnstaple. My information is they still are, so I would like you to tell us where these calls are now supposedly made from!
Also it is a small Call Centre and my information is there's no recall of a Penny working there.(Though this may not be your real name)

Come on ‘Penny’ that’s psychology 101 if you can’t win the debate try making your opponent feel small so they give up.
May only work if your opponent is unsure of the facts, however as from 3 weeks ago calls were still being made from
    Pressplay Call Centre Ltd,
    Benning Court,
    Pottington Business Park,
    Barnstaple, Devon,
    EX31 1QN.
to scam customers of Spacebags (and other companies that use the Call Centre) out of £99.
As for this being a hobby 5 mins of my time to try and help people scammed by your employer I do not class as a hobby

Just like to update you all on the Free Time/Spacebags Scam that has been going on for the past few years, I was having no luck with anyone I reported this to including my bank NATIONWIDE who washed there hands of it and told me to go to Citizens Advice Bureau. So What I did was harrass Free Time with e.mails which did not get me anywhere at all so I decide to harrass Spacebags who sold my details to the company in the first place, So I did just that and every time I sent an e.mail to Spacebags I recieved a response from Free Time which has now led to them refunding my £99.99p by a chargeback system as I cancelled my card. So basically if you want your money back ASAP you have to harass Spacebags  on supportuk@spacebag.com and at the end of your e.mail put that( you will be hearing from me again within a few days). Good Luck everyone and don't give in if you want your money back because that's exactly what these SCUM BAGS are counting on.
