Glad to find out this wasn't a bill collector! thanks everyone!

I think they got our numbers from our computer information, meaning someone hacked into our computers and stole information such as whether or not you have credit cards and other personal information. The reason I believe this is my computer got a virus and right after that is when I started receiving these phone calls.

They called my cell while I was in class.  Looked up the area code.  I just know they're based out of Washington, DC.

I just activated my new cell phone today, and this was the very first call I received. I have not given this new number to anyone. I can't even remember it yet off the top of my head! This is either a random call, or my cell service provider sold the number to this company. Neither of these ideas is very appealing. In my home state of AZ, it is illegal to make automated cold calls to solicit business. This company is out of state, and would be difficult to pursue. I really hope I don't discover my brand new cell service company is selling my number. I am looking into this.

got a call on my cell phone to lower credit card interest rates.  i asked them what company they were calling from and he said 'this is card services' and when i asked again what company it was, he hung up.

forgot to mention--- i don't even own a credit card so they obviously had no information on me!  at first i thought someone stole my identity and created a credit card.  but now i know better!  thanks for the helpful information!

Just got this call today - 01.29.09 at 10:48 Eastern Time. Didn't answer and am glad that I found this web page. What a bunch of morons, but I guess people will do anything in this economy to gererate some business.

These people just called my direct line at work.  When I answered they hung up

Unwanted solicitors using my cell number!!  I do not like that, and wish I could find a way to stop it!

Got a call from 202-397-9197 and the hung up. When I called it back, Verizon said it was disconnected. Remember a few years ago the phone companies were making false calls to their OWN customers to run up their bills.

Who is this and why do they keep calling my work phone?

They are phishing for credit card or ssn info so they can commit identity theft. Contact your friendly neighborhood phone phreak & have them handle the situation.

The only way we can stop these scammers is if we all join the National Do Not Call Registry. Then when we are called; file a complain at www.donotcall.gov If we all file complaints legal action will be taken against them. Lets all pitch in to take them down!

Got a call to lower the interest rate on my credit card.  They told me to press 1 and when I did it rang about 10 times and disconnected.  When I've tried to call back, all I get is a busy signal.

My cell phone had a message that I had missed a call from this number. I did not call it back.

I had a "missed call" from this number on Saturday, January 31, 2009, so I guess they are still in business.  I didn't call back to confirm that's it's the same outfit

Just got a call on my cell phone from them.  Filed an online complaint with the FCC. http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

I've received calls from these same people before and have reported it to the Better Business Bureau and the National Do Not Call List.  They've done NOTHING about it (obviously). Neither of them even acknowledged the complaint. I just received another call from these people...this time I just hung up and saved myself the stress of it all.  If the only people that have the ability to stop them are not doing it then why bother even saying anything to those useless organizations.  Just hang up and save yourself the time and stress.
