              I come across your house for rent advertised on the
internet and i am interested in renting it,please let me know if it is
still available.I will be signing one year lease for this unit and
will be staying with my wife and daughter,and will be willing to offer
you 2 months rent plus the security deposit in order to secure this
unit prior to our arrival.Could you be kind enough to let me know what
the electricity/utility cost would be?as i will really need to have
this unit to myself.

You can send me the lease application,to enable be review it ahead of
time. i would eventually have it signed physically when i arrive in
person.

This is a scam...the guy has morphed into Prof. Matthew Mereno from University of Milan.  Same letter replying to a property rental on Craig's list.

Hi...I received an e-mail from Prof Matthew Moreno and was completely duped I feel like suck a jerk.  What do these people have to gain by doing this evil thing to honest people that want to rent a unit?

same thing with us and exact letter, but Dr. Daniel Thomas this time, for our house  in KY, we rec'd $9,000.  so what happens when you cash the check we are wondering?  are they real checks?

are they real, what happened with you? did you get as far as getting a check, when I googled the
company name of the furniture co. nothing came up, just finally found these remarks, please respond
with any info you have on this scam and how it turns out?

Yes, I have been received many e-mails like this too.

I am in Canton, Ohio and this happened to me this past week. He said the other funds needed to be sent for furniture. I thought something was odd.

I turned down many potential renters because of this loser.  I knew something was weird when I started asking him about move-in date specifics, the school his daughter would be attending, etc...Here's the email he sent me...

I got this one today from "Dr. Marvin Slotte". A duplicate of one I received three days ago from the e-mail address: 2ndmakeitreal@gmail.com on behalf of marvin slotte <realjohnwinter@gmail.com> in response to a rental ad on Craigs List. I deleted it immediately (clearly a scam).

It again came today, from an entirely different e-mail address. Here is the entire body of the e-mail from today:
