This number called my phone when setting up an Amazon.com seller account.  You have to get the verification code and then type it back into the website to proceed.

This is the automated number that gives a "verification" code
when you register to post certain listings on Craigslist. You
input your phone number into your account registration, they
call your phone number and then you enter the verification
number. (To check and see that your phone number is valid)

Who is that

I received the calls frequently on 15th Nov and the person mentioned that it is from US govt to secure e phone number and stop the ad calls.. I expalined them and i do not receive any ad call and do not need any further protection... Even then that person sent the authorization code and tried to call me and get that autorization code.

I am very much sure its some kind of scam,... as when i explained him that i do not need this service and not to call me back.. he ept on calling my number ... Why someone trying to protect the number will be so much desperate..

I just got a call from this number as well.  I have no idea what's up, but it really bothers me.

I got the same call.  I was going to post a job on CL-as a nurse-didn't
post it because of all the wacko's on that site.
These calls get irritating.  I'm suspicious of most sites, even this one,
but it's probably  safe.

I got a call from this number , prior to this I got a call from 919-674-0114 and they said I will get a call and a 5 digit activation code will be left in your voice mail, and within 5 minutes I will call you back and you please provide the activation number, so that no unsolicited calls will be made to you in future. They said the US Govt's DNC has chosen craig's list to provide this service and I will not be charged a penny for this service

This person said, he needs to register my number for the do not call plan. He mentioned there will be a four digit code that would be given by an automated voice mail and I have to enter the code in my phone

Someone called claiming to be from the DNC registry.  They said they would prevent further telemarketing calls, and said I would receive a code, which they would then type in to their system.  I then received a phone call from this number. Doesnt look like identity theft. Is it ?

This call comes from Google adsense phone  verification process. If you get it and you did not initiate it then somene used your phone number,.

yes i got this call about 9:30 it gave me a verification, then someone somehow got my code..does anyone know how to calcel this or what to do...

was on a personals site and then got this "chics" yahoo profile id: sxxybbgrl. when we got online together she immediately asks me for my phone # and says she cant text that well.  i give it to her and get a call from this number with an access code that says do not give out the code to anyone at the end of the message. i didnt. dont know what the hell is going on. she said to give her the code so she can call me for free? whatever.

Same call at 12:05 AM. 3 times, did not answer.

that's funny "dude".  I was also on a personals site and exchanged one message with sxxyy_grl (Yahoo ID).  The exact same thing happened.  I didn't enter anything in the phone, but rather entered the code back in the IM.  she said to hold on and I searched and found this webpage within 5 minutes.

Yea...that sxxyy_grl got me too...so far all I've been able to find is people from craigs list call you about ads on craigslist...which I don't use...so I don't know the full extent of what they're capable of doing...but I've read taht verification number is needed to verify certain ads on craigslist to make sure the number is legit.

Fell for the same trick like a shmuck earlier today  from Yahoo ID sxyygirll.  I'll call AT&T to let
them know...

It is Craiglist. They call you with an activation code if you sign up for a Craigslist account.

Called once, I didn't answer. Called again right after.
