Got a call from "Seattle" -- probably routed through an exchange there, but originating in South Asia (from the accent). Asked for me by name. Said he was responding to Microsoft service call. I had a virus-infected Windows computer, he said, that was sending out viruses and needed immediate attention.

"What's the IP address of this infected computer?" I asked. He didn't know what an IP address is.

In addition, I'm an IT professional who runs only Linux and Mac OS X.

So, yes, this is an obvious scam. Just hang up on the caller. Or feel free to mock the amateurish premise. Up to you.

A man with a thick indian accent called my phone from this same numbert his evening. He claimed to be working for microsoft, told me I had a "lethal virus" and that I had to "give him access to my computer right away".

Of course we ended the call, but he proceeded to blow up my phone.

Be careful everyone.

This phone number was on my caller ID, but I didn't answer it

Then I  got an Out of Area call, it was a woman telling my computer was sending out an error message because of all the back ground noise I couldn't understand her. A few minutes later a man called, I told him if he would give me his phone number I would have my son call him, because the computer was not mine. He gave me the phone number 415-800-3980

Have this number stop calling me. please

Just got one of their calls calling about clearing up old debt. Told them I had taken care of my debt in court and they abruptly hung up. They were trying to scam me.

Been getting the same calls for week, and have had foul language used several times I wish it would stop how can I get to some to some that can help.... Does Microsoft know about this ?

They are persistent...lol. He did not like it when i approached him about it being a scam. lol

From 206-456-0661, about 6:12 pm on 3 May 2012 and called id unavailable. After a few moments of silence, someone, maybe a woman, with a thick, thick, thick accent, says I need to transfer $800 from my bank  account to her or his bank account. I tried to turn the conversation around, saying he or she owed me money. Then he or she says, "If you don't transfer the money, we'll kill you," repeating "kill" two or three times. I went off the deep end and the caller hung up. Going to kill me! Can you believe it. I called the number, but no one answered.

This number calls about 5 times a day. I have never answered it until today. After saying hello about 5 times the caller asked me what time it currently was and when I answered they hung up. I'm getting really tired of this!

got a call from these [***] claiming to want to help fix my computer....not today m@!#%$ i told them.....i will report you....havent gotten call back yet

Caller ID reports 206-456-0661.   Female with heavy Mid-Eastern accent claims my computer was sending out error messages and they want to fix it for me. When I asked which Operating System, she said Windows and when I asked which version, I heard her say something to a male (I assume supervisor), who yelled at her to hangup, which she tried to do. But I kept the line open (it was a landline call) and heard them talking. Yes,  IT IS A SCAM!!!

Do not allow anyone to call and access information on your computer!

I received this caller yesterday around 3:00 PM.  The are calling people in Ontario, now.  They claimed to be a Microsoft call Centre, and were responding to error messages being sent by my computer.

I asked why my computer (which has a linux operating system) would be sending messages to a competitor.  They immediately switched me to a "senior tech" to explain why.

I challenged them to prove that a virus can be created on the most secure operating system.  Linux requires the only root users be allowed to alter core applications, and most linux users have enough sense to not use their computers as root users.

I even accused him of being a hacker who required my assistance to hack my own computer.  He said that if he was a hacker he'd simply hack into my computer and he failed to see why I was arguing with him.  I said that I was tired of F*kcing around with him and hung up on him.

I got two disturbing calls from this number within ours of each other. The first one came up as an unknown number he was persistant with and idian accent that i get in front of my computer immediately cause my computer had been compromised and my personal information was being used illegally. He then proceeded to sprout out all of my personal information including my bank account number adress and ss # i asked for a number to contact them back because i was not at home and he would not give it to me and proceeded to call me very bad names and hung up clearly because i was on to his scam. however several hours later i got a call again different person and this time the number came up on my caller ID  when i asked for a number he kept giving me a web site what am i stupid i know as soon as i go on the site they will have immediate access to whatever computer im on so do not go onto any websites that they give you. I contacted microsoft corporate security and reported it to them and apparently this is a huge scam for hackers to get into your computer. so be aware and do not do not do not give them any information and do not go to the web site and make sure that all your security on your computer is up to date microsoft does not make phone calls like this and they are actively investigating but it is difficult to catch them because they are calling from over seas and the numbers are coming up all over the us so be ware

I asked for a phone number and all the kept giving me was a web site what was more disturbing was that they had all my personal information including my ss# and my bank account number and then he called me a stupid bloody bi@#$ and hung up i was mortified and they still continue to call me from time to time what idiots my worry is that there are probably alot of people out there that fall for this and get really screwed

I received a call from someone with a Pakistani accent.  He tried to get me to press ctrl + L + Windows and I wouldn't.  He said my computer was sending personal information out and he wanted to assist me for free.  I refused and he cursed me out.  I tried to call the number back and I get a constant busy signal.  I've reported the incident to the authorities.

Got the call from 206 456 0661 at 1146 hours EDT. Woman on the line heavy accent, poor english, could not understand her. Asked her not to call back and terminated the call.

I love playing with these Windows Tech Support guys.  

Them: Your windows computer is infected....
Me: oh ok what do I do....  
Them: First click your start button.  
Me: I don't have one.
Them: you don't have a start button on your bottom bar...
Me: I don't have a bar at the bottom of my screen.
Them: do you have a start button anywhere else.
Me: No.
...

I basically string them along till they realize I'm not running windows but Fedora Linux.   Really confuses them when I say things like cmd or regedit doesn't exists.

Another time I let them run me through the steps on a virtual machine I was about to toast anyways.   They were trying to tell me the Apple Inc. programs was a virus that needed removing.  (because it failed due to no network connection)

These guys are losers who usually don't know much about computers.   If you have the time... play with them.

I knew they were scammers right away so I decided to have some fun with them since I had some time on my hands. First, I kept putting them on hold and asked them every 5 minutes if they're still there and asking them to keep holding. I then started talking to them and getting them really frustraded. One of them told me he wanted to @#$% my wife and then put his 'manager' on who, after 10 minutes of conversation told me I was an idiot. I eventually told him I knew it was a scam and gave him some choice words and I hung up.
