This is a scam using Craiglist to fool people. The reason they want you to give them a code is so the fraud is traced back to you rather  than back to them.

This is actually a generic verification service. it's used by craigslist, by google in some cases, and it's also used by GoDaddy's hosting service when you try to enable SSH on your hosting account. It may be used by other services as well.

Definitely a suspicious number!  I received three phone calls. The first call was from Unknown Name and Unknown number  to say they were calling on behalf of donotcall.gov.  The caller said the second call  a couple minutes later will provide a 5 digit code number and then there will be a third call to confirm the code number.  The second call showed the number 310-928-7055 and name "Concerto Network".  I got suspicious after the second number  but answered the third call and insisted they call me from a number that I will be able see on caller ID.  The caller hung up.

The problem is not with the phone number 3109287055.  The problem is with the caller(s) who calls you BEFORE and AFTER the call your receive from 3109287055.  The caller is trying to set up an account and wants to use your phone number as a verified number for his/her/their account.  DO NOT GIVE the pin number when you receive the third call.

My wife received an anonymous call from 052569594 (some one from net2phone type service) and claimed that he is calling from US government and mentioned that we will receive a call with a passcode and he kept calling contineously requesting this password.

How can he misuse this information, where should we report this problem.

I just got the same call from a person with an indian accent and asking me to call a 1877 number to block all my unwanted calls. I told him it sounds like a scam and he gave me the crtc website and even his employee number to verify that he was telling the truth..it's all bogus.

Just now a bloke called with a thick accent guess pakistani accent. He said his name was peter jones. that fake said since your number is in the do not call registry, i have to add it to that registry. this was fishy since when i added the number to the do not call registry online it confirmed that mine got added. but this scamster said he will hang up, i would get a call with a passcode and he would call back and get the passcode. I hanged up and a call came, from craigslist saying here is the passcode. This scamster called up and i shouted at him, told i will call the police. he was saying do not call registry uses the craigslist system. this fake was not even afraid when i said i am calling police. Couple of reasons: 1) This guy is calling from outside the country 2) His account sounds distiinctively pakistani
    3) they want to do some criminal activity stealing my craigslist account. 4) they are not afraid of law, that makes it more scary even when they are confronted. Something has to be done by the Govt to save the citizens from these thugs. Ideas

I was at facebook. A page comes up saying there has been suspicious activity and I'm blocked from getting back in unless I give a cell or land line number so they can call and give me a pin #.

Gave my land line. Got the pin and entered it at the FB page that was blocking me and got back in to my wall.
