This site : http://www.canadiens-habs.com/ fakes to have a contest for free canadian hockey tickets. I did not notice at first. Then they asked for my email adress and phone number. They called me with this number 310-928-7055 and gave me a verification number that I entered. After, I noticed the hockey site was a fake one. I don't know what they are doing with the infos, but it is definately a trick to collect personal information. I will be aware of future calls and not give any infos on the phone. I will also change passwords for my email adress.

I received a call from this number just minutes after I filled out a so called application from a job response on craigslist.  I entered my phone number on the "application" and when I clicked next it said it was verifying my number it seemed like it was taking too long so I figured something was wrong and tried to back out, but I think it was too late.  About 5 minutes later I received a call from the 320 number it was saying something about craigslist verification of a post and left a code.  Immediately I was worried (what did I just do).  Someone must be posting something using my number or trying some type of identity theft.  What should I do?!!!!

I work at a grocery store and although I do not have access to caller ID, I am positive this number called. The guy, Kevin, was alerting me that the Health Dept was going to come tomorrow (makes no sense as the health dept is a surprise) and he needed a code to confirm our call. The code would come in after we hung up. As I hung up, sure enough another call came through with the code and I heard craigslist verification. As Kevin called again, I asked him HOW could craigslist and the state health dept be in any way, shape, or form be affiliated. I guess Kevin didn't like my question as he got defensive and aggressively wanted the code. I asked for his contact information before I'd give him anything. He didn't like that either and yelled an F bomb and hungup. Kevin had the nerve to call again and ask why I hung up. Told him off and ended this nonsense. I'm not sure exactly what type of scam this is, but definitely seems like a scam.

obviously none of you have tried to open a google account recently. I have been using google for a while and recently wanted to open a second account. apparently they are a lot more thorough with their application process than they use to be. it no longer click and your in, now you need to provide a phone number that they can call or text in order to provide an activation code.

some one obviously didn't want to give out their own number so they gave out yours and tried to con you into giving them the activation code.

hence the call from (310) 928-7055 was google.

I just got a call giving me a 5 digit code.  I have never posted on Craigslist, and I am worried my accounts have been hacked.  What should I do?  How do I report this?

That call was calling you with an activation code because you were signing up for something on the Internet. If it wasn't you, then it was someone who typed in your number by mistake. How do I know this? For I got this same call from this same number giving me my access code needed to sign up for something on the Internet...

It is from Google "new" account. And perhaps other companies use it as well for verification, I opened up a new account on Google, and it asked me if I wanted a text verification code sent to me or a phone verification sent. I choose phone. As soon as I entered my phone number, my phone rang with an automatic message with my verification code. If you got a phone call from this number and wasn't trying to set up an Internet account, chance are someone typed in your number by error, or, someone is trying to open up a new account using your phone number, not knowing how it really works.

Just got a call from 310 928 7055 and the guy, Indian accented Tom, said he was from the Federal Trade Commission and he was going to help me reduce the telemarketer calls we get. He said I would get an automated call after he put the phone down giving me a 5-digit code and I should write it down then give him the code. Sure enough got the second call and then he rang back and asked for the code. The automated message with the code also said: If you are not setting up a Craigs List account please disregard this message. Huh, really? So when the guy called back I asked him why it said this and he told me it was because that was his server. Even gave a FTC customer service number to call and verify he was from there 888 720 5100 (did not come up in Google search). I told him I didn't believe a word he was saying and I would go online to verify his information and found a couple of sites reporting problems. Don't know what they are getting out of this but did not give him the code.

    READ IT CAREFULLY!!!!
Craigslist is a website that allows people to post classified ads for goods or services that they want to buy or sell. Due to a large number of spam ads being posted on the website the company implemented an account verification system for service ads. Craigslist also restricted each account to posting only 3 ads every 48 hours.

To have an active Craigslist account you need an email account, a IP address, and a phone number that has been call back verified. If these three do not match Craigslist will not allow you to create an account.

For spammers the first two are easy to create. They can create Gmail or Hotmail accounts, and by routing through different internet servers have unique IPs associated with each email account. What they have difficulty doing is by passing the phone number call back verification.

When creating a Craigslist account an automated system will call you back to the phone number that you provided. The automated system will says "This is Craigslist calling your pin number is 12345." You have to enter this pin number to activate the Craigslist account online.

Spammers don't want their phone number linked to the spam Craigslist account. Also posting hundreds of spam ads on Craigslist will require hundreds of phone numbers.

Yeah, I sent a resume into to a job site on craigslist... 3 days later I get an reply to my GMAIL account. It asks me to verify through the company webiste:
    http://dmkmanagement.com/application/
The email states tha I must complete this verification process in 2 days or else I will not be eligible. In completing this form it asks for my phone number, I enter in my cell and click send... hourglass... my cell rings and a voice recording gives me a 5 digit code XXXXX, I enter it in the website and it redirects me to a blank page. "This is not good." I says to myself... So, I click the "show details" link by the senders name, Titus Marone by the way... <fyfysybaturoz52@hotmail.com> is and just like that I knew I had been F*cked... Proper. Now... where do I go from here?
