I am new to ebay and placed an item and received the same email back as everyone has indicated.
Since the email appeared illiterate, I decided to look up the number and found it to be a scam.
this email was from:

when I replied telling him that I knew it was a scam this email showed as the sent to address..eldridge.ben@gmail.com

I gave this guy my info adress and phone number before I did my research. Obviously I know I messed up but does anyone have any tips for how to protect my self from this guy

Since I buy and sell some car stuff to finance my racing I get a lot of these. I usually send them phony(funny) names and when I receive their check (over the amount/send them the difference Western Union)I torture them by telling them it has been cashed and I am keeping all. I have collected over 200,000.00 in these fake over the amount checks so far. I have been offered a job (5K month)by a few of them to be a middle man and pick up at western union. Screw all the Nigerian crooks and their middle men ! I think the law should crack down on the middle men since they can't do anything to the Nigerians.

Same crap from Robert Leo a/k/a eldridge.ben@gmail.com... for my craigslist posting.  I sent him the info, but didn't really think it was legit, so I then checked the net... figures, I should have went with my gut!! Ugh!  I think gmail needs to cancel all the e-mail accounts that this guy/girl is using!!!

I also sent him my info like a fool only only looked up the number after I sent the email.  It sounded like a scam to me, but I didn't know a cashier check could bounce.

As I understand it he doesn't want your stuff or to rob you.  I don't think he is even in your area.  He just gets you by sending you a check for over the asking price and gets you when you send him back the difference.  The check bounces later and you are out the money you sent him  plus bank fees.

Keep posting his emails and phone numbers so other can google the truth.

Yep--a Craigslist scam. This number was given to me by someone responding to an ad I placed selling furniture, with the exaxt same message that Chris posted:

Same scam sent email from Larry Moore omolayo12@gmail.com when I replied it went to katty.weatherly01@gmail.com.  Same email.  Seemed fishy so I googled the phone number.  Needless to say I won't be replying....

Wants to buy something from me, and will send certified check.  He emailed me, but gave this number to call.  (210) 209-8524

sounded suspicious so I am glad I googled the number!

They are still operating!  Got the same email response to craigslist in the Dallas area.  Thought it sounded fishy, so I googled the number and got this scam alert site.  Thanks for that info. Their email to me (jedwin003@gmail.com) was this exact wording:

It smelled like a scam, his email reply address is not good, be very careful of this individual.
