- VictoriaWow I have an unlisted number, and ever since I gave birth to my child, I have been having all sorts of unavailable or unknown calls calling my house asking for me, I hang up I dont have time to deal with them, now this healthstream one is calling. The hospital must give our number out, I dont think this is right!
- CJThis is from a survey company that is doing this in conjunction with a visit or stay that you may have had. The only reason I know this is because my son went to the ER last week, and while we were waiting, i noticed they had a paper posted on the wall saying that a 'random' sample of patients would be contacted and asked for a survey of their stay. It went on to say that it would not deal with the specifics of your injury/disease/malady, but the quality of service and care that you had received. While I do not work for or in the healthcare industry, i can understand why they are calling. As far as the do not call listings, as long as you have done business with them - i.e. being a patient, they do have a right to call you.
- JayhawkReceived a call from this number today, they didn't leave a message
- DOCThese people are pond scum trying to get doctors to lower fees only to take a commission out of the savings and they say they try to save patients money. Most health insurance companies contract with negotiators that attempt to have docs lower fees to save patients money but that never works. DO NOT TALK TO THEM OR GIVE THEM ANY INFO!! HIPPA IS BEING VIOLATED BY THE INS COMPANY GIVING YOUR INFO OUT TO THESE PEOPLE!

- QueenieIt's a stinkin survey company
The hospital I was in gave them my number.
They've called me multiple times per day for weeks now.
I actually talked to them one time and told them to put in the comments section of the survey how pissed i was that the hospital had given out my phone number.
So much for HIPAA protecting my privacy. What at joke that whole thing is.
I set it up in my phone to have a different ringtone so I know not to answer it. - AndyI am a former employee of HealthStream and I need to set the record straight on what they do. They are a healthcare market research and consulting firm. They are hired by hospitals to conduct patient, physician, employee and consumer research. The purpsoe of the research is to help hospitals achieve success and identify where they need to improve.
But, here is the most important part for all of you to understand. Hospitals are now required BY LAW to conduct patient surveys for the purposes of Medicare reimbursement. The goal is to improve healthcare by holding hospitals accountable to certain standards. Here are the websites you need to know about:

http://www.cms.hhs.gov/HospitalQualityInits/11_HospitalCompare.asp
http://www.hcahpsonline.org/ - AndyThe intent of the HCAHPS initiative is to provide a standardized survey instrument and data collection methodology for measuring patients' perspectives on hospital care. While many hospitals currently collect information on patients' satisfaction with care, there is no national standard for collecting or publicly reporting this information that would enable valid comparisons to be made across all hospitals. In order to make "apples to apples" comparisons to support consumer choice, it is necessary to introduce a standard measurement approach. HCAHPS can be viewed as a core set of questions that can be combined with a broader, customized set of hospital-specific items. HCAHPS is meant to complement the data hospitals currently collect to support improvements in internal customer services and quality related activities.
Three broad goals have shaped the HCAHPS survey. First, the survey is designed to produce comparable data on the patient's perspective on care that allows objective and meaningful comparisons between hospitals on domains that are important to consumers. Second, public reporting of the survey results is designed to create incentives for hospitals to improve their quality of care. Third, public reporting will serve to enhance public accountability in health care by increasing the transparency of the quality of hospital care provided in return for the public investment. With these goals in mind, the HCAHPS project has taken substantial steps to assure that the survey will be credible, useful, and practical. This methodology and the information it generates will be made available to the public.
In May 2005, the National Quality Forum (NQF), an organization established to standardize health care quality measurement and reporting, formally endorsed the CAHPS Hospital Survey. The NQF endorsement represents the consensus of many health care providers, consumer groups, professional associations, purchasers, federal agencies, and research and quality organizations. - AndySo, in conclusion please do these survey's. It will help to improve healthcare delivery in America and might save a loved ones life!
