    annoyed
same deal, just got a call at 9:46am wednesday august 11.  no one on the other end then went dead in a couple seconds.  actually, i called that same number back. what is happening is, someone somehow is spoofing that number to do annoyance calls to random people.  they manipulate what is called the "ani" number that displays on your caller id.  it stands for Automatic Number Identification.  this 586 number appears instead of the real calling number. i spoke with a nice person at the 586 number and they told me the police have already been contacted about this.  i wished them well in tracking down whomever is doing this. they too, are very frustrated with this and would like it to stop. it is a legitimate business and it can hurt them if the nutjob doing this continues.

in the meantime, if you see this number again, just hang up.

    hope this helps.

These people called me this morning and there was dead silence. I called the 800 number and spoke to someone that described themselves as a non-profit company called American Professional Services Association. She said that a computer dials the numbers randomly and that is why you receive silence or hang-up.  I asked her to remove my number and told her that we are also on the Do Not Call List, but sadly the DNCL does not apply to them because they are non-profit.

If you look at the website, it does seem like a scam for unsuspecting seniors that buy a memebership for discounted products and get virtually nothing in return. Seems like their should be a watchdog group keeping an eye on companies like this one.
If I continue to receive calls, I will call Attny General Mike Cox and file a complaint with the state of Michigan.

This is a non-profit, so they can skirt the do-not-call law. Non-profit just means they have to turn any cash into employee bonuses at the end of the year, not that they're an ethical company. They represent local agents who sell commissioned financial and insurance products; all of them are very poor, overpriced products.

Call them back at 800 898 8282 and tell them to stop calling you.  No promises -- they keep calling me (and others) back anyway.

Company is America's Professional Services Association and their website is www.apsatoday.org
Website has lots of photos of happy seniors. None of them are clients.

If you do get to answer before their automated calling machine hangs up, they'll try to make an appointment to have a salesman visit your home to "drop off a binder full of discounts." Asking questions is futile, they just keep re-reading a script. Just say 'no' or you'll pay large amounts of money for inferior services (legal, insurance, financial, health, etc.).

It's nearly impossible to turn down a high-pressure salesman who's already in your home.  You should always make a voice recording of everything said in your home, even if the salesman doesn't know he's being recorded -- it's completely legal as long as you don't leave the room and leave the recorder behind (you can record anything you can hear, except over the phone). They'll make you feel like you'd have to be a moron for not "taking advantage of this special offer" so you'll always say 'yes.'

If you've already been conned and less than 72 hours has passed, cancel everything immediately. If they're legitimate, you can always start over and sign a new contract later, after you've passed it around for others to inspect and done some research and comparisons.  If they give you any problems, tell them you'll need their professional state-issued license number for the paperwork, and that the next message they get will be from your attorney. Since people are quite defenseless in their home, the law gives you 3 days to revoke any contract signed there. If they threaten you in any way, tell them that now you'll have to file a police report.

I was called before I even got out of bed.  Said they were from the professional association of something.  I should have been on my guard as usual and said who, from where, or just hang, up but they said they were going door to door to homeowners on my street between the ages of 40-60.  Good luck as everyone on my street is between 30-50.  Called back but the line doesn't ring.  I will make sure someone is home at 4pm in case these jokers try to rob me!

They are the marketing arm of a for profit firm called Financial Services of American (FSA).  FSA is a strong sales pitch organization that sells Equity Indexed Annuities (EIA).  They will try to convince you that you should sell all of your investments, mutual funds, CD's, etc, and buy an EIA through them so they can receive a 7-15% commision.  Anytime a "Financial Advisor" is trying to SELL you a product you need to ask several important questions.  What is that advisor getting paid.  Is this purchase in my best interest, or in the "advisors" best interest?  Deal only with Registered Investment Advisors and not financial product "sales professionals" like this organization.  FSA and EIA have had numerous complaints against them.
